Very interesting insights! As an outsider, the class system in the UK always appears very opaque, so thank you for shedding some light on what people consider to be upper- or middle-class.

I'd love to see someone who owns that they are or consider themselves "upper class". In the US, it's common for a large number of people to state that they are "middle class", or variations of middle class, who might otherwise be considered something else. It helps (or at least used to) reduce class tension and a notion of classlessness, if not actual economic and social inequality.

I'm Brazilian and here the social classes are divided in 5 categories: A, B, C, D & E. The definition, as far as I'm concerned, is not only money, but the sum of the following factors: knowledge, behaviour, money, health and so on.

Social classes exist in every single country. You can deny it all you want but they are there… In the USA money rules so you have some more vertical mobility but you can still see social classes…

I grew up in the Caribbean and that lady has such a posh Caribbean accent - I wish you had asked her what class she was back home. Being so light-skinned means she would have had a huge social advantage. (She and I are similar age)

It's very hard to change class in UK ,your born into it it ,it's not about how much money you earn !!

It's interesting to hear how some people think their class changes depending on their financial situation. I do not think so. Class is about education, upbringing and behaviour. There are definitely some new money people who are all money and no class. There are also families who were working class and have moved up over generations through education and profession etc.

I watched many episodes, overall consumed a lot of the British heritage and can say, whatever is said about Brits, they are overall intelligent people and comparing to Russians, for example, i can say they are seemed to be an upper class and we all are a working one. It's in manners, the way they behave and talk, the manner of thinking. Very interesting episode this time, thank you ❤ something to reflect on

Middletons, princess Diana are good examples, also some celebrities like Bohnam Carter and Delevingne are examples how you can go down the class and got out of your circle. Also you can probably become an upper class if you invent or create something outstanding. Nowadays i guess changing classes is a way more possible everywhere, because lower classes become more self defending and it's not that prestigious to be an upper class anymore, not something you can boast of

Princes Diana? Wasn’t she more blue blood than the German family she married into?

How interesting values they have, it seems to me that they defined their class as an individual assessment. I’m Japanese, we do not have such a hierarchical system, but we potentially have an idea of own status in the society. From japanese point of view, it came as a surprise that their remarks about what class they are in because we wouldn’t say anything about individual status in the public domain.

This lady of "lower lower class" made me feel sad I don't know what class I am, for example. I went to public school, got scholarship for the university and then for the international university abroad, i have a masters degree, but i worked as a waitress in the States and currently I'm babysitting my newborn in Germany, planning to do Ausbildung in a different field from my previous one. My husband is in the same situation besides he is working as a labourer in a supermarket. I earned a small fortune in the States, enough to buy a good house in my homeland but not in Germany. And also my parents are people with a university degree and house owners. So how should we qualify ourselves?

I see asian or black people richer than me every day. It's not true that you can't be rich unless you're white. It actually mostly depends on how rich your parents are

That lady saying, that one can never be upper-class, unless they are white. Brings all those people of colour to mind who so carefully cultivate their British upper-class accent. The former British PM, for example, or the short lived chancellor of the Truss government ... a society with classes is a racist society for sure.

It's not true. A family can work its way up over time and generations. Rishi Sunak is definitely upper class. Also, had Harry and Meghan stayed in the Royal Family, their children would have been aristocracy despite being mixed race.
