Even though you could meat I adapt my recipes and have made a lot of your veggie options, really enjoyed it!...when I saw this video I was really happy 😊...there are so many benefits to a whole food diet ....a year on I feel great...I have energy and my recent blood work has been spot on! I’ve been vegetarian my whole life, just a tip about the tofu the best brand to buy is “Tofoo” because it’s not full of moisture and the way to get it perfect is cook it in the pan in some olive oil then air fry it to crisp it up, it’s delicious like that :)
@lemonteapot106110 ай бұрын
Yes I like tofoo! I bought sainsburys own organic as it was on sale and froze it and despite squeezing the water out before I cooked it, it was like a sponge consistency 😵💫

I only eat chicken when it comes to meat - I do find it hard because I love animals. But my proviso is that I only buy organic or free range chicken - I’m not showing off or being a snob, I have a tiny budget - so yes more expensive but the meat is better quality and the animal had a good life before. I get a chicken from Riverford and it isn’t cheap but tastes so much better and one chicken goes for loads of meals. I’m not judging anyone but if people do care about the chicken but still want to eat it, it’s an option. And just eat chicken occasionally 🤗 xx

On the tofu, I find ripping it into chunks makes it more chicken like in texture and also if you coat it lightly in corn flour and airfry it before adding to your curry sauce makes them super crispy

Give the tofu a press to remove any water. Air fry is great for making it crispy. I recommend Beyond burgers. My favourite I gave to my meat eating friends and they didn't even realise it wasn't meat. Aldi Ultimate Plant Menu burgers are joint close second along with Coop Gro. Try cooking with more chickpeas, beans, pulses and lentils. Lentils are great for a bolognese and a shepherdless pie. Enjoy your veggie / vegan journey

Sophie airfry the tofu it’s great. I’m a vegan and it’s soooo easy and much cheaper. My Hubbie went vegan with me and it’s been fine. Although we eat mostly unprocessed food, processed as a treat such as the chicken alternative. I would say the dairy industry is so cruel if you could reduce dairy it would be great. My main reason is the animals. Well done x

Love this video! I'd you're looking for some veggie/vegan inspo for more meals I would recommend Ellen Fisher cause she makes really good whole food vegan recipes for a family on YT. I also enjoyed Fearne Cotton's vegan book cause it's not too complicated. A good tip for tofu is to toss it in cornflour before you fry it. It helps to crisp it up a bit more on the outside. Also tofu is good shredded for like tacos or as a shredded 'duck' in a stir fry. And Tesco used to do vegan halloumi (not sure if they still sell it but worth a look). x

This was interesting but avocados are not native to the UK. The food miles on them will be high. Are they any better for the environment than meat? This is a genuine question, as I don't know. Plus meat substitutes are heavily processed and again that will have an environmental impact. I think flexitarian is a good idea. When making tofu and haloumi and you want it crispy, it's good if you pat dry before cooking. Paneer would be great in that curry Xx

We enjoyed the no meat month but at the time we ate a lot of processed meat alternatives which were expensive and salty. We didn't stick to being veggie.....(bacon!) Hmm. I completely get what you are saying but you need to ensure you are eating enough protein. If you weigh say 67kg you need 67g of protein a day and that's before exercise. I am pescatarian ( previously vegan/veggie/flexi) and I struggle to meet my protein goals on the days I don't eat fish. You will lose muscle mass, you will age faster and heal more slowly. It's a shame but it's true. I couldn't stick with veganism as I have IBS and cannot eat the amount of beans, lentils, wholegrains etc no needed and have a comfortable life away from the toilet. Everybody's body needs different things but I would say proceed with caution. But meat, fish and eggs from organic, free range, etc sources and eat as much organic veg and fruit as you can.

I feel like forcing someone to be vegetarian after a week of “secretly” making only veggie/vegan meals isn’t the way to convince them to be honest. Suddenly deciding you’re a vegetarian/vegan family just because you like the idea but your partner isn’t completely on-board is just going to be a source of conflict for most people. Controlling what a person eats because of your preferences isn’t a good thing.

Think he is just being nice and supportive. Is he going to publicly on camera say anything bad about your cooking? Does not have to be everyday but humans are omnivores. They need animal products. Pescatarian diet is probably the healthiest. Should read up on what Steve Irwin had to say on the matter. He was omnivore.
