Thats so true. I've started looking at the food in stores vs my own kitchen and realizing I can make just about anything for way less of the cost myself than to buy it at a store. Plus when you cook food, you know exactly what you're eating.

I eat very little heavy processed food besides dry pasta. My husband and I cook and eat breakfast and dinner everyday. We don't eat lunch. We eat anything we want as long as it's home cooking, like fried fish sticks or hamburgers. We usually eat healthier dinners than that though. We do eat our veggies and keep well hydrated with water and two cups of tea a day. You have to have something.... We also eat dessert. It's almost always fruit, but we do bake things and have that sometimes.

Well thats why family system is important, different responsibility for diff person ,if both parent are going out to earn money of course there wont be time for cooking,if grand parent are not living with you ofocurse u have to employee maid to look after ur kids and kid will miss the teaching of grandparent,the traditions, rituals ,customs etc also u have to buy 2 different house ,Joint family system is overall better than nuclear family or single parent family .

@@petsmania1026 it sounds bullshit tho. I think the reason is because Indian food is very hearty and full of fat. Like curries, chicken tikamasala, etc. What if I cook lasagna and pecan pies at home everyday? This advice is bullshit to me. Sure cooking at home is healthier but 'eat anything as long as you cook it yourself' is utter bullcrap. Take a typical obese american, make them cook at home they would cook jacket potatoes and bake cherry pies and all that.

Well, it’s good advice but a little oversimplified. I’m a good cook and there are some very fatty, high calorie things I can make from scratch. An apple pie or a tub of ice cream a day, for instance, even from scratch, isn’t going to keep you slim. Of course, those are somewhat absurd examples. Most people are not going to eat like that. But, my point is that the food should be home cooked but also reasonably healthy. They have to go hand in hand.
@inscrutablemungus4143
@inscrutablemungus4143 10 ай бұрын
I think Pollan's point is that making an apple pie or a tub of ice cream will be cumbersome enough that most people will not make it except for special occasions. (EDIT: For instance, I've cooked every regular meal at home for about a year now and I've made an apple pie once in that time.) On the other hand, if you eat out a lot, it's very easy to just order a dessert with every meal (as a lot of people do). Granted, the way this video is clipped hides some of the context, but this is what he meant in his original talk. When you take into account all of the other things that people have to do in life (work, family, hobbies etc.), if they had to cook from scratch, they'd do what humans have done throughout history: i.e find the best ingredients they could afford and cook them as simply as possible. The once a month side of french fries is fine. The problem is that fast food makes it too easy to eat them with every meal.

It’s a shame this clip leaves off kind of the defining characteristic of the rule. Yes cook everything, but cook everything from scratch is the full rule. And while a minor addition it is still important none the less

I'm actually curious about your budget. What kind of food do you see yourself cooking? (i.e meat/seafood heavy? Or lots of veggies?) And how much would an equivalent frozen dinner or fast food order cost you? The reason I ask is that I've switched to cooking all of my regular meals from scratch and it ends up saving me money compared to more processed food. I want to understand what particular food choices make this switch financially viable.

im reliant entirely on food stamps for my food budget. I only get about #291 per month. I work from home (mostly on youtube) so i do have the time to make my stuff at home. Its just getting the motvation for one, and storing tjhe food for two. Cause my fridge routinley lets my food go bad, especially dairy products, and my complex wont give me a new one@@inscrutablemungus4143
