The best places are sometimes found by coincidence! When our car got a flat tire during a trip to Rizal, we stopped by at a restaurant next to the road which turned out to be a Filipino Bamboo Farm and we had a surprising experience with the Filipino Food we had there...
The restaurant we visited is:
📍Kawayan Farm Restaurant

That’s a stereotype. Not all Filipinos do the one leg up thing. Just the canto/street tambays do it. For some reason, I don’t get how that mannerism got attached to a whole swath of people in a country. Not every Filipino does that in the same way nor every Filipino eats balut.

That Bulalo looks so delicious. I almost reached into the screen to steal them off Mike. The meat looks like brisket. I bet the broth was yummy. Lumpia Sariwa (Fresh lumpia) from my region usually uses sliced turnips but the bamboo shoots sounds delicious too. It is true that lechon gets featured in vlogs a lot. In reality, it is only served at big occasions like Fiestas, birthdays, weddings. It is not part of regular daily dinners. My childhood meals in the farm consists of Sinigang, Tisola, Guisado, Kare-kare, Menudo and there's always a fish dish.

From the Ilocos region, in addition to the normal fare, here are dishes that have soup: 1. Dinengdeng, it's a combination of different vegetables boiled in water and fish sauce or salt optionally topped with grilled/fried fish/seafood. Flavor and taste varies depemding on the vegetable ingredients; could be savory, sweet, sour, bitter 2. Kaldo, basically pork or pork knuckles nilaga with vinegar. Different from sinigang which is also sour but with different sour ingredient. 3. Sinanglaw, it's a stew made with beef and beef innards. 4. Papaitan, beef or goat meat and innards, it's like a more exotic version of sinanglaw due to bitter ingredient, ex. bile. 5. Sinampalukan, goat meat stew with tamarind (sampalok). 6. Pinikpikan, banned due to method of preparation, it's only allowed in some parts of mountain province as a traditional food.

Try the Kapangpangang soup - bulanglang or sinigang sa bayabas ; replace tamarind with guava then add either shrimp, bangus, or pork with kangkong ( water spinach) or camote tops-- another one is misua sa patola with shrimp or alimasag ( crab) or minced pork

Nelly/Mike: Try to look for sinigang na bangus sa bayabas when you go to the province or restaurants. (Milkfish in guava soup.) Beef Pochero as well. (Beef broth like bulalo but with plantain). Highly recommended for your 2021 food trip.

For me fresh lumpia definitely tastes better and healthier than fried lumpia. I personally know a lot of foreigners who are vegetarians who just love fresh lumpia when they tried it during their vacation here in the Philippines.
