if the spirit soul has a form like this body with hands and legs like Prabhupad says, because that is how the dress of the body is that fits it, then why do we see that other spirit souls have a body with no hands and legs like a fish, or with many legs like a centipede! What Prabhupad is saying here about the soul/self/Atman having form because the dress of the body has form just does not make any sense.

The following conversation at the end of the same lecture: Devotee (1): Śrīla Prabhupāda, you were saying that because the body has arms and legs, then the coat has a similar shape. Then does the spirit soul that's within our body have arms and legs like that? Prabhupāda: Yes. Devotee (1): Would the spirit soul that is within, say, a cow's body, is in a different shape? Prabhupāda: Yes. It has got also legs. But the shape has taken according to his desire. Every animal has got these four things. Just like bird, it has got two wings, two legs. The animal has got four legs. And the man has got two hands, two legs. So the same parts of the body, they are appearing in a different type. But the four limbs of the body are there. Hmm? Devotee (2): Is the original body of the spirit soul a human form? Madhudviṣa: The question is that whether the eternal form of the spirit soul is a human form, or is it... Prabhupāda: Yes, human form. God is also human form. "Man is made after the shape of God." I think there is in the Bible. Is it not? So God is also like human form. Here you see Kṛṣṇa, two hands, two legs. Hari-śauri: How do we understand, then, that there are peacocks and flowers and trees in the spiritual world? Are these not eternal forms? Prabhupāda: Yes. They are more covered. Just like if you cover your body with blanket, the hands and legs are invisible. But you are not the blanket. So the trees and plants, they are more covered. They are not in full manifestation. The human form is the full manifestation of the soul. Hari-śauri: They are covered in the spiritual world? Madhudviṣa: He is asking if they were actually covered in the spiritual world as well. Prabhupāda: Not in the spiritual world. There that is voluntary. Some devotee wants to serve Kṛṣṇa as flower; they become flower there. If I want that "As a flower I shall lie down at the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa," he becomes flower, voluntarily. And he can change his..., from flower to human body. That is spiritual life. There is no restriction. If some devotee wants to serve Kṛṣṇa as cow, he serves Kṛṣṇa as cow, as calf, as flower, as plant, as water, as ground, field, or as father, as mother, as friend, as beloved---anything. Ye yathā mām prapadyante tāṁs tathaiva bhajāmy aham [Bg. 4.11]. That is Kṛṣṇa's all-powerfulness, spiritual life.

