The original absinthe used to have a hallucinogenic ingredient called wormwood. Modern absinthe is basically just a flavored alcohol. So when you see depictions of absinthe and people tripping that’s either because it’s portrayed from the past or there are still people that make the real hallucinogenic absinthe, (legally or illegally depending on where it was made) and they are “taking” that.
