Few communion songs emit the deep emotion this wonderful hymn brings forth. We have a large and talented choir and when we sing this, the sound has a wonderful reverberation throughout our rather massive church. Our choir will be singing this once again at Sunday Mass, consequently this lovely rendition is a great reference for my home practice sessions.

Eat this Bread, drink this Cup. Come to Me and never be hungry. Eat this Bread, drink this Cup. Trust in Me and you will not thirst. I am the Bread of Life, the true Bread sent from the Father. Your ancestors ate manna in the desert, but this is the Bread come down from heaven. Eat My flesh and drink My blood and I will raise you up on the last day. Anyone who eats this Bread will live forever. If you believe and eat this bread, you will have eternal life.

I don't think this belongs to any church in particular. As a Lutheran, the first time Pastor sang this, I was so touched. Beautiful for all Christians.

This song... so many memories of comfort and bliss after communion at Calvary Episcopal Church in Santa Cruz. The chant was the best part of the service. The whole congregation singing quietly as one. I have not seen or felt that sense of love and peace in a group of people since. Admitted it was fleeting, but it did exist. I still get goosebumps listening to it again.

What a beautiful hymn! Makes me proud to be Catholic! "So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." John 6:53

+Tyler Larew I don't mean to be rude, but it's not a Catholic hymn. It a Taizé chant. If you like this, then you should search Taizé on KZbin, and see what other beautiful songs you'll find from this Ecumenical Community. :)

+Jonathan Blanton From all I've read about its composer, Jacques Berthier, it appears that he was a Roman Catholic writing songs for the Taize community.
@Jonathan-qs4de9 жыл бұрын
+Franklin P. Uroda More than half of the songs in the chantbook were written by Berthier. The monastery itself is comprised of both catholic and Protestant monks. It's an "ecumenical community." The reason for my comment is an aim for Christian unity, like the message behind the music. People in the Deutsche Evangelische Kirche have Taizé songs in their hymnbook as well.

Why consubstantiation and not transsubstantiation, for Jesus said this is My Body, this is My Blood. Do this in remembrance of Me. And He is the bread from Heaven (John 6:51-53) He was born in Bethlehem, which literally means "house of bread".

James Flinchbaugh Christ also said the he is the “door”, the “way”, etc. Is he using actual terms or metaphors? That’s the age old question.

What kills in this rendition is the strong male bass vocal. I have some things wrong that kind of prohibit hitting tenor. However I’ve been a career bassist in a Catholic Church. I love this piece of music. The bass line during the chorus is fun as well. Very well done.

Re BH remark - Not being grammatically correct to 'drink this cup', -- these words are so full of meaning it eclipses this trivial minor thing, and encompasses, a wealth of sacredness, that is brilliantly beautiful in its entirety !
@FranklinPUroda9 жыл бұрын
+josparkes1 I drink a cup of coffee once or twice a day. Never heard an English prof or grammatical martinet remark on the incorrect usage. The Roman Catholic "eat from this bread" during Mass is awkward. It's a slavish translation of the Latin "ex eo," which in common English should be "eat it."
@macvuraegh8 жыл бұрын
+josparkes1 The prayer has changed, it used to be, "Take this, all of you and eat it. This is my body which will be given up for you." Now it is "Eat of it," which doesn't sound as good to me, but I'm old school, remembering the Latin Mass from before Vatican II.
