I'm going to the all-you-can-eat KFC in Japan. The KFC chicken is very popular during Christmas time.

This review only shows in how a food franchise can prosper in other countries outside of its original "home base". I grew up in the States loving Kentucky Fried Chicken and even got to visit the birthplace of the Colonel's cuisine when he ran a hotel in Corbin, Kentucky (there's a little museum and a KFC outlet there). While the quality of KFC varies with the franchises, and customer loyalty, in this video the loyalty is AMAZING! Wow! Great review.

He spent 3 hours in a line waiting for 2 plates of food only to decide ... You can have too much fried chicken. Just order a Party Bucket for less money and no queue..... you will get the same feeling of ordered too much, eyes bigger than belly. Solo Travel Japan needs to get back to his routes, none of this USA crap.

No one in America would spend their money at a US KFC, we have Popeyes and Chik Fil A as well as other chicken restaurants. KFC Japan is clearly high quality.

I've always wondered why KFC is so popular in Japan for Christmas. Thanks for showing us the experience! I'm not a fan of KFC myself, but the Japanese version looks so much more appetizing than it does here in the US, even if it's still a little too much to eat haha. Happy Holidays everyone!

It only took one brilliant marketing campaign to make it the staple Christmas dinner. What's crazy to me, is that Christmas in Japan is more of a romantic celebration, rather than a merry family-oriented holiday. This is probably why there isn't really anything to do around Christmas in Japan, in the same (or even similar) way as in the west. No Christmas markets/fairs, no huge displays, no weird festivals. Merry Christmas though, enjoy the (what is it in the US) turkey? 😀

because the japanese doesn't have an oven big enough for a turkey, so they substitute it with chicken instead, thus the KFC is popular

I live in Kentucky, and they did away with most of the all-you-can-eat buffets due to the pandemic. In an odd way, I kind of miss it. Loading up on chicken wings and biscuits was a craving I would get occasionally. Merry Christmas and hope you'll continue making great content in 2024!

I tried to get a bit healthier pre-pandemic, and cutting out buffets from what I previously did to maybe something like every couple of months had helped me do so. I had to keep from feeling I would miss out on something so I was overloading my plate. Even though I had gotten lots of exercise those buffet days earlier, I had felt a bit of regret later. So no regrets for that now.

I love this channel. I was so close to visiting Japan at one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity. That would've been a real dream come true to visit Japan, South Korea etc :)

For everyone wondering why Christmas is so different in Japan, well, for them it’s just like any other normal day because all these Christmas’y things are 100% imported. The dominant religion in Japan is Shinto or Buddhism, and Christmas isn’t simply a thing they relate to from that perspective. It’s more like a romanticized part of the year they have adopted. That’s also why there is no Christmas turkey (very anglo-american only by the way), or similar stuff happening on Christmas Eve nor Christmas Day.

STJ I love your channel. I've been watching for a few years now. I am saddened that KFC has inflitrated Japanese culture. This stuff is absolutely terrible for you. I just watched "Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zone" on Netflix. They featured Okinawa as one of the Blue Zones. It was truely amazing. I want to travel there. At the end of the series, they said, 20-years after intial filming, this blue zone has been shrinking and Okinawa now has one of the highest obestity rates in Japan. McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, Coco-Cola etc are an affront on the citizens of Japan. I hope you will travel to Okinawa again one day. Those were one of my favorite videos! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

People in the U.S. would NEVER tolerate a 3 hour wait for KFC! They’d go to Popeyes or El Pollo Loco . . . drive-thru. I personally would not wait that long even for all-you-can-eat, just buy a family size bucket with all the sides and go sit at home . . . We don’t get all the fancy cakes and coffee jelly here . . . no reservations for Christmas either! WTF?! 😂😘

I'll admit I don't eat KFC very often here in Australia but on my first trip to Japan in 2016 I tried some KFC in Kyoto and Osaka and it was bad, very greasy. So bad that on my second trip to Japan in 2023 I avoided KFC entirely. Same with the McDonald's in Japan, a disappointment. But the Burger King was delicious! Of course, the majority of our trip was eating local Japanese cuisine and it was both delicious and memorable for the right reasons.

How exactly does all-you-can-eat work in Japan? It seems convenient to pay first, because you can just leave when you're done, or when your time is up, but it's the time part I don't fully get. Does the staff let you know when you have 5 minutes left, or do they know that most people will respect the time limit without reminders? I had KFC in Funabori, but of course, it wasn't all-you-can-eat. The chicken sandwich I had was excellent
