those Lulos look like persimmons, they sell them here in the US too, its a fall fruit, its a type of squash, tastes like a mini pumpkin sort of just more sweet and more flavor

we've tried persimmons, those are originally from Asia right? The lulo might be a cousin, it's more tart

best hot sauce I have found in Colombia is Pulpa de Aji...its orange in color...you can find it i tubes at some of the grocery stores. No one will ever know what you are asking for so you just have to find it. In Bogota they sell it in medicine looking bottles and its a little salty but the best I have found period in Colombia.

Hmm I think I’ve tried it but I found it to be pure acid, not really flavorful. Solo pica sin dar buen sabor. If we’re thinking of the same one, then it’s not for me 😬

The food looks good and reasonably priced. After you leave Colombia, would you make a video about travel tips in Colombia. Which places to visit, which ones to skip, which places are budget friendly which ones are expensive, how to get around, health and safety concerns if any, where to stay, etc. Is there something during your trip that you would have done differently?

It’s rock hard when it’s raw, but softens up when boiled. So about as crisp as an apple but a bit softer still. It’s really hard to describe lol And you’re in for a treat soon! As always a fascinating video making me hungry. Here is a trivia for you: if you ever go to Germany, you might come across someone offering you "Schampus" which is pronounced the same as champus. However, no, it has nothing to do with the Colombian champus, it is simply a germanized form of saying "champagne", so you are being offered some bubbly drink :D

Kevin seems to be referring (some 3½ min. into this vid) to "nopal en la frente" which i thought was a pejorative Mexican expression. do i misinterpret? am i misinformed?
@EatBailaTravel
@EatBailaTravel Жыл бұрын
Great question! You’re not misinformed, it’s just a nuanced situation because it depends on how it’s said (tone and context). Some people might say it and try to use it as an insult but most of the time its not (at least not for us). We say it with pride but if someone else, for example a white/Anglo person says it with disgust then their intentions are pretty clear

Is the fish soup/sancocho de pescado - also a hangover cure - ever used in a colloquial context? Or other foods in general? There is a Korean hangover soup, haejang-guk, that became the subject of a kpop song (Stray Kids Hero’s Soup 해장국). On the surface, the song is about a soup but extends to an analogy on how the work culture fuels alcoholism in men (mostly fathers) and how that deteriorates their mental health. It turns out, many Koreans have the shared experience of haejang-guk being the soup their fathers drank in the mornings for hangover relief after drinking too much alcohol for work business social the night before.

Wow that’s super fascinating! I haven’t heard of a colloquial use in that way here in Colombia hmm 🤔 but thanks for sharing that interesting cultural anecdote!
