I REALLY appreciate you having the staff give a reaction to the food as well. You have an iron stomach so it's hard to fully trust your reactions.

Masaru's "yeah it's not great" is the equivalent of a normal person trying not to throw up and running off to brush their teeth, this really puts into perspective all the other times he's had food he wasn't that thrilled with.

The commentary during the collection part really makes this feel even more hyper Japanese, if such a thing is possible. I feel like this is educational material but I have no idea what the lesson is from video to video.

I wonder if shaking them hard in the container might have caused their insides to become mixed up more than they normally would be? Super interesting video regardless

I would recommend sturdy cut resistant gloves like Kevlar, to prevent being stung. It also helps with lionfish spines (venomous).
I think I'm losing my mind, I feel like I've watched this before? Maybe I'm confused..

If you get a sea urchin spine in your hand, soak it in vinegar. The vinegar dissolves the spine. If you try and take it out it just crumbles.

Морских ежей очень удобно чистить в кастрюле. Положи их в кастрюлю и хорошо потряси-все иголки обломятся и их спокойно можно будет брать руками.

Masaru! Come die the Oregon coast! You can catch a thousand purple urchins and some are as big as a grapefruit. (Much bigger than an orange)
@mereropata-box4030Күн бұрын
All I can say is you opened those very small Banded Sea urchins like a novice, smashing the shell and spikes into the roe just diminishes the harvest as does washing them in fresh water. NZ sea urchins are actually the best in the world with roe measuring up to 3 or 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. Also if you really want to taste the true flavour of the sea, why would you mix vinegar and soy sauce with them. Yes to the seaweed cos it enhances the flavour. Please dont diss our Kina, sea urchins, its the best...
@roberta664122 сағат бұрын
natonal pride dosent stop a national dish from being disgusting. just take the loss on the nose like everyone else and accept your urchins are good by your own standards not other peoples.
@mereropata-box403017 сағат бұрын
@roberta6641 yes you are absolutely right, eating kina is an acquired taste and I will continue to do so. Even chef Gordon Ramsey has eaten our kina with his scrambled eggs, and he loves them too.
