Many people may ask Why?. Why does Iceland eat this. Short answer is no!. Most people here don't eat it. Only a handful of people eat it once a year at Þorri. Most of the shark meat is exported to Japan.

Me personally. I have only tasted few of the old food the vikings used to eat. Some is good and some is awful to me. But a lot of people like it. So its hard to say if its good. You'd have to try it yourself when you come to Iceland :)

Ég elska Hákarl persónulega en ég gerði það ekki alltaf ég fékk mér alltaf smá af honum og byrjaði svo að venjast bragðinu og núna finnst mér hann mjög góður. hef samt ekki geta vanist síldinni en þá.

Why do Nordic cultures like to eat rotting shark and herring? Must be an acquired taste! I prefer not eating rotting anything. 😜
@Zoonjse5 жыл бұрын
Well, most don't. Its an old tradition. Back in the day there was not much option when it came to preserving food. Some were salted and some were buried, hence fermentation. Some people like it or pretend to like it. Now it's just a tradition. I dong't like it, and most people in Iceland do no eat this. I suppose it's the same story for Sweden and other Nordic countries.
