Recirculating the already cooled air will lead to high humidity (which you must be aware of by now) inside the house. An idea is to build just the cooling mad part on a window, and have a fan on the ceiling pull air into the attic/roof. This way no air is recirculated so you get good cooling without any sticky feeling.

Checking the temperature right in front of the fan is not giving a fair reading... But nice built. I just don't like the high humidity this will bring to the room and it'll destroy a lot of things in the room as well.

Mayor Ushanka Yes, destroy leather shoes for example. They will start to grow fungus. Many things don't tolerate very high humidity.
@TyCetto8 жыл бұрын
Mayor Ushanka The cooling will be very less that way. Most of the cooling in this system is the evaporation effect and you will not have that without the free water.
@ChristakyMe8 жыл бұрын
Is what you say from experience?
@TyCetto8 жыл бұрын
+Christos It's common knowledge that you will need evaporation if you want to reduce temperature.

You said " Yes, destroy leather shoes for example. They will start to grow fungus. Many things don't tolerate very high humidity." and "Even cotton items can begin to grow fungus and things will begin to smell old, so no this is not really such a great idea." Is what you said from experience?

Nope, it's mostly known as a "swamp cooler" since it _can_ cool the air but that "cool air" comes out at 100% humidity, literally. The cooling effect is *only* possible if the incoming warm air is appreciably less than 100% humidity. Stated another way, you could NOT feel the cooling effect from this on a 95 F day at 98% humidity. Remember, a large portion of the comfortable feeling we get from typical vapor compression air conditioning is due to the reduction in humidity, not the reduction in temperature. A swamp cooler is only useful if operated in a very dry climate - like a desert or Arizona. Oh, wait, AZ _is_ a desert...

Nearly the whole Western half of the United States has dry air in summer, not just AZ. As of typing this it's 36% humidity and 81° F where I live in California. These coolers are recommended for these more arid climates.

that's, very, COOL. but I can't help wondering about rust issues, and that wood fibre in the grates going mouldy. You could use aluminium and fibreglass maybe. You could even build the box out of wood and seal it with resins etc like they do with pools and hot tubs. Regardless I still really dig this channel, get's them DIY juices flowing.

@yosranasri10488 жыл бұрын
what does it do exactly ?
@tomhumphries66068 жыл бұрын
The water is evaporated from the wood matting, the heat for this comes from the air drawn through the matting, therefore the air must get cooler, then ejected to front by fan.
