If you leave the sweet potato whole they won't be dry. Just poke holes you can grease the skin if you like .takes about an hour in 350 oven for med size potatoes.

It's midnight, but I had to make a can of green beans, because you make them look so good! This is how my grandma in Oklahoma made them, except sometimes she'd use some beef broth instead of the water. Bacon grease is a must! So that's the perfect midnight snack for tonight. Thank you.

I know some people who don’t like cooked cabbage, but I love it. I don’t chop mine as finely as you do, as I like the texture. Sometimes I add both onions and garlic. The 3 with meat approach to meal making is a no brainer and ensures well-balanced eating. Just like a man, your hubby like the chicken best, but I always tend to favor the vegetables. Sometimes I sub a fruit for a veg.

What a wonderful family you have :) Keep the cook'n videos coming!

Now, that looks a top feed (supper) or tea as us bush folks used to call it. Chicken looks amazing - can't do onion or garlic. As a kid, twas mainly Mutton (Lamb). I hated it, almost enough grease, in two chops, to biodiesel a truck. :) But prior to me being cityfied , plain tatas would have been the go, cabbage, beans/peas and pumpkin. Not much caning done, usually frozen beans from the packet, or fresh if home grown. Not supposed to do grease, but the bacon fat or strips (seen your Moms') would be a tempter. We like the orange sweet Tatas, Wifey does those, and plain Tata chips (fries) in the air fryer. Our one true God Bless, back at You and Austin. :)

You cooked up a good supper, Corie! I love how Austin helped you clean up the dishes afterwards. Don’t see to many men do that, it’s always the woman that does all the cooking and cleaning, at least in my household. It’s refreshing to see a man help out in the household. You are both blessed to have each other and work as partners in life. That makes for a happy marriage.

Cori, I also liked sweet potatoes cut up and baked. I really enjoy oiling the cut sides and placing them cut side down on a foil lined baking sheet. The flesh of the potatoes then become caramelized and soft and tasty. Sometimes I'll drizzle a bit of real maple syrup on them as well. thanks for taking me along your supper cooking. A happy belated first wedding anniversary to you and Austin

try tossing some cinnamon along with the butter on the sweet potatoes, and if you're adventurous drizzling some maple syrup or pancake syrup on them as well.

Sweetheart, you have the makings of a true blue southern cook! Your dear mother taught you well. I'm a north FL born and bred native and was raised on my mother's, grandmother's great grandmother's, etc. recipes. I specifically differentiate myself as a north Floridian for a reason. We in the north and (largely) the panhandle region of FL are almost all that is left of what used to be called "Florida Crackers". Mainly because we were born and raised in the houses that were slangly called 'shotgun houses'. Thusly called because the way they were built if you opened the front door and the back door, you could shoot a shotgun and it would go straight through. I know, it doesn't make total sense, but you get the gist. Also because we hold dear and try to continue the down home country cooking dishes that have stood the test of time because they are simply delicious. I've watched enough of your mother's recipes to know that I identify very closely, with few exceptions, of how all my family cooked their food. I wouldn't trade my grandmother's Sunday after church dinners, nor my coming home from school with the smell before i even got home knowing it was coming from my house, for anything in this world. Keep up you and your sister's traditions at any costs. We love you all!!
