After the dyno session snapped the rod on cylinder 4 because of too much boost. We put the 3rd d17 in the eBay civic. This will be the last stock engine before we fully build it.

It’s pretty cheap to build d17 I have d17a1 fully built 16psi and it was relatively inexpensive and it would easily hold 20-25psi but 16psi is more than enough to race 10 speed mustangs and win

Get your a a2 vtec head and ecu . Ported performance cams pistons rods . I would recommend a full rebuild before boost . From my experience

Just got me a 01 Civic ex coupe with 98k miles and it has a D17a came with a blues cold air intake AEM system . All stock , definitely watching your videos I need to swap out this intake manifold

King Bearings are not bad, but used OEM bearings with less than 200K, last longer than King or ACl. I always reuse my OEM bearings and I have put over 300K miles on non boosted K20's and K24's. My buddies go through two motors a year and I'm on my same one from ten years ago.

I know this is old, but curious how long did it last running like this? Or did u change internals before it blew? Did u run it on 10lb boost for awhile and it was good? Curious bc I plan on building one I wanna know how stock head block an internals will hold up being boosted

Besides Hondata and using an adjustable cam gear, what piggy back or standalone system could you use for engine management that doesn’t involve replacing the cam gear? I’m looking to boost my em2 to get at least 180-200 whp from 7-10 psi if possible, just want the A/F ratio to be on point. Also, what injector upgrade would you recommend for that moderate increase in power?

A lot more people can relate to this. But will not measuring main bearing clearances screw you over? It’s a guesstimate at best.

I got mad at mine and unplugged the waste get and made like 18 pounds of boost. fuck the d17 I hate that motor with a passion. But I still have arp head studs and rods with arp bolt if you are local

I beg to differ. In my personal experience I ran a JDM D15B VTEC with an eBay turbo kit on a professionally tuned map and on 10 psi on my daily I drove for almost 25k miles with 0 issues. That was with revving the stock engine to 9k rpm at times, drag racing it at the track, beating the hell out of it at times, and when I pulled the D15B to swap to a B series, I sold it to my buddy who put it in his EJ1 and daily drove it boosted on 10 psi for another 30k miles without issue. Really, as long as you start with a good engine that has good bearings, good compression, and you have a good tune, it'll last as long as you want it to. That single cam was finally blown up by a douche who decided to get greedy and turn the boost up to 20 psi on the same stock internals.

Let me fix that for you...D Series STOCK with boost and daily driving don't mix well. If you build it from the crank up its not a issue running even 30 psi. Question is do you have the time and money and (very helpful) a second engine to build while you daily your STOCK engine. Any engine that has enough aftermarket support can be built to have high PSI AND daily drive it. You figure a regular ol 2020 sports/muscle car is around 30k for a decent one. I put 8k in my car and can whoop you like no tomorrow. If you want to make your expensive sports/muscle car faster usually you'll have to boost it especially V8 platforms. Your talking for a good RELIABLE kit 10K MIN. that's without your tune, suspension, wheels, tint, body kit parts ,aftermarket lights ETC now your talking 20 k on top of the 30k you owe. Anyone trying to build there "little piece of shit Honda" DO IT! Yall know what it is...

Typical for hondas safe is to stay 10psi or less

Ive done mod on my d17 with a d16 y8 manifold the iac valve control make the check light come on and it is idling high it has the ek trottle body need sum tip on what to do to fix it......iwatch u all the time i see u did it and never had a problem

All dynos read different but 200hp is a good guess it's feels strong the clutch and tires can't take it

No the 01-05 civic uses shift cables the older civics use a bar

I thought it's port or shim. Shim for pressure or port for Volume right? Wouldn't doing both be like advanceing fuel, spark, and cam? Lol as in cancel each other out?? Or am I wayyy off base not a mechanic or anything 🤔

Do u know how to delete the egr in the ecu? I dont need egr in my d17 hehe... U should try doctronic.at ecu for d17 engine..only change the ecu and u dont need some extra tools like cam gear or sensors. Its in a k series ecu.

I have an important question my brother i know hondas 01 to 05 are almost the same. Can i slap a d17a2 block with a d17a1 head? Without an issue long story short bought a car with bad rods and got a spare vtec engine but its to sell only will it fit ? D17a1 a 05 and d17a2 is an 05 automatic both.

The heads and blocks are jnterchangeable between the a1 and a2. a2 head contains the vtec cams but block is the same
