Thank you so much for making this inspiring video! I'm an occupational therapy student, and I found your experience really useful for helping me improve the activities of daily living for others who are also spinal cord injury patients.

you're right...i've got to start weaning myself off of those utensil holders...the white one was the best...got some of those beige ones and the opening started to curl back almost immediately making it difficult to insert handle

+Cra Pas Yes, I can use utensils easily now without utensil holders. I don't even have to think about it.

Thank you so much for this detailed and optimistic approach. MY husband has been a quad for 45 years and he uses utensils in a very similar way, but he holds the fork under three fingers instead of just the index finger. My brother-in-law is has a more recent SCI, and he's still figuring it all out. Your matter-of-fact practical approach is great. Keep up the good work.

The universal cuff I had didn't have a foam grip but I wound up with adaptive spoon and fork with a plastic coated metal band I slide my hand into with the spoon/fork extending at a 90° angle from the palm

@Mason Ellis you're welcome , they keep recommending videos from you so I'll keep watching! When you gonna do a new one? You do very good videos. Do you cook? I need some new recipes hehe. My bf cooks he's a paraplegic, I told him he needs to make some videos cause he's really good at it and positive. Maybe he will one day. 😃

Awesome! Haha I've had an increase in views this last month for some reason, so maybe that's why. I don't really cook because my kitchen isn't too accessible. Yes, he should make videos!

Bravo, Mason! ...we're so much the same and lots of others. Who, wishes to stand-out while dining out more than the wheelchair does already! ...a funny story I'll share another time. Creative with the knives! Might mention a rubber- abrasive place-mat prevents the plate from moving. You're sitting at a nice chair to kitchen table floor to seat height (ftsh) in your C300, I'm presuming. The day you chose a higher ftsh with a M5/F5 or other brand, getting a little higher (multiple power-seating/ elevator) presents dining-out challenges. I encourage the powerful electronics (120amps/ grp 24 batteries and your preferred power add-ons and look forward to my pending elevator addition for the obvious. Yet, I'm aiming at my 1st lowered floor 'mini-van' conversion which creates a little problem driving from the whlchair due to weight. The next power chair; 420 + 183lbs (me) reflect how heavy add-ons will impact the mini-van choice as this much weight causes a little 'leaning' when riding or driving front cab area. Pre-mature tire wear, steering and suspension issues can be factored in; no alignment can adequately address this issue as well. My '95 E350 (268,000mi) has a six way power seat system that allowed me to transfer to driver seat using manual/ electric wo problems. Now, after post-injury accident cracked three vertebrae w bulging disc confine me to power chairs and qstrants/ shoulder/ lap belt make me a secured passenger. I love your work, Mason, and look forward to seeing every video you've made! Super-inspiring! Van?

Suggests lowered floor...looking at a 2014 Braun lowered. The cabs in Phoenix are all Siennas, lots of miles wo problems Presuming EZ lock. Great choice! I have a set of hand controls in the garage your welcome to; shipping on you.

Great! I think these are CME brand (close but not positive) but, the best are 'Monarch'. VR in IN will pay for the less expensive brand, but, they will buy Monarch if you pay the difference. Monarch are lifer's with replaceable wear components. Good stuff!

Hi Ellis. I'm working in a rehab center in India. I do see alot cervical sci pts however, over here we face shortage of OTs or hand specialists coz of that ADL training is a struggle. I been watching ur videos n suggesting it to my pts its been really insightful to train them accordingly. I would also like to request if possible please make an updated version if you have made any changes on ur utensils usage. Thank you once again. Love from India ❤️

I haven't tried your method of holding utensils between your fingers like that. I'm definitely going to try it in the future. I generally just use a special built up fork because I have a very good set and I almost always have it with me. I'm six years in and I still haven't quite figured out how to cut which is rather frustrating. At one point in the video I see you drop some things. I'd like to see how you deal with picking things up from the floor when you are a motorised chair. The grabber I use is very limited.

LoL. So, i'm sitting here at home in freezing cold Ct. (17 degrees today) , taking a break from working (trading stocks for myself ...you ever buy any stocks Mason? ) and the market is kinda slow today being a freezing friday and all so i decide to watch a couple of your old videos and came across this one. I get to the part about the terrible tough broccoli at your rehab place and RIGHT AFTER THAT...and i mean in seconds...the video cuts out and on comes an add for....Hello Fresh Broccoli. Totally serious ! HAHA! Crazy youtube/google algorhythm stuff going on here. Anyways..i'm easy amused today i guess and thought you should know that hello fresh is the place to get your broccoli. 🥦 Anyways, hope you're doing good Mason. Stay positive !

That's hilarious and scary at the same time! Haha Yes, I love investing and learning about the stock market! I actually bought some shares of Shopify this morning. What stocks are you looking into? I appreciate you watching my videos!
@RJ4O4 Жыл бұрын
@@masonx54 It IS scary. they're watching everything like a hawk. i notice it more and more and even things i see on my facebook feed are related to things i might have watched on youtube or some random product i looked at. Its Like SKYNET from the terminator Mason. Coming into being ! :) As for stocks i'm buying.... recently i've been buying ticker symbol JD. Its a chinese company and basically the #2 ecommerce site in china doing what amazon does here mostly. i bought it down here (lower 20's a share ) the last time it was down here and it ran to about 90. I got out in the 40's never expecting that . Anyways, its back in the low 20s again so im averaging in now. Ecommerce is getting more competitive though there so i'm not expecting the same result. But, seems cheap and it pays a 2% + dividend. Other than that, i'm pretty much out of most of my stocks. The overall market has just gotten too high i think. Most of my $$ i now have in CD's. after they went over 5% returns it was a 100% guaranteed place to be. Other than that let me give you a couple ticker symbols. OEF and EQWL . I would not buy them now given how high the market is but if i was your age and back at that point in my life, i'd be watching them for a market pullback. Both of those arent individual stocks but rather are comprised of the top 100 U.S. companies in one fund. So, virtually, every winning company there ever has been.its in there. The difference between them is OEF is the more popular one and they heavier weight some of the big names vs others. EQWL is a pure play... 1% each of the top 100 Companies. If you research them you'll see that their returns beat most mutual funds and are about halfway to even what Warren Buffett has made over the years. I dont give investment advice but can say that if i was going to start all over again and was in my 20's..id watch for a pullback then just weekly average into them. Its really a lifelong thing i think to be in. And much safer than buying individual stocks overall. look them up under their ticker symbols and look over their websites. And again..i wouldnt buy them today because of the market levels but down the road if there's ever a significant overall pullback. Other than that, have fun ! And if you ever want to talk stocks shoot me a message here. :) And i'll watch shop and you can watch Jd and we'll see how we do. :)
