U go up by fifths , c no sharps . 5 steps up to g. First sharp f sharp. Another 5 steps d. F sharp and c sharp. Just keep moving up until u get to the flats. B e a d. Then the last 3 flats are the first 3 sharps flipped backwards. Just takes repetition to learn but is very important for musicians to know this. Great lesson Jason!!!

It’s worth mentioning that A Minor for example IS C Major. They’re the same notes. Both scale and chord. Same thing, just starting on a different note. So play a C major scale, then play C major at the position three frets down but start on an A. Now you’re playing A minor. So just like a g# IS an Ab, a C Major IS an A minor. It’s all about perspective. Note that the circle of fifths lines up with your guitar strings…but at all frets. For example, fret your low string at the fifth fret for an A note. Now find your nearest d#. Instead of counting up from somewhere, look at the circle of fifths. Next pie slice from A is D. Next string after a is D. Up one fret for d#.

Cool T shirt!! \m/ Moving from outer circle to inner is called moving to the relative minor. Cmaj to Am makes Am the relative minor. And doing the reverse makes C, Am's relative major. The cool thing is You can play the notes in any relative minor chord over it's relative major counterpart and it will sound awesome.. IE: Play notes from an Am scale over a C maj chord and it's magic . And notes from the C maj scale will work over Am.. Good job Jason! \m/ \m/

@metalmastermind

I don't know that I'd be concerned with making scales into a song because then you run the risk of your song sounding like everything else. Instead, explore different notes and patterns, and create your own by experimenting. Music theory is great and all, but it can also cause you to overthink the process.

Oh man, I'm just noticing. You and I pick almost the exact same. I hold my pick with basically a reverse of others. Angling my pick more towards myself. But just kinda naturally rotate it parallel with the string when doing hard or normal playing and the upturned method when faster picking is needed. Gallops, tremolo, scale runs, etc. Care to make a video on your technique? I used to get discouraged that I didn't pick like others and thought it held me back. Then I watched Chris Poland play and realized it wasn't a limitation but maybe just my style. Don't fight it. Sorry for the random comment.

I would suggest re-watching the video and taking notes. And also pausing the video when you need to. Our generation has chosen to have an extremely short attention span. Set aside an hour or more to go through this, and also read some of the comments to see how it's help others...that may give you some motivation.

@@metalmastermind notes may help. I just didn't understand to be honest. My biggest confusion is being able to identify what note is what. I'm writing songs and I'll write an intro or something and I'm having trouble following them up or transitioning to them next part. Someone recommended I research this video.
