this is brilliant, i went with the D tent anvil for my impact because i didn't think that the friction rings even worked. guess the drills i used just needed one of those rings.

Thanks, man! Need to buy an impact wrench tomorrow because my impact driver can only get the 1/2" concrete anchors 1/2 of the way in. But the local stores don't stock the detent pin anvil wrenches. Was worried about the durability of the ring over the long term, but now that you've showed how easy the maintenance is, I can go get the tool with no angst, do the job (new front porch), and my wife will think I'm a superstar. Or at least, she won't think I'm incompetent. Which is still a win.

when hog ring is too expanded and hard to take off sockets just use some channel lock pliers and compress the hog ring into a smaller circle. if you compress too much and hog ring is too loose take a needle point plier and open up the gap in the ring until it latches on to the sockets

I did it with the impact on its back, placed the ring on top, and used a 'follow-through' blow with a steel mallet. Worked great. It's perfect, too; it holds the sockets on and isn't a struggle to remove them.
@LC-go1uh Жыл бұрын
I did it this way, but instead of a mallet, I just hit it with my hand. People have always told me I have fist of iron.

Hog ring pliers cost about $15. (Canadian) and bag of a couple hundred hog rings costs about the same or less. You can buy them at most commercials fishing gear retailers.
@johnnorris1227 Жыл бұрын
Hog rings aren't spring steel so they will deform easy and stay that way and wear out really fast. For under $10 you can buy kits that come with a dozen or so pairs of both metal ring and rubber o ring. Some kits even come with a special tool and pair of pliers for the install. It's one of those things where when it don't work right it can be frustrating so better off just buying the right stuff and be done with it.
@Matty6983 Жыл бұрын
@johnnorris1227 I used my hog ring pliers on the oem ring, a year later and hundreds of times slipping sockets off an on since, I haven't had to re crimp it. Make of that what you will.

nice video, my friend told me a long time ago using chrome sockets on an impact actually damages the anvil... I basically only use chrome sockets on my dewalt impact LOL do you think my friend is wrong and it just needs the o-ring and little metal clip? gravity makes my sockets fall off the gun at this point lol

I’ve never used a regular oring I don’t see why it wouldn’t as long as it’s not to thick and makes the sockets stick you can get friction ring kits from Amazon

TRY BUYING ANOTHER RING. Nobody sells them or even knows what they are!!! I am going to buy a small Tension Spring at a Hardware Store and cannibalize it to make another Friction rings for my Pneumatic Impacts.*Or a DRILL BIT* of the same diameter as the original Fritction or RETAINING Ring. Hopefull the spring steel in a spring is hard enough it will last a while. Drill bit is even better. The OLD RING on my 3/8's drive Impact Gun material Appears to be 5/64ths diameter, checked it with a Drill Index. *I cannot buy ANYTHING from Ingersol Rand to fix one of THEIR Tools, boy do they SUCK* I used to think they were "top of the line' but I have TWO "Husky" brand "Home Depot" junk impact guns that have run forever, but I bought an Ingersol Rand thinking it was a Cadillac brand, but it fell apart and the Husky Brand are still running!!!! What the SHIT is THAT??? I WONDER if Chicago Pneumatic Impact Wrenches are any good?? They have a HUGE PRICE like Ingersol Rand. Man what has happened to AMERICAN MADE TOOLS?? Now the Taiwan shit is BETTER than AMERICAN??? Man, we are going down hill at WARP SPEED.

I get my friction rings from Snapon or Mac. Amazon does sell them.
