That restaurant concept is something you would only see in Tennessee (or generally in the South), and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! What a great way to meet, socialize, and have dinner with people that could end up being lifelong friends!! I personally was not aware that a public dining format like this existed anywhere, and learned something new!! Banger video as always!! Love you always!!

@@Ena48145 Brennen is incredibly respectful when he does filming in public locations, such as restaurants. Any person in his videos who is not typically a "main character" he gets permission from to put them in a video. Else, the part is edited out or blurred. The only people I took notice of in the video were Brennen himself, Jake, his friend Jared, and Jared's significant other. Any other people who may have made a brief appearance in the video are from general footage that was captured to show the atmosphere and inside of the eatery. I would also sort of imagine it to be somewhat difficult to talk and have dinner with total strangers when an eatery format like this, at least to my knowledge, does not exist in Cali and it is something totally new to you. I'm from Pennsylvania and we have absolutely nothing like this here so that would be something for me to get used to, too.

We have a cookhouse restaurant in Northern California on the coast in Humboldt County (giant Redwoods country) that started its life in around 1893 as an actual cookhouse/mess hall/cafeteria for a logging mill where the mill workers and longshoremen from the nearby docks would go to eat their meals every day. Now they serve three meals a day, no menu, only what is prepared for that day for that meal, but there's always leaves of delicious homemade bread. You're served family-style at long wooden tables, seated next to whoever happens to be sitting there, but it's a little different than the place in this video because your party is still considered its own party with its own plates of food to be passed around, and you can be seated next to people who have been there a while and already have their own food. You are however seated right next to people you dont know, and you can strike up a conversation with them. There's also a museum attached showing the history of the building and surrounding area. It's always been one of my absolute favorite places to go. When my husband and I were dating 40+ years ago, we'd often take a day trip over to the coast just to have dinner and then drive back home. It was a 7-hour round trip 😅. Ahh, to be young again!!

Wha? I lived in Brooklyn NY for 24 years and there were at least two family style joints I knew of. Plus one I used to go to in Queens, and several I knew of on Long Island. It's definitely not a Southern only concept or thing. And one of the places I used to go to was a Southern BBQ/soul food place, and it was incredible. And at the time amazingly cheap, I think in 94 or so it was about $8 a person. Nowadays it's probably closer to $25-30 or more I'd imagine.

You'd be surprised how easy going it is. Normally people at the table with you won't even talk to you if you don't want to converse, and most will understand if you are uncomfortable. But one of the main points of going to a family style sit-down place is to meet people possibly and talk with people. But I understand with social anxiety myself it's hard.

This sent me back to my family reunion! We all live in washington state now but we still get together at a cousins house and all bring a dish. The cornbread, buscuits and fried chicken are a staple. And can’t forget about the incredible southern sweet tea! So fortunate to grow up on food like this😇 We didn’t leave the table till all our plates were clean! Great way to stay close to family. I live in North Carolina. We have a place called 'Hillbilly Hideaway' it is same concept. All SOUTHERN FOODS. So Good! And that is Pecan Pie not a cake. Hollar if you want a good pecan pie, I got you!❤ You need some fried okra/squash & some 'cracklin' cornbread'! Fried streaked meat on the side of greens.

Monell‘s is indeed an incredible place to eat, and their fried chicken is better than any I’ve had since my grandmother’s. And I agree with others here that you should’ve given that corn pudding a second chance, because it is really tasty.
