man, this hit me kinda hard. starting in high school I developed an extreme addiction to sugar along with severe depression, and the combination of those two things led to me getting to 278 pounds at my heaviest weight in 2020. I used to eat roughly double portions for every meal if not more, and in between I would have cookies, doughnuts, and candy on hand at all times. I'd order fast food delivery at least once a week, and my usual order is over 1,000 calories on its own. And of course I wasn't exercising at all. Last year I quit taking the antidepressant I'd been on for the same length of time and... My sugar cravings vanished almost overnight. I've lost 30 pounds since then. I've put myself on a strict diet, cut my portions down to a quarter of what they were and only two meals a day and I only eat snacks if i walk to the store to get them. I'm still heavy enough that exercising is pretty uncomfortable, but I think I'm getting better now. It's less tiring and painful to walk than it has been. Sorry to just dump all this. It's just really heartening to know that you're not just one of those people with a crazy high metabolism who can eat whatever they want and never gain any weight. It's nice to know there's hope for someone like me.

We were very poor and I was one of six but mother made meals from scratch right through the week - including the obligatory dessert. That was sometimes chocolate sponge with chocolate custard. Or jam sponge with ordinary custard, baked apples with custard, bread and butter pudding, bread pudding, apple pie and custard, treacle tart and custard. Never ice cream or indeed anything processed / out of a packet. No confectionery 'treats'. She made her own bread on a day-by-day basis. A slice of bread and jam and a cup of tea or coffee when I got home from school and a proper cooked meal when the old coot got in from work. Virtually all wholefoods, nothing rammed with preservatives. We were no strangers to chips but even they were hand cut from potatoes - never frozen, reconstituted muck. It was rustic cooking but very good. I was big but athletically proportioned.

Also shows how aware parents must be that their kids eat too much, yet keep over feeding them anyway. My mum grew up in a house were sometimes they didnt always have a lot of money so they would get to eat but they wouldnt be full so she grew up feeling hungry. As a result she buys way too much food and was a bit too obsesses with making sure we ate plenty and never felt hugry. Which isnt a healthy way to think about food. Someones who is overweight has to eat less, feeling hungry occasionally in order to lose weigt will actually do them good in the long run. Even now after i lost 50lbs, being the only one in the family to lose weight, yet she thinks i should eat more and complains if i lose weight, was constantly complaining the whole time "how much weight are you going to lose. I think youve lost enough..." Things like that. and my brother even clearly trying to fatten me back up by buying junk food i used to eat and leaving it around the house. People can be very weird about food and their weight.

Same age group as Beard. I like corned beef and beetroot as well. You can also mix and match ham and cucumber with corned beef and beetroot. Ketchup and Quavers sounds gross. And I still vividly remember the Sunny D craze - it was THE drink all of a sudden when it first came out, and everyone at shcool was hooked on it. Then it started getting negative press and there were stories of people turning slightly orange, and suddenly the bubble popped and the market for it seemed to collapse. I'm glad they still make it, although I haven't had it in a while, and when I did it also didn't think it tasted like how I remembered it.
