My Dad, who was raised in a Pentecostal home said his uncles would pray over the food until it was cold😂😂. After becoming a member of the church of Christ, he always told us to be thankful, give thanks, while we're eating! Prayer is a personal thing I think. Gratitude is the best attitude!

Always good to pray to God before eating. I sometimes forget. I was raised in a family before eating dinner - we would bow our heads and pray “bless this food to our use, and us to they service and let us be mindful of the needs of others.”

My grandparents always said grace at supper time. I don't recall hearing them say it for breakfast or lunch. It wasn't something that my parents ever did. Now, I rarely remember to do it right before the meal - but I generally do it during or after. Like Katie said, though, I express my gratitude to God all throughout the day - so I'm sure He knows I appreciate Him.

Foxglove grow wild here in the PNW. Dad gave me a steamer pot where you put all your veggies in the basket, water in the pot underneath, then put the lid on. Stove top heat. Then, I use the veggie-infused water for a soup base. Nothing wasted.

Hi Katie ---you were asking about any successes with wildflower mixes. My momma came & did up my whole front garden when I was too pregnant to be gardening (18 years ago). She did a beautiful job. She included a good heavy sprinkling of wildflower seeds. One of the first plants to show up was monsterous, threatening to take over every area of the garden. My newborn daughter was inside sleeping & I was busy removing all of them! For brand new plants that shot up like that --their roots were just as crazy. I never found out what those were, but I had many other beautiful wildflowers come up that year. My favorites were wild orange California poppies, sweet williams of every color, & one neat little blanket flower. The sweet williams looked as if they were deliberately planted. So pretty! -much love to both of you ~Mary & fam in NJ

In the Bible, the pharisees, always prayed out in the open in the halls of the synagogue so people could see them and that’s all it was for , show ! I don’t make a big deal out of praying in public that’s not what God asks of us he asks us to be grateful for what we have and our health ect. . The one thing he asked of us that we should never do is deny him before others and always be ready to speak the truth about him and his word! ❤

Hi Ladies. Good to see you! For your bare hill, you might try planting some Lamium (lam - e- um). I have the kind that has bi-colored leaves and gets a sort of pinkish purple flowers. They get about 6" tall, maybe 7" and spread nicely by themselves. They come back every year and also transplant easily. I also have some Lilies of the Valley (Maybells) because of the smell and that they look green all summer. I just love them. Also, know that birds are great planters of seeds. They eat them and then digest them, and their droppings contain undigested seeds. Regarding slugs, diatomaceous earth is great to get rid of them. Spread some around those plants they seem to like, and they will not like the sharpness. You can get it in food grade so it's not harmful to people or pets.

Wildflowers are a hit or miss here too. Love them, but even if one pack gives me most of the blooms, it tends to be the usuals that stick. Foxgloves, columbine, poppy, and something I can't remember the name of. Green leaf plant that has beautiful blue flowers. The leaves almost look like a palm tree frond or fern. Almost turns into a tree because it can get long stalks. Just love it. Super hardy. One benefit to getting those plants (foxgloves and columbine) to stick in the ground long enough though, is that around here, they're always coming back up, anywhere in the yard. Spreads by roots deep underground.

Hello girls! We started raised beds last year and we bought the portable electric chicken fence, That worked pretty well for most of the season but in July the deer ignored it and jumped it and ate everything anyway😢. This year we’re trying something different we have the same fence put up with strands of indoor/outdoor lights wrapped around as we were told that the deer avoid would avoid the bright lights. And it’s pretty lol you will have to use some sort of tie downs on certain poles of your fence to secure and stabilize the fence to keep lights from making it sag. Not certain of the outcome at this point we have our greenhouse right there where our garden is so we have electricity in it that’s wwhere we’re plugging in the fence so we will see. I’m like you I like the deer but I do want them to stay out of my garden!

Hi ladies, thanks for the dinner invite, I enjoyed the conversation! To me, lunch is called dinner and dinner is called supper. That's what my family always called them and I noticed your Mom and Dad do that a lot of the time too. It's very Appalachian.
