Pocky (from Japan) was created first, pepero (from S-Korea) was created second but got more popular and created "pepero day." In retaliation Pocky created "Pocky day" on 11.11. In n-california at least, pocky is more popular and no one really knows what pepero is.

Pepero stick manufacturers are sure to have great income. But its not only during Pepero day, in fact pepero sticks are a big hit all year round. I also stuffed my face with a lot of pepero sticks when I was in Seoul, South Korea

In China, 11.11 is #Single# Day because the shape '1' means single and four '1' s means extremely single and alone. So this is usually a day of celebration for people who don't have a girlfriend or boyfriend, and couples are usually shooed if they display affection of each other publicly. LOL

@simonandmartina well you guys forgot one thing: ppl also make their own pepero. there are thousands of recipes online for how to make your own unique pepero, and a lot of older teens make them for their boy/girlfriends

@mintteu2 they're different things. pepero is a korean adaptation of pocky (since the company that made pepero is Lotte, and the president of the company is a Korean immigrant who lives in Japan, and the company originated in Japan) pepero and pocky taste different (pocky tastes buttery and creamy and pepero is more crunchy and less buttery tasting .)

Pocky is the original, it's a product from the Japanese company, Glico. It's very popular and so it's also sold in America, but it's definitely not American. And Pepero was inspired by Pocky.

@ahoyaudibear no no pocky is the japanese version and pepero is the korean version. they're a bit different.... pepero are a tiny bit fatter lol. where I live you can find both easily.

Pepero and Pocky have two different tastes, so they aren't copied from Japan or Korea. They just look similar (btw, the original look/candy is from Europe, not Japan). Pocky is a bit more buttery than Pepero (as in the regualar biscuit part),where as Pepero is a bit more... pretzel-like tasting... (it's hard to explain XD) I find that the chocolate on Pepero is more rich than on Pocky also. Pepero comes in a lot of flavors too (like Pocky), but they have different tastes. See the difference?

The original just tastes like the chocolate Pocky and the almond Pepero is really good c:. They sell it in Canada for $4-5 (since it comes in like a some sort of case thing, like jelly straws and there's 5 packs of them)

Mikado is made by the same company(Glico) as Pocky. While Pepero is the the competitor version from the company "Lotte Confectionery". It's sort of like Pocky is Pepsi and Pepero is Coke.

I've tasted both pepero and pocky(aka glico)... Pocky is more common in my country though. Since I live somewhere in south east asia, you can get this kind of thing anywhere, even at the pharmacy or the local snack shop. I grew up eating pocky... So i only knew of this 'pepero' a few yrs ago. Those asians out there, you prob shld know bout 'yan yan' too. Its so friggin awesome, hahaha. I ate it more often than pocky even:D

@melonbarmonster well apparently the ppl who made that translation don't know how romanization, or the Korean language works. jae and chae are different sounds and letters in Korea. it's really stupid to get that kind of words mixed up. ask any Korean about this and they'll tell you that Chaebul doesn't refer to a conglomerate, but a physical discipline held at schools or social organizations
