Nutritionists/dietitians may be underrated but they are health experts in their own right. Not many physicians are well-educated in nutrition. I'm a male registered nurse but I aspire to become a registered dietitian/nutritionist in the future if given the chance. I think that as an analytical introvert, this profession is more suited for me.

Hi. I still haven't got the chance but I'm still considering it. I've always been interested if not passionate about food and fitness.

I'm studying dietetics and food service management and was a bit demotivated seeing so less number of males in this profession at the start, but now I feel like, actually, nutrition and dietetics education are human needs and need not to be gender oriented. Yes, during my hospital training, I found it a bit embarrassing getting inside gynecology wards, but as with time I accepted it, I saw the patients welcomed it easily too. So, I understood that, to see the change on a big scale, we need to bring in small changes. Also true, there are more recruiters who search for female candidates in this field, but being a male, I feel I have greater odds of getting jobs suitable for me as well. In the next 6 months, I will be completing my Master's in this field along with my 2nd internship and hoping to be useful in this field.. 😊

Anyone would trust a dietitian with a name like Long Wang lol

You would think there would be more Asian males in dietetics, since a lot of Asians tend to eat healthy.

It's heavily female dominated because of the way the interviews work at Universities. They ask questions which are looking for female dominated traits, and thus, mostly only gay men get in. Straight men are turned away "not sensitive enough" "not caring enough" "never worked in another female dominated role before" and so on... You could argue that you need those traits to do this job and others argue that it is a sexist field, designed to push the majority of males away. The department was given to women back in the 1920's and the first dietetics school in 1930's was only accepting nurses and others with qualifications in female domestic sciences (cookery, sewing, and other household skills). This has subtly continued into the 21st century, where at interviews men are being turned away. My friend had to pretend he was a care assistant to get into dietetics when his only experience was as a car mechanic!. He graduated with the highest marks and is now a fantastic dietitian and his department are glad to have a man around. If he had said he was a car mechanic, they would have turned him away (they almost did until he lied). The way they teach dietetics too at University is suited for females, mostly taught by females. And you people wonder why men aren't in this field. Men love food, the best chefs are men, we love nutrition, we love sports and health. There should be no reason as to why men aren't in this field.

That's a very smooth-brained take. Whether you are the correct fit for the job has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with your personality, skills and work ethic.
@exposed47633 жыл бұрын
@@mattnicholson Smooth-brained take? What does that mean? Are you calling me an idiot? It has everything to do with gender. Plenty of men are going to these interviews, that's not the issue. Only very few men are getting on to these courses. How is that not a gender issue? The interviews need to be changed and they should always have a male and a female at the interviews rather than just women. The courses need at least 50% of men teaching too and helping with structuring the course.
