As Stansted only has one runway, I don't understand why it's referred to as 'runway 22'. They should call it 'runway one' to avoid confusion.

Philip Mahoney-Berg they are assigned the number of the cardinal direction they are facing. No 22 is the runway that faces 220 degrees and no 4 is the other end of the same strip that face 40 degrees. Each strip of runway at most airports has 2 numbers. My local airport has an east/west runway 9/27.
