Your videos are sooooo informative, and the style and type of balsa planes you do are right up my alley. I've learned a lot from you. Thanks for these vids!

Thanks Mark, it is nice to know that it was not my lack of experience or skill that made my first attempt at covering such a disaster. Keep up the good work.

Oh no! That was not a good way to start, I do feel for you. Don't let the experience put you off, it can only get better. Just stick with it, when you get some good covering it will be so much better and easier. Thanks for the messages, good luck with the next one 😀

A good honest review. It's such a shame after all that hard work building. (And I know from watching your videos your woodworking is superb). The three products I loved were, solarfilm, solartex and my favourite litespan. Stay warm. Terry

Morning Terry, yes there have been some great covering we have lost, Solatex I used recently, some old stock, and it was so nice to use. I really like Oracover, and I will do a review soon. Yes, thanks you stay warm as well in these difficult times. I am off flying this morning so that should blow the cobwebs out, be interesting to see how my diesel plane likes -2 deg C!

Thanks for sharing Mark👍…who has no edges or curved parts to cover😏…shame that it is still available as a covering material. Used Oracover and Solartex in the past, unfortunately never tried Monocote, but should be great and last forever! Cheers from Munich, Sven🍺

have you used the dancing wing covering? it’s about 15$ cnd for a 2m roll was wondering it similar or the same stuff it comes with no hard card roll in the center so maybe that’s a cost saving

I have a SebArt katana 50e...same problem..they say that SebArt are good designers..well that might be but they don't use Oracover...probably to make more profit...I bought my katana second hand and noticed the transparent top layer let loose or was gone completely..I tried to fix it with Oracover but as soon you start to iron it everything start smearing..terribly. So how to get it off? I used commemdant 4 car cleaner...That worked for me pff....Thanks SebArt....Cheers.

Thanks for the review Mark. Have you tried cellulose thinners to get the glue off? I been using Macgreggor or Ripmax film recently and that seems ok. 👍🏻

Why can you use a heat gun to shrink it on?
@MarkRobinson555
@MarkRobinson555 Жыл бұрын
Not sure what the question is? You can use a heat gun because it is designed to shrink when heated. Is that what you were asking?

Hi Mark this question is a bit out of context for it relates to a Bosch pbd40 drill press review you did 12 months ago. I bought my son a Chinese 420W belt drill press for running Forstner bits as he is starting to make small wooden jars but needs to hollow out - this machine can't handle 50mm and above sizes of the Forstner bits. Would the Bosch one handle it you reckon? I have it saved for $429AUD and would order if it can do the job for him (13yo) Thanks mate. BTW glad I ran across your review very clear and simple and also the way you talk reminds me a lot of a friend of mine David Green who passed a few years ago - a great handyman being an ex RAF Engineer. Brought back memories.

HI thanks for the comment and pleased you like the review. I think that a 50mm Forstner bit may be a little to big for this drill to handel
@mikeykeyes
@mikeykeyes 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkRobinson555 Thanks mate. They just reduced the price even more but naturally no need to buy - ended up with a 80mm and a 100mm bit which I need to resell then :)

I recall a few years ago many of the Chinese ARFs were covered in that or similar stuff. It would already be peeling off when you opened the box. But they were so cheap compared to building one people would strip and recover them with Monokote.

The clear is got to be peeled off and then that side goes down against the balsa it does not sit on top it is a backing only you need to discard the clear.!!
@MarkRobinson555
@MarkRobinson555 8 ай бұрын
Yes, I know that, but the actual film is still cheaply made, comprising a clear film and coloured glue, and the clear film peals off leaving just the glue.

Agreed, awful stuff. cellulose thinners will get rid of the glue, ( the colour will be engrained into the wood though,) it removes enough to enable you to recover with something better.
