Ma sha Allah. Fantastic lectures on food. There is one thing though. You spoke about not eating salt. It is a sunnah of the prophet sallallaho alaihi wassalam to have a pitch of salt before and after eating. What is your take on this?... Jazakallah khaire

I don't have evidence that he did so. It's just a hadith and I have a lot of doubt that is true. If the messenger of God, the most influential man in history, ate salt every day for 20,000 days on earth, and there is not a single ayah about in the Qur'an, it doesn't add up. Allah explains his ayaat. He makes things clear so that we may have certainty. If He wants me or you to consume salt, He would have made it so clear that there would be no doubt. There are numerous in the Qur'an commands to eat. There are also a number of commands to drink. Where is the clarity and certainty from Allah, in his name, that would make us eat or drink salt? Allah puts down salty water in the Qur'an (56:68-70). He also removes salt from the primary resource with which He creates our food, which water. Minerals are there in the earth. How do plants get them? In water. The minerals enter water and then enter the plant's roots. Why did He filter out all the salt from the ocean water when He made the rain? I know why. So that our food would grow well. Did He plan it that we would have to supplement it with salt to make it better or to season it or for flavour? Yes. For seasoning salt is functional, and for preserving. However for flavouring or for nutrition it doesn't make sense. Flavour and nutrition are intrinsic to a food. They come from the growth and ripening of the food. Salt is not a food. It doesn't grow. It is mineral, lacking organic content such as H, O, N, and C. Allah has spoken about food that grows in the qur'an, not any food that doesn't grow. During growth He puts these organic substances into a food: H, O, N, C, and others. With that He can create limitless beautiful colours, flavours, shapes and textures. Aromas as well. So first of all, be sure that sodium in a meal is not as an organic element but it is a post-growth agent. It is not nutritious. Rather, it can be useful for food preservation and protein breakdown. However for breakdown, it is not as good as enzymes. When mimicking an enzyme, it does minimal work and creates difficult proteins because it's not a true enzyme. If it's not a food, why eat it? Salt can be used to preserve food, but it isn't a food. It's dysbiotic, so it creates a little burden on the gut every time a person consumes it. If it's consumed unavoidably because it is a preservative in a food, that's one thing. If it's being used us food or a flavouring, that's another, but it doesn't make sense. Long term salt burdens internal systems and can result in damage to major vital organs. The gut is probiotic, but salt can destroy some of the good gut biome.
