I would bump up rent cost in El Poblado to around $1,000. Rent costs have gone up considerably. I was in a 3 bed 2 bath apartment 120mts in El poblado (nice area) and now an average price for the like is 5million+ pesos (over $1k US). Many landlords are NOT renewing tenants leases so that they can bump the rent to actual market values. Legally in order to renew a lease landlords can only go as high as the yearly inflation values which is a lot lower than market value. So they don’t renew leases in order to keep up. That just happened to me. Don’t blame them. I’d do the same. So 5million plus seemed excessive to me so I ended up purchasing a place. Envigado is nice (used to live there) but traffic in Medellin is a beast and sense most of my errands are in el Poblado, it is much more convenient living there. Sabaneta is another great town but Omg, it’s even further into traffic! All in all it’s still inexpensive if you earn in Dollars. Just bump up your budget expectations. Unless you’re single or a couple that needs only a 1 bedroom. Good stuff!

@@ZorichaiI rent here now and have been doing so for about 5 years. I was able to save so much money because I generate USD and live very simple and humble here. I make about 20.000.000 pesos and it is all passive income. My rent and cost of living is no more than $1,200 dollars per month. Still not sure if I want to buy here though. Bank CD's have been taking care of all my monthly costs. Not sure if that will be the case if I use that investment money to buy a house. If equity keeps going up then that be great over the years. But then there is rate exchange, maintenance and taxes. Then if the peso goes down I can also lose there. Lots to think about.

It's so sad how foreigners call a $600 rent cheap, when it used to be around $300 about 2-3 years ago. Not that it's entirely your fault as an individual, but we locals can't afford to pay rent anymore, and you calling it "cheap", just... privileges (minimum salary here is just a little over $200, so that's not a cheap rent and we don't have a decent place to live, even as middle class people, this is definetely out of control)
@Karl__Pierre Жыл бұрын
Let's examine this. I understand your point of view as far as me saying it's cheap. Others in the world can say the same thing about your position relative to there's. 3 years ago this apartment was not $300 additionally alot of what's driving the price is inflation more so than foreign demand. Local demand is also driving prices. The demand is so high that I'm watching buildings be raised aggressively to meet the market demand, which creates jobs and drives the Colombian economy. I big setback in Colombia was the handling of the pandemic and how that led to a total shut down. Again I understand you are frustrated and my best recommendation is to focus your efforts on earning more money because it's totally within your power to gain skills that are more valued on the global marketplace

@@Karl__Pierre So you are telling us the remedy for our situation were massive amounts of immigrants such yourself, occupying most of the properties in Medellin, making unlivable the situation to thousands of people who can't afford housing (all of this while being obnoxious to neighbors with parties, drugs consumption, prostitution, and entitlement), is just making more money? JUST MAKING MORE MONEY? Wow, what an enlighted, revolutionary and out-the-box way of thinking you brought with you from your privilege and civilized world. My Goodness, Why Didn't I Think of That.

It sucks to hear that but I think it's a worldwide thing. Prices in america and all over the world are shooting up too. I wish they paid yall more out there, but the sad thing is that it seems like it wasn't priced for yall to afford, even when it was considerably cheaper. And to add to this i know foreigners get charged more for the same thing than locals do, so its more than foreign money causing the problem. The same in africa, parts of Asia as well. I don't really know a solution. It's way deeper than expats though. We dont set the price, or benefit from it. The greedy of the world know no end.

Being retired - I personally consider that apartment extravagant and unnecessary. -- A nice yet somewhat frugal studio is fine with me perhaps 'next door' to your high dollar neighborhood ? -- The extra $ might go for a cook & house cleaner who can provide some shopping and a few days of very good meals working for me a day per week ? -- The travel around the city alone will take some time for orientation and will be quite fun. -- That weather - is amazing ! Might need an umbrella from what I hear ?

Umbrella is a must. You can get a similar apartment in a building in Centro for about 250-300 oddly enough studios aren't that common or priced well. Great country and people.. Just bought an awesome top floor condo in Medellin a few blocks from the stadium thats massive for under $91k USD and just got another 2 bed in laureles for $66k.. Only thing that I dont like is the way the transaction is handled in colombia compared to the US. When you buy a used property in colombia there in no escrow services for a netural 3rd party to hold funds. Theres escrow services only for new properties.. Luckily, I have family there from my wifes side... If you do your homework on Colombia you will see that its economy will continue to flourish in the decades to come just like whats happening in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. Countries like Chile have become way too expensive to buy since youll see some condos/houses more expensive than in San Francisco here in the US.... I cant imagine how it gets to that point that residents of their countries cant even purchase on their own native land.... To circle back, Colombia is a damm awesome country.. Great art, film, and music scene.. Food is very good and transportation is excellent to be honest...I highly recommend people consider it as an investment choice or to retire which I plan to on the not so distant future..

I dont know why all this price comparison with states. In Colombia the average salary is 350USD while in states 10x moe. So basically you are paying that apartment equivalent of $6500 in USA which is horrendous

Is 90,000 dollars saved and 1,100 dollars a month enough to live in bogota colombia? I have family who live there i want to buy an apartment and live there with a Colombiana girl. I’m on disability from the state and won a lawsuit
@Karl__Pierre3 ай бұрын
Yes, Bogotá has a relatively low cost of living compared to many major cities, though your experience will depend on your lifestyle and housing choice. Your $1,100 monthly budget should cover basic expenses, including food, transportation, and entertainment, but it’s wise to have a buffer for unexpected costs.

I got married in Colombia some years ago. But we moved to England to live. My wife was always concerned about living in Medellin, Colombia, though it's a great developing City. For foreigners living there, you are always at risk of being taken hostage for money. The Government are always at war with the terrorists hidden away in the mountains. Especially if you venture out in the countryside and mountains traveling,

$60 per person at a "high-end" restaurant. So $120 for you and your girl. $240 for you and your girl and her parents. Assuming you don't drink much. Drinks run from say $8-12 apiece. Beers say $3-4 apiece.
@Karl__Pierre Жыл бұрын
Drinks can range but that's about right. But when comparing equivalent restaurants in the states in a trendy downtown restaurant in any large city you're easily paying 2-3 times that. Go to the top tiers it's more.like a 5x delta

With Ubers, dinners, dating, short term rentals, toiletries ect ect Nobody is living for 1,500 a month unless they are living like a college kid
@Karl__Pierre Жыл бұрын
Firstly, short-term rentals are significantly raising the cost of living. As I mentioned before, my apartment runs me all in 700 a month. It's not a short-term rental. My office is up the block, and I have no need to eat out daily all meals of the day. I'm also married, if I were dating someone, it wouldn't take much to treat a partner out weekly. It's all doable on $1500 for sure. In your opinion for your lifestyle (please describe) how much would it be. Then take that same lifestyle and let me know what it would run you in any of then 10 largest cities in the States.

Great deal, while you're living at your cheapest people here in Medellín are struggling to find decent places to live because of the high rent prices and gentrification. Thanks to you and thousands of immigrants like you (yes, immigrants not "expats"). This video reminds me the controversy about a black queer woman (Kristen Gray) living in Bali, also flexing her economical and luxury lifestyle privilege. This is sickening.
@Karl__Pierre Жыл бұрын
You know what's sickening, someone who tries to vilify others, especially others who are making a difference and creating opportunities for the "common person" masking their jealousy as righteousness. All these immigrants, expacts, and gentrification agents are creating jobs, creating local commerce, paying taxes, paying into sura, and spending money. So you'd prefer they stopped then what there be less jobs but prices be more "reasonable". 🤔
