Great sound pickup on the phone; the sizzle was very memorable. Do you like A-1 / worcestershire? What are your choices for bread, butter, fries? I honestly dont associate rice and steak; more like steak and potato. With a lot of butter, sour cream and salt. In the USA the 'Outback' steakhouse chain is about center class. Not to cheap, not really high-end. Some of your miso soup appeared very enriched!

i was relieved to see you ate the steak with rice...at first i thought from the picture does he just eat the entree? i always need at least the same amount of rice or more but then thought...i wonder if i eat like a peasant and maybe higher class people just eat the meat. (i got the idea from watching some chinese food videos and thought it was strange how the hosts would eat the different main dishes and i didn't see any rice on the table...(though they were westerners i don't know if that was a factor)

I'm surprised it's US beef. I assumed Japan would be importing Australian beef
@lindseyrea923710 ай бұрын
And New Zealand beef. In 2022, New Zealand exported NZ$349 million worth of beef to Japan.
@straightpipediesel10 ай бұрын
Two reasons: First, US beef is corn-fed (grain-fed) and marbles better, and there's a different taste. Second, Japan allows large amounts of US beef in order to (partially) balance the trade deficit. Japan opened their beef market to the US in the 80's under the threat of import tariffs on Japanese cars.

It's so funny to me that hamburg steak is considered a viable meal in Japan when most of us in the West would either wonder where the rest of our burger is or complain that we didn't get a 'real' steak. I guess a scarcity of cows in your country will do amazing things for your appreciation of beef.
@straightpipediesel10 ай бұрын
People in the US certainly do the same. Salisbury steak, which is the same thing, is a classic TV dinner and cafeteria food. You also have the related meatloaf and chicken fried steak, both classic American comfort foods.

When a Japanese National comes to America and has a burger they have to freak out. We don't add breadcrumbs and egg to stretch the meat out. Plus, hamburger in Japan is always well done.