@@gaur_sharan Atman is without form, it is transcendental to forms which are always changing (vikara) because forms are a product, and a product always goes through transformations. If you cover your body in a blanket, the blanket will take the form of the body. The form of the Atman is not due to any desire, if it was due to a desire then it would not be the svarupa (inherent nature) of the Self, it would be adventitious or incidental. When something happens due to desire that is called karma, like in the material world one gets the type of birth due to vasana, stored desires. If one self takes the form of a flower and another as a tree and another as a human form in the spiritual world, then none of those forms are the intrinsic nature of the Self, because the are all qualitatively different. Also if, as the Gaudiya Doctrine proclaims that Madurya Rasa is the highest taste, then why would a soul choose to be a blade of grass, it has said is in the shanta rasa? But how has it come to be that one soul has a desire to serve as a flower and another as a tree or another as a human friend etc. If they have different desires then therefore as they are all of the same category of soul, these desires must have been acquired, so you see this means karma. If something is acquired then it is not of the intrinsic nature (svarupa) of the Self. You are wanting there to be variety in the spiritual world, but variety is based on opposites like hot and cold and all the points in between, up and down and all the points in between, here and there and all the points in between, there cannot be variety without opposites, and this means duality. This is the basis of the relative material manifestation. If you want variety then you must have the opposites...there will be relative good and bad. In the the Self there are no dualities. The Self/Atman transcends those dualities...those varieties. Your conception is a kind of karma kanda...that by doing a particular kind of action, in this case your devotional service, you will attain a particular kind of result. But the Shastras have made it very clear that any results from any actions are temporary. Your spiritual world is a glorified kind of svarga that you think you will achieve through a kind of action. Bhakti, as prescribed by the shastras, like the Bhagavad Gita and the Bhagavata Purana, is to become free of desires for any result from actions, and in this way to become free of identification with the sense of agency (Katri, doership), because when there is no attachment to the result of action there is no sense of self-motivation causing the action. When there is no sense of agency there is no individual volition and hence no sense of individuality. Action, as the Gita makes clear, is performed by Prakriti, by the Buddhi, manas ahamakara and indriyas. Action is in the field (kshetra) not in the knower of the field (kshetrajna). In the verse 13.3 of the Gita: kṣetra-jñaṁ cāpi māṁ viddhi sarva-kṣetreṣu bhārata kṣetra-kṣetrajñayor jñānaṁ yat taj jñānaṁ mataṁ mama the first line reads as "and (ca) also(api) know (viddhi) me (mam) as the knower of the field (kshetrajnam) there is no indication of addition here of a second knower of the field. Now I know you will bring up the two birds in a tree, but that Upanishad verse is referring to the Atman and the ahamkara, and it is the ahamkara that is eating the fruit while the immutable Atman is merely the transcendental (unaffected) witness. We can see this from the succeeding verse when Krishna explains the Supreme Brahman(ParamBrahma) having no beginning (anadimat mat means having and an-adi means no beginning), Brahman here does NOT refer to the individual soul as Prabhupoad would have you believe in his commentary to verse 13.13 and we can clearly see this because the immediate succeeding verse explains this Parambrahman further as: 13.14 सर्वत: पाणिपादं तत्सर्वतोऽक्षिशिरोमुखम् । सर्वत:श्रुतिमल्ल‍ोके सर्वमावृत्य तिष्ठति ॥ १४ ॥ sarvataḥ pāṇi-pādaṁ tat sarvato ’kṣi-śiro-mukham sarvataḥ śrutimal loke sarvam āvṛtya tiṣṭhati "That has hands, feet and eyes everywhere, heads and faces everywhere, ears everywhere, and stands facing towards (or covering) all." There is no word Supersoul/paramatma used in this verse as Prabhupads falsely translates it. The word tat/that obviously refers to the Parambrahma mentioned in the previous verse. And in verse 17, which is further describing this ONE Knower of the field who knows through all eyes heads faces ears etc. as: avibhaktaṁ ca bhūteṣu vibhaktam iva ca sthitam bhūta-bhartṛ ca taj jñeyaṁ grasiṣṇu prabhaviṣṇu ca that is indivisible, yet appears to be divided amongst phenomenal beings. Know that to be the Sustainer of all beings, and the Annihilator, and Creator of all. The word tat is used in these verses instead of the masculine pronoun saḥ (he) because it refers to Brahman in 13.3 which is grammatically neuter as is the neuter pronoun tat. So according to the Bhagavad Gita there is only one knower and it is without qualities or form (nirguna). The knower is non-phenomenal...it knows phenomena, and through the ego-subtle phenomenon, there is identification with transitory dualistic variable experiences. Verse 15 explains that it is without sense but knows through all senses and is without qualities but knows the qualities. सर्वेन्द्रियगुणाभासं सर्वेन्द्रियविवर्जितम् । असक्तं सर्वभृच्च‍ैव निर्गुणं गुणभोक्तृ च ॥ १५ ॥ sarvendriya-guṇābhāsaṁ sarvendriya-vivarjitam asaktaṁ sarva-bhṛc caiva nirguṇaṁ guṇa-bhoktṛ ca shinning through all the senses but devoid of senses, unattached to everything, and yet is the sustainer of all, Although without qualities, is the experiencer of the (three) qualities (of phenomenal nature).

Hare Krishna, Jai Srila Prabhupada 🙏 Thank you for the question, Body and Soul is combined through the influence of the Maya sakti and the soul identifies with the body through its false ego. Without the influence of the maya shakti, soul and body cannot be bound together for they are incompatible, and only if the soul through false ego identifies with the body, the soul will engage in material activities. Spiritual realization is to transform the false ego to real ego, as servant of Krishna. Then there will be no material activities so one can become mukta even while living then when the body eventually dies, the soul will return to the spiritual world in Krishna's service. external energy bewilders the soul through bewilderment of the ego. Identification of the soul with the body is the root cause or mechanism through which maya controls the soul. The moment one realizes he is not this body and starts to chant hare krishna his mind, intelligence and ego that is the subtle body or citta will be purified and the soul will gradually realize its difference from body and its original position as servant of Krishna.

mechanism of how senses, mind and intelligence gather energy from the soul involves destiny and time also. because the soul stays in a body only as long as it is destined. time can force it out of the body naturally or through accidents etc. matter is also an energy of the supreme lord and spirit is also an energy of the Lord. Their interaction is a mystery for as soon as the soul leaves the matter which was active so far starts decaying. Matter can never grow on its own without the presence of spirit.
