We felt kinda homesick when we were in Canada. Yes, we missed Korea! So we went to Toronto's Koreatowns and made some movies of what they have to offer. If you're about to move to Korea, or just miss Korea, then Toronto's Koreatowns have just about all you need.
Shot with a Canon 550d, 50mm lens, and a Tokina 11-16 lens as well. Edited in Final Cut Pro. Music made in Garageband.

+Just Comment But Koreatown has been around for a very, very long time, too bad Morning Glory moved a few years ago, Mr. Pen is there now and it's good but not as awesome. You'll have fun, there's lots of food stores and places to eat :)

I love the Koreatown on Christie and Bloor. Morning Glory was my jam in high school! So many cute things. (And yes, I will destroy my paycheque there.)

Toronto's K-town is 3rd largest after New York and LA. I visited all K-towns in major cities in US & Canada - New York, LA, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Toronto, Vancouver, etc. Many of my family / relatives live in US and I lived in Boston before. TO's K-town is definitely one of the biggest. It's not just Yonge&Finch. From Sheppard to Steels along Yonge St, there are a lot of Korean shops, restaurant, supermarket, bars, karaoke, pubs, beauty shops etc spans like 2 to 3 kilometers. Its only LA where you can see so many Korean shops after shops in one stretch. Then TO's got another K-town in Christie too. The most surprising thing to me is that no where in US, I never felt the Korean vibe as much as I was in TO. Sure LA's K-town is bigger, but Yonge and Finch is the only place out of all cities in US & Canada, that I feel like I am actually in Korea. 5 out of 10 people on streets are Koreans and 2 out of those remaining 5 are Chinese. LA's K-town is all Mexicans and blacks and mostly empty streets whereas everywhere in Seoul is really packed and Yonge/Finch gives you such vibe somewhat. Its the density of Koreans hanging around the neighbor. No where in the US, you can find such density or vibe as much in one spot. Now TO has two H-mart in downtown. There are no such US cities that has two in downtown core. Let alone the H-mart, Chicago doesnt even have a single Korean restaurant in downtown Loop / M-mile. Boston has only one H mart and its located in Cambridge outside Boston. Now Willowdale North York has MPP is also Korean. This is crazy. Am I actually in Korea? I never feel homesick. TO definitely has become my second home outside the country. This is IT. Truly the best of both worlds - Korea and North America. (TO feels like US unlike other Canadian cities)

Wow solid comment! Thank you for sharing your perspective! We also felt like North York K-town and Christie K-Town have a more packed together, walkable Seoul-like quality, as opposed to LA where you have to drive around everywhere. Fun fact, Simon used to work in North York K-town and that’s how we got into Korean food before moving to Korea. We can always trust Toronto for legit food 😋

if anyone is watching this in 2016 there's not a lot of in the ways of kpop or korean stores in general. you have Sarah and Tom's witch is a must but if you see in the coments below of a music store they closed down not long ago. but sarah and toms is a must! who know's you mite end up seeing Zelo there. this is an outdated video, but have fun exploring!

@JuiicyCouture To be totally honest, we've had the same experience in Korea because the concept of "vegetarian" and "allergies" is really foreign to them. My vegetarian friend order vegetarian dishes but they'd come with shrimp or fake crab in them and they'd be like, "it's not meat, right?". Having food specifications in Korea is REALLY difficult to live with so it's not just that one store. If you come to Korea, be careful!

Where in America? if you're saying USA, New Jersey got a pretty large concentration of Korean in Fort Lee and Palisade, they actually got parking signs in Korean and a very big supermarket near the Washington Bridge and table BBQ restaurants, there is a restaurant with just Korean letters that even the open sign is in Korean. I would say 75-80% of the people in these 2 towns are Koreans.

My university is 40% Asian (that's a lot considering I came from an almost all white school) and it's near places that have a lot of Asian restaurants and markets. I am so excited! It probably won't be as cool as the Koreatowns in Toronto, but it's something.

Have you guys been to the one in NYC? I went there when I was on a ministry and I hung out with a group of Korean friends. When we were allowed to walk around and find places to go eat I let them pick and they chose the most fantastic restaurants (they also taught me how to eat with chopsticks)! I would really love to go back someday just to visit on my own time and eat that delicious food again

Have you guys been to Korean Grill House which is a popular chain in Toronto? One of my favorite places for Korean food is Owl of Minerva in Spadina Chinatown (Yes, korean restaurant in chinatown) It is so good and there is karaoke right across from it (I haven't been to the karaoke). And the restaurant is open till 4am or something so its a great place to go after a night on the town!

You can buy kpop stuff at the Christie Koreatown, just walk down the LEFT side and there should be like two stores that sell it. They have signs that say "Korean CDs" and they'll have some kpop posters posted on their windows. I prefer to go to the Jong Ro (I think that was it) which is a bit further down the first CD store. He has a sign, you won't miss it :P
