The vomit flavored jelly bean came when the inventors of Jelly Belly beans wanted to make a pepperoni pizza flavored bean. Failing to make it, and all testers reporting it tasted exactly like vomit. They scrapped the idea. After the market for making every flavor jelly beans popped up, largely inspired by the Harry potter novels and just the novelty of it, they pulled it from their archives and started making a specific bean to mimic Vomit. They added the acidity of vomit to it and then marketed it as the bean we know today.
