I understand the rage he felt about the electric kettle. I didn’t get one until about 6 years ago and it’s been a game changer!They are just so damn convenient and way quicker than traditional boiling. I use mine year round, not just in the winter when I want hot beverages.

Going up in the US we've always had a kettle. I don't know why they're spreading the myth that kettles aren't the thing in the US. Having an electric kettle is even more convenient! It takes less time to boil and it frees up a burner on the stove.

Recently switched from electric to a stove top kettle but it's only worth it when you have a gas stove if you use a stove top on an electric stove it's going to be so slow. Electric kettles are the bomb though

As an American, I'm going to stan for electric kettles. They're so fast and convenient, I constantly use it to heat water extra, extra hot when I'm washing dishes by hand. (The dishes air-dry faster when they're rinsed in really hot water.)

Once I began using fresh bay leaf my opinion of the ancient herb went up enormously. It adds a fennel-ly essence. My grandmother always used it with beans, soup, and other foods to reduce digestive gas. It always seemed to make a difference.

Kettles and tea pots are not the same thing. The function of electric kettles are to boil water and do it much faster than a pot on a stove would. Most of the time it is used to make tea but you can also use it to boil water to cook with. Tea pots are simply a vessel in which you brew tea.

I most definitely do have an electric kettle. ^-^ All of the females in my family suddenly had an, 'Ah, I need one of those' moment several years ago, and we've each had once since. I adore mine. ...we three were equally sad that the gift possibility between us was remarkably snuffed out so suddenly and simultaneously. Tea lovers unfortunately think alike this this case. American pancakes are based on drop scones/Scottish pancakes. My great aunt seemed to be able to produce piles of hot fresh drop scones in the time it took to boil a kettle if you dropped 'round. Served with butter & slathered in home made raspberry jam. Plus you'd get a big bag of them yo take home. 🥞

Native Americans, like most nations had their own version of pancakes before Europeans turned up. & Yes the Dutch had a big influence on pancake eating in America. But if you look at cultural influences, recipes & the flow of people into the Americas, the Drop Scone/scotch pancake is much, much closer to the now standard American pancake. Whichever way you eat them they're all delicious 🥞

@@starofdabloc 😁Glad we have common ground. I've loved the Native versions I've tried...love food. Though I love Scottish drop scones/pancakes I'm a savoury fan. Have you had Chinese scallion pancakes/CONG YOU BING,/葱油饼? Got to be my favourite dish names "pancakes". If they weren't so fattening I think I'd eat nothing else for a week. Great to meet someone online who can meet in the middle. BTW, I'm on the East Coast of Scotland & we share a lot of food traditions & language with the Dutch & Frisii/Frisian. In some parts Frisian was as commonly spoken as English & Doric in the East until the 1800's.

As an Australia, I knew the moment they picked kedgeree that they were going to lose simply by virtue that I don't think Americans simply could compute that kind of dish for breakfast. Doubly so when Max couldn't eat the one with egg.

I'm a firm believer that the two most underused and underappreciated ingredients in cooking are bay leaf and anchovy paste. The difference they make can be so intense and , just tasting, you have no idea what it is, you just know it's better.

Bay leaf is underused because recipes call for one to three in a whole dish. Bay leaf is underappreciated because that never adds anything to the dish.

I have harvesting rights to branches on my side of the fence of the neighbor's bay laurel. Like rosemary, there's a significant difference between old and new leaves (it's a evergreen). Fresh is best!
