Hi June , thank you ever so much for this tutorial ! I've been fretting for a few days now on how to make a stem for my crocheted rose for this sunday, Mothers' Day. I had no floral tape and since I'm bedridden, I usually order it online, but I started out a bit too late, so I didn't get the chance to anymore. Now I've dound an even better alternative, since the yarn I'll be using has the same colour as the sepal and the leaves, whereas a flower tape doesn't. Again, thank you, I'm very pleased with myself for not giving up now 😉

Hi June, excellent tutorial as usual. I have made some flowers in the past, and now I realize how inefficient I've been wrapping the stem lol. You make it seem so simple. Thank you so much for your great ideas! ~Donna

Very helpful! Do you still have the videos to make the crochet flowers on this channel?
@planetjune3 жыл бұрын
I don't make video versions of my entire patterns - watching me crochet for hours is not a practical way to convey the information you need! You can find my patterns for all these flowers at www.planetjune.com/free :)

Great tutorial but I'm a little confused so you just stick the stem in the flower but wouldnt the flower be able to come off the stem easily you don't glue it or something
@planetjune2 жыл бұрын
If the flower is just sitting in a vase it's not going to spontaneously fall off, but you're welcome to glue it in place if it's going to be moved around and you want some extra security :)

Thank you for the tutorial. I made a rose yesterday but I couldn't make the stem properly so the entire work got ruined 😢 the rose were to my liking but not the stem. Thanks for showing this. I have a question. If we wrap the yarn from the top like you showed and not using any glue in the middle parts, is there any chance of the yarn coming off? I'm always scared about that part. Thanks again!❤
@planetjune6 ай бұрын
If the top and bottom are anchored securely and you've wrapped the yarn tightly, the middle shouldn't come loose - none of my stems ever have, but they don't get handled much. If you want to add some glue to the middle of the stem before you wrap the yarn over that section (for your peace of mind), there's no harm in doing that!

What green yarn did you use to wrap them and what green/other color yarn & brands do you recommend for crochet flower sticks?
@planetjune Жыл бұрын
I'd recommend using the same yarn you use to crochet the flowers, so the stems match 😊

Great tips! Thanks for sharing them. You should make ASMR videos. You have a very relaxing voice.

cant u use green florest tape
@planetjune9 ай бұрын
Of course! Wrapping the stem of crocheted flowers with the same yarn you used to crochet the flower (except in green!) helps the stem to match the look of the flower more closely, but floral tape would work too if you just want a green stem and don't want the entire flower to look like it's made from yarn. If that doesn't concern you, you also have lots more options as well as floral tape, for example: paint the wood, buy a green-coloured plant stick, use heavy-gauge green floral wire (or twist multiple strands of lighter gauge wire together) - your local craft store will be full of possibilities!

I have a question my stem keeps unraveling. Do you have any recommendations that will help me?
@planetjune7 ай бұрын
Do you mean it unravels while you're wrapping it, or after you've finished the stem?

What is the stick called
@planetjune5 ай бұрын
You can use any kind of stick from a craft store, dollar store etc that has the diameter you need for your flower stem. Thin dowels are good for sturdier stems, but I also use bamboo skewers (the ones sold for grilling food!)

Ma'am what is the size of the heavy wire you use?
@planetjune11 ай бұрын
I use floral wire or armature wire, depending on how thick and sturdy the wire needs to be. I'm not sure of the sizes, I just have a selection and I pick whichever seems like the best option for each project!

Bamboo skewers size
@planetjune11 ай бұрын
It's completely up to you - I choose a size that works for the size of flower I'm making, bearing in mind that a large or heavy flower will need a thicker skewer to support it. (And the length doesn't matter either - you can cut off any excess length if it's longer than the stem length you need.)
@lanie64657 ай бұрын
I wish you had actually shown with the wire. A stiff stick is easy!
@planetjune7 ай бұрын
If you're having problems, maybe you're choosing a wire that's too thin and flexible - choose a stiff floral wire that you buy in straight lengths from the floral section of a craft store, not thin wire (e.g. beading wire) that comes on a spool. The wrapping method is exactly the same with the wire though.

@@planetjune Yeah, I have the best wire for the job. I found another tutorial which helped and I managed to get the job done. Thanks anyway!
