Hi Taylor, regarding the potatoes, maybe if you peeled them, that taste will improve
@LauraLentz-g5mКүн бұрын
Hi Taylor! I always peel Russets because of that earthy taste - they shine as a mashed potato when peeled. Gold and Red seem to work best for crockpot and sheet pan method

I'm with you on the weather, Taylor. Even up here in NW Illinois it's been cool then hot then chilly then warm then hot then cool. Tomorrow is supposed to be 84 and then down to 56 by Halloween. I'm so over it.

Hi Taylor. I enjoyed this video. I always say that I’m going to make Shepherds pie but I never do. It looks really good. I know what you mean about Russet potatoes. I feel the same way. If I buy them I only use them for mashed potatoes. I don’t use them in stews, soups, or pot roast. Thanks for sharing as always. 😊💕

Use Idaho potatoes, they have less water and don't taste like dirt. Peel the potatoes, too. I can never get a potato to cook properly in a slow cooker, ever. I've tried everything I can over 30 years. I always cook potatoes separately for slow cooker recipes. Everything looks tasty! Thanks, Taylor!

Trimming the bone yourself is a really smart and cost-effective idea. Thanks for the tip. I think I might keep the bones and make a broth with them. Fingers cross that it works🤞🏿. I've noticed an "earthy" taste to russets as well. I don't know where it's coming from because it wasn't always like that. Very strange.

Making broth with the bones is a fantastic idea! You'll get homemade bone broth. Very flavorful and nutritious.

I thought the same thing about the bones. Also, any bits of meat left on them could be "pulled" and used for sandwiches or frozen until you have enough for a meal.

I only buy russet potatoes and I have also thought they taste like dirt. It seems to be worse if they come in a plastic bag. The one that are in the mesh bag are not as bad to me. I am glad you said something because I thought it was all in my mind. My husband said he didn’t know what I’m talking about. I saw where some said they peel theirs, I always peel my potatoes.😊

I don’t notice an earthy flavor on russets, but it could be that you’re just used to the milder yellow potatoes. We eat both types fairly regularly 😊

Yes on the russet potatoes. I used to love baked potato skins but I agree they taste dirty now. Also seem to turn green faster.

Hi Taylor and family! It's not your taste buds I think they taste like dirt too,so I started peeling them and rinsing them off let them soak until I'm ready to use them. Thanks for sharing meal plan will be making a few of them. Enjoy your week ahead. 😊😊😊

All your recipes look delicious. I’ve found stews use red potatoes they taste best with skin on. I never use the russet skins it tastes too much like dirt even scrubbed and washed. Great video. ❤

Yellow and red potatoes are definitely better tasting, we only use russet potatoes when we are going to bake them, I agree with the comment that said the potatoes in the mesh bag are better than the ones in plastic!

Looks delicious! Every time you make shepherds or cottage pie I tell myself I need to make the cottage pie (I’ve never eaten lamb) but then I forget until the next time you make it lol. I promise that one of these days I will get it made! I’m still trying to figure out what kind of air fryer to get. There are so many types that I can’t decide. If you have a suggestion please let me know. Hope you all have a great week ❤

I've tried a couple and the one I have currently is my favorite because it's a combo air fryer & toaster oven. It's the cuisine art toa-60 I have it linked in my Amazon store in the description box 😁

Re: potatoes. It's not just you! They definitely taste like dirt sometimes. I've found that if you smell them at the grocery and they have a heavy dirt smell they will also taste like dirt. If they don't smell like dirt, they're okay. I'm sure people at the grocery think I've lost my marbles when they see me pick up a 10lb bag of potatoes and smell it.

Russet potatoes have their moment, baked, twice backed topped with cheese, and french fries in the air fryer. But not in stew and not on a sheet pan. You just used the wrong potato for that sheet pan and that stew!
@venusgal2706Күн бұрын
I rinse my potatoes three times at least. Your knife can pick up dirt so I rinse each after peellng, then again after cutting then one more time the entire cut up bunch of them. I had a potato salad once at a relatives house that was just yuck and I knew she hadn't done that. While I like skin on, if you're having an issue, then I'd peel them and rinse, rinse, rinse. Also the bones in meat add flavor, and no different with pork. I'd never get rid of the bone. They've ruined our meats and flavor of such enough as it is. Same with fat by the way. That's my take on both things anyhow.

Hi Taylor. Your taste buds are fine. Russet potatoes do taste like DIRT. Something’s been up with fruits and veggies lately. Things are molding within 2 days of purchase, bananas aren’t ripening. Iceberg lettuce is brown in the middle. It’s terrible.

The FDA regulations for food safety & sanitation were (ridiculously) cut drastically back in July of 2019. I wonder if all that's finally caught up with our food supply now. 🤔
