That’s a nice honest review about mostly unknown cuisines! Lovely ❤️ 10:20 you are having kind of “young Jack fruit” dish, in Sinhalese called “Herali Malluma - හෙරලි මැල්ලුම" Jack fruit (JF) is versatile and every stage of is life could be used and prepared in different manner and at the end once it’s ripe, a delicious fruit! - Baby JF - Polos - පොලොස් (Vegans Meat) - Young JF - Herali - හෙරලි l - Mature JF - Kos - කොස් - Ripped JF - Waraka/Wela (depend on the texture) - වරකා/වැල About the JF seed it’s a “Protein Nugget” and contains more protein/g than soya bean. Matured seeds are very nice to consumed either deep fried or roasted to have with. Sri Lankan has mastered various ways to preserve the JF, seeds and it’s another topic to discuss 😊 #visitsrilanka2022

There are several variations of kothu. Eg: string hopper , dolphin or cheese kothu. You need to add meet like chicken (bbq or roast or curry), beef, sea food to bring out more flavor. Also there is 1-2 eggs in a kothu.

3.56 this food is called as Ambarella in Sri Lanka (probably according to the way it looks like) . Its also known as June plum, golden apple . Scientific name - Spondias dulcis. And it usually tastes sour when its not ripen and when ripen it has a mixture of less sour and more sweet taste. You can eat it without cooking (with salt and sugar etc.) , specially when ripen.

You are correct. The left hand is the poop hand 😄😄😄. I applaud you for going local by eating with your bare fingers but there is a proper way to eating this way. 1. Don't let the food go pass the 2nd joint of your fingers. 2. Serve the rice first and then serve the curries around the top of the plate over the rice. 3. As someone already mentioned, we don't start eating from the middle of the plate. Start at the bottom of the plate closest to you and work your way up, taking a bit of the curries and mixing into the rice with each bite. Best wishes!

Just for your clarification, fried rice and koththu are like same, they are already mixed unlike rice and curry. When you are eating rice and curry you have to mix to get the richness of flavours. that cannot be achieve by mixing with a spoon. Thats why you need to eat rice and curry with hands (only because you need the full flavour, not rude if you eat with a spoon, but you'll miss the experience). koththu and fried rice are already mixed and there is need to involve your hands. So you can eat rice and koththu with spoon. You just made a fan from a one video! Super content, Continue the awesomeness.

you are making my mouth to salaivate with every mouthful. Pumpkin is one of my favourite vegetable and you can buy this variety in Asian supermarkets all year round. The halloween pumpkin has no flavour but at the same time you should be able to buy small gourds which can be cooked similar to a Sri Lankan curry. I always buy a few, cut into small cubes, blanch freeze and use in curries. The same can be done with Jak fruit as well. Enjoy!

I think the mango looking curry may have been a ‘golden apple’ curry. It’s popular in srilanka for cooking but also in the Caribbean, for making fresh juice. The pumpkin skin, it’s preference, you can either eat or not eat it, and you are not breaking any table etiquettes by eating it. The odd yellow mixture is a jackfruit + coconut salad (jackfruit mallum).

You gotta try proper Kotthu, try some from Pilawoos or New Plaza hotel in colombo, they’ve got the best Kotthu in colombo my opinion. Proper Kotthu is made directly on a gas flat grilling or griddle plate with two Kotthu paddles to toss and mix the Kotthu while the plate is blazing hot, which is what gives the Kotthu Umami, and a slight char or a golden brown color rather than looking plain and doughy. And the sound of cooks making Kotthu is annoying, when the Kotthu paddle hits the grill it makes a very distinct loud noise, but that’s how you know they’re making Kotthu the right way. Also the vegetables should be sautéed longer with msg or soy sauce. What you guys ate to me kind of look like a "Kotthu" style salad.

At 5.40 eating pumpkin skin is up to personal preference. But for sure that's purely edible. If you ask me I would eat the pumpkin skin as well as a Sri Lankan. But it's totally down to personal preference. cheers! Also using left had you a correct mostly. However, in certain situations, you can use your left hand together with a right hand to tear off small pieces (Roti, Bread etc), but taking food towards your mouth using your left hand is a big no-no!
