Tanmay this side bhai... universally 1 plate idli vada means 2 idlis and 1 vada, specifically down south.....the idli concept was invented in south india mainly because during WW1 & WW2 there was a scarcity of rice in SI..... so they grounded it into coarse mixture and boiled it which became idli...... further paste to it and it became vada...... they added some vegetables to the coarsely grounded rice to make it upma...... thus became a popular dish....
