I love the creative use of foil tape. But you've made a simple job complex, and much less resilient. Why less resilient? What you're doing is a repair using polystyrene and epoxy. Both are much more brittle than the PP (polypropylene) bumper, so any impact there is far more likely to cause a failure. Why not just fill the crack with some melted PP? (Usually the bumper will even have spare tabs somewhere ;) ) Much easier and guaranteed compatible.

Thank you for your enthusiastic contribution, I will try it with molten pp plastic. I'm actually testing a lot of different materials, after a long time seeing which material is the most suitable.

The mesh melted into the plastic was a great idea. After that, I'll just use Bondo. Especially since it's just a 2 part plastic resin with easy mixing steps.

Professional plastic welders (bike fairings, bumpers etc) know that they have to use the SAME material to weld them; so,they have an enormous variety of plastic rods for each job; and they charge a lot for those jobs too..; By law, mostly in Europe,USA, and others, it is mandatory to have stamped on EVERY plastic piece, its material; all you do is to look for the stamped(molded!) 2 or 3 letters; Best way is to cut and use a piece of the same plastic you are welding, from a place that stays hidden.

Also, any 2 part adhesives should be mixed on a separate surface and then applied. The problem with your technique is you have sandwiched un-mixed hardening agent and unmixed resin of whatever glue you used under the hardened glue. This will cause the repair to bubble up over time. Overall you have used a very poor technique with poor materials that is guaranteed to fail.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS FOR LEARNERS, NOT KNOW-IT-ALLS First of all: I commend you on a great job for showing how to repair in a non tradition way. Much love from Harrisburg, pa keep up the great work. I just subscribed.❤❤❤ I've done this plenty of times (over 20 years the only reason I stopped is because I flipped my car and have a t.b.i with multiple broken bones) Held up for years, thousands of miles in all types of weather, on different vehicles motorcycles, trucks and cars even two 4 wheelers. It's good to know how to do it in different ways. Not only that. If the end result is the same with quality a finish then so be it for example: I had a motorcycle with a fist size hole in the fairing, would've totaled the bike out or cost way and I mean way too much to get factory fairings worth matching fairings and paint. However, because I knew how to repair it, not fix it, it was flawless. Even to it back to Kawasaki and like the previous commenters they couldn't believe it is said it wouldn't last. Unbeknownst to them I happened to have a video (GoPro) showing the date I recorded it. Fast forward 4 years and a couple thousand miles later. It was evident the job was great. I even got two customers from the dealer that worked in the repair/collision department.😂😂 Long story short. It's great to know how to do "it" multiple ways with a quality, durable finish. It shows you are not "stuck" in your ways and could be taught a thing or two you'd just be quiet and don't think you know everything. Excessive, maybe. But it shows how to repair a job depending on the size. Thank God for the voice to text option. Because this would have taken me forever. Don't take life for granted. -Lazarusofi83N

Currently I don't have a car repair kit, I'm looking for a useful way to recycle plastic items, thank you for your suggestions.

Round three sides of a square to get from A to B .. plastic filler and mesh would be a wee bit quicker.

That's an absolutely terrible way to repair it. Environmentally catastrophic as well. Thumbed down.

Certes, c'est un joli travail, mais dès le début, vous auriez dû appliquer juste de la résine sur la grille et le tour est joué. Bravo quand même.

I usually just match cut a similar size plastic piece from a donor bumper and two part adhesive to glue the pieces together from the inside then fill in the rest with flex putty made for bumpers and plastics prime and paint.
