Socialists: I'm still hungry... It's time to *eat the middle class*
@godsamongmen80034 жыл бұрын
I think Jordan Peterson called it. He said that socialism is driven by a very appealing idea: that everyone who has more than you got it by corrupt means and deserves to have it taken away. So basically socialism is the politics of envy.
@horvathbenedek35964 жыл бұрын
To be fair, that's not wrong in 99% of the cases. The video brings Pewdiepie as an example of an ethical millionaire, yet he once again made his money by exploiting a quickly growing, initially niche enterprise - making gameplay videos. While he isn't corrupt, he still didn't do a lot for his money. It was thrust upon him by fate. Ultimately in the current world that's practically the only means of achieving "greatness" without becoming corrupt. Every other person who is influential and rich is also, on some level, dirty handed. I know a few rich people, a few of them from my extended family. And they all are frankly either people who either cheated their way to wealth, or willingly exploited the system and their connections (legal cheating). The myth of the honourable wealthy person who grinded his way to the top is indeed a myth. Not because in theory it is not possible to become successful by pure dedication, but because in practice it's so much easier to do it cheating that you only have a chance at competing if you cheat yourself. Same as with sports and PEDs. The alternative is of course luck, but not everyone gets lucky. Even Jordan Peterson would be a relatively unknown person if not for the scandal surrounding him. The solution is of course not socialism. But anyone observing the wealth distribution in the US, or the world in general, can tell that the rich are becoming richer, and the poor are becoming poorer. And this is not because the rich are working harder than ever. The solution is to create a just race where multinational companies don't start with an immense headstart, and small companies and individuals can flourish too.
@horvathbenedek35964 жыл бұрын

In Pewd's defense, he still created something that people valued. However silly or stupid that thing may be, people valued it, and he was rewarded for it. Should he only have been rewarded if he came up from a hardscrabble life? My socialist friends in college wanted a world in which they could do and make anything they wanted and be rewarded for it, regardless of whether or not anyone valued it. Some of them came from rich backgrounds, but time has shown that their artistic drivel is just that. Artistic drivel that no one values.
@kittenbursworthy96134 жыл бұрын
Stinger Grail To me personally, it’s best to just be libertarian about it and leave people alone unless they harm others. Someone who got rich or connected by scamming and exploiting, like the Jukin Media thing or balance bracelets and snake oil salesmen, obviously harmed people. To me, it’s right to intervene in those cases. Those scammers may have put a lot of work into making their scams believable and enacting the process of taking money, but it’s still harmful. On the other side of that, if someone does little work and gets lucky without harming someone, I don’t see what would be gained from going after them. If they fit perfectly into an audience of people that liked gameplay. PewDiePie’s audience chose to watch him and buy his merchandise or sponsored products. It’s like the saying, “work smarter, not harder.” I don’t care how difficult or easy it was to obtain power, just as long as no one is harmed or exploited along the way.

Your comment on how, even in communism, somebody must work to provide your food and shelter, and that capitalism lets you do it for yourself, and that it's not the political system that drives human need, it's reality itself, regardless of the system, is a REALLY important point. It's fundamentally reality that is "The Tyrant", not any system we use to cope with it. Also, the first "enemy" of any political system is not another political system, it's humanity itself. WE eventually fuck things up, and WE have to be responsible enough to handle our political systems, cultures etc. And, too often, we aren't. That said, different systems produce different outcomes. Communism/socialism always seems to end up terribly. It seems to encourage worse human behavior, while it proclaims it does the opposite.
@Muck0064 жыл бұрын
This point is based upon the fact that people these days are seriously removed from "nature" and the "natural needs and requirements for survival". Before the industrial revolution, when most people lived in villages and did manual labour on farms, everyone knew "if I dont work I will starve". Ever since people moved into the cities they have lost "basic knowledge" and "basic wisdom".

The main problem with politics is that no one seems capable of speaking about it without going to extremism. "Eat the rich" is a clear example. The problem is not the rich, is the distribution of wealth. The aim shouldn't be eating the rich, but creating a system where even the poorest can live with dignity. Rich and poor are equally good and evil and I am in disbelief by that fact than even a kid should know this.

This is hilarious. I personally know the woman in the thumbnail. She was my TA for intro to ethics at the University of Washington, and I actually got her to say that she does not think instincts are real on the basis that they are socially constructed. This was in response to a hypothetical involving a schoolteacher shielding her students from an attacker, to which I suggested that the teacher could have done so purely out of instinctual response rather than consequentialist moral calculus, Kantian imperatives, or because it was a consciously virtuous action. It was possible, therefore that one could act morally without being consciously aware of their own actions, which obviously presents some difficulties for the primary moral philosophies. Her response was so mind boggling that I still regularly think about it lmao. Like how could you actually say biological instinct is a social construct and not second guess yourself immediately after. Blows my mind.

Meaning that people who had previously used the term with gleeful zeal now found themselves being labeled with it. On encountering the numerous people wearing an outfit that costs more than the entirety of my wardrobe, carrying various other visible examples of conspicuous consumption, and espousing the "eat the rich" ideology I think it appropriate to label them a kulak immediately rather than waiting until after they've started a purge. Perhaps also rhetorically asking them if they prefer to be fried or roasted just to further drive home the point.
