america is literally one of the only places where identity is such a huge issue and taken so seriously... and it's getting weaponized all the time. in most parts of the world it's not that big of a deal because most people don't dare to take themselves seriously like that. you need to understand the ego and let go of it. study buddhism. it will help you out a bunch to understand yourself, your ego and identity.

I’d recommend something like Stoicism to someone like her. Eastern philosophy is too loaded with abstractions, I don’t think it’s of much benefit to Westerners at large because of the cultural context that those philosophical practices originated from. Also “letting go of the ego” is terrible advice to someone who suffers from dissociation.

I try and challenge myself to explore my identity beyond the confines of tribalism. For the longest time, I felt I needed to wear bohemian clothes in order to prove to myself I’m an artist. Or watch TV shows I wasn’t interested in, because they were popular among fellow theatre and literature enthusiasts. I think on an evolutionary level, humans are taught to compartmentalize everything. And why sometimes “identity” means not only fitting into a social faction (a scholar, a business person, a hippie, etc.), but having to meet a criteria to fit into that faction (i.e. you can’t be emo without loving My Chemical Romance or if you love My Chemical Romance, then that means you’re emo and that’s your identity). In recent years, I realized limiting myself to only defining my identity through social factors (Jewish, college student, INFP, etc.) was preventing me from engaging in deeper self reflection. Because we’re all so much deeper and more multifaceted than our jobs, ethnicity and even our hobbies and personality traits. That being said you look awesome with aqua hair ;) you’re amazing, Trisha. I literally love Sadboy2005 so fucking much I’ve been playing it on repeat all day. I was screaming “under my skin” so loud this morning in my car and I literally know all the lyrics. This album has actually beeen helping me get through a lot of mental shit and I’m so happy you made this. It’s making me feel more comfortable with expressing the darker side of my life which I always feel the need to keep inside. I know that if you being vulnerable and expressing the dark side through music is helping me learn how I can be vulnerable and express that side of myself in a healthy way and maybe I could inspire others to do the same. Life is so hard and people try and hide all of their misery and that just makes it worse. We should all just talk about everything, the good the bad and the ugly. I love every single song in so many ways. The line “who could do this sober” in mulholland drive hits me so hard every time. I know you are talking about being in LA but I feel that way about life sometimes. I just love this album so much. I love you and please keep making this kind of music. Any genre, just keep being and expressing you and your real feelings. I love you ❤️
