eBay Shipping Tutorial! Everything you need to know!

Here's my video on how to ship out items on eBay. It includes detailed information about all shipping options.
Please note these 3 things when watching.
1. I do not do free shipping. Buyers pay for shipping.
2. If the package is going USPS Media Mail or USPS First Class Package, I do same cost to all locations because I know what it will cost.
3. If the package weighs more than 1 pound I do calculated shipping. I give the buyer the option of having me ship it USPS, FEDEX or UPS.

Thank you for making the very informative charts. This is a good video for the new resellers out there. Question, when listing an item that would ship dimensional and you plug in the actual weight and the actual dimensions, will calculated shipping figure out the correct amounts or do we need to do the steps you did for figuring out adjusted weight? I usually only ship smaller items but it is good information to know just in case. Thank you again for this video.

Thanks for asking and that's a very good question. Like you, I do not normally ship out oversized packages that end up being dimensional weight. When I know it is going to be dimensional, I estimate the price and do same price to all locations, usually FEDEX. Sometimes I lose a little money in shipping, but, that's ok. Just a note. When I list an item that I know is not oversized and do calculated shipping, I only put in the weight and not the dimensions. It's not necessary to do so. Thanks for watching.,

Thanks for watching. Good question. Of course, as the zones are further away, it's more expensive. I do calculated shipping for items over 1 lb. For first class I just pick an amount somewhere in between. So,, if it ships to California, I may lose a little. If it ships to Alabama, I may make a little. It all comes out in the wash.

Do you sell the reference charts you have on cost of selling an item. Really, very helpful. A lot a times I was charged for not charging enough shipping which certainly, cut into my profits. Now I know why.

Thanks for watching. When I list an item I select calculated shipping. So when the buyer goes to pay, eBay charges him the shipping rate depending on where he lives.

I'm just what eBay considers "above average" seller I do not do "free shipping" as we all know that it is just inflated into the purchase price and I do not do free returns as that just invites trouble Guess just depends on what you sell ....I'm happy with being "above average" as I believe the badge of Top Rated Seller or TRS does not bring extra value Just my opinion Thanks for the shipping info!

Although I'm "Above average" I still ship same day or next day, I just cannot mathematically the advantage of being TRS. I honestly from me and other sellers I talk to for a buywe a TRS means nothing, it is the price that matters to them again I wish all sellers the best on eBay and not meaning anything bad, just wondering your thoughts

Well, if I do the math, say $50,000 in sales at 12% fee, that's $6000, so with a 10% discount I save $600. Not a lot, but, it helps. As far as for scanning. The postman picks up at my office and he scans the packages. I understand the buyer may not care if you're a top-rated seller, but, ebay does. I'm pretty sure if me and you are selling the same item, my will show ahead of yours.

Thanks for asking and thanks for watching. Yes, I have best offer on every one of my items. I do not do promoted listings. I have experimented with it over the years, and I have found there is no direct correlation with promoting my listing and increased sales. I'm a top rated seller who gets a discount on my final value fees, and I still feel I'm paying a little bit more than I'd like to in eBay fees. I certainly don't want to pay more by doing promoted listings. I have a 60-day return policy no questions asked.

I'm new to being a seller on eBay and I'm confused on how to estimate shipping when I list the product. I don't know who will buy it and where they live, so how can I accurately list a shipping price that the buyer will pay? Help! Thanks.

Thanks for watching and thanks for asking. Do not put a shipping price. Do calculated shipping instead.. All you have to do is put in the weight. You do not have to put in the measurements unless it's a huge box and is more than 1,728 in total, which is 12x12x12. EBay will calculate the shipping charge to the buyer depending on where they live. The only time you should put in an actual shipping charge is when it weighs less than 1 lb, are is an oversized box like I mentioned earlier. I hope this helps.

I wish you knew about calculated shipping for larger packages I have gotten so many different advices on this I am so confused

Whatt you need to know about larger packages is, once they are over a certain size, for USPS it is 12x12x12, you will be charged a dimensional weight, not the actual weight of the package. So, if a 2 lb item is put in a package larger than that. You may be charged for as much as a 10 to 12 pound item. There are dimensional weight calculators on line. I hope this helps.

@@therefinedreseller275 I am going to try and break it down and simplify this problem. I have been and Ebayer for a long time mostly buying not selling. Back in the day when shipping was cheaper they used to only charge fees for the bid amount and then they got greedy and nailed you for the bid and the shipping total. I used to just guess a mate for shipping and did alright most of the time. Well last year I did that again and I lost money on both items and Ebay fees went way up from what they used to be . I way under bid the shipping it nailed me to the wall. So with the higher fees and higher shipping I quit selling So here a while back I talked to a seller I bought an item from about the huge fee jack up and the shipping I showed him the two items I sold, He suggested that I buy a scale and do calculated shipping . They way he told me it worked is you weigh the item when you go to post the item and measure everything add the box and packing materials and put that in the calcuated shipping option . He said when the seller bids and wins the auction the seller puts in his zip and ebay calculates the shipping and adds it on the bid amount when he wins the auction.Because I dont know whom ever buys it where they are going to be. Part of that loss I took was because of the distant for shipping. So I took his advice bought a scale that measures up to 110 lbs . I went in last weekend and posted some Toyota shop manual there are three manuals and they are very heavy . I also put in a boat part for another auction. The shipping on the manuals I would say is going to be at least $35.00 the shipping on the boat part between $30.00 to 35.00 so I weighed both of them with packing materials and measured the boxes and put in the measurements on both auctions . Sending USPS for shipper. Ebay excepted it as calculated shipping that I submitted and I never put any amount for shipping at all. I just figured who ever won the auction Ebay would give them the shipping amount for where they live in. Ok well I woke up on Monday to check my auctions and ebay slapped me $9.71 shipping for the shop manuals and $7.71 for the boat part and it said economy shipping , I NEVER PUT THOSE AMOUNTS IN! I hurried and pulled both auctions I dont understand this why would Ebay slap me with these very low amounts for shipping that I did not put in for shipping? Again I just put in the weight and size with the shipping materials . So this is why I am so confused ? If somebody in California bids and wins that shipping is going to be cheaper than somebody in FL so why did Ebay do this to me and put in Fictiouse shipping amounts that I never put in . I hope this is not confusing ? I have no clue what to do now I just want to do calcuated nothing else I have the boxes and packing material ready but now I cant post until figure this out. Please dont ad other shipping options I had a woman do that do me and she blew me out of the water I was so confused after she got off the rail and threw random shipping options at me , I was totally lost . I bought the scale and just want to do Calculated most of the stuff I have is going to be heavy Thank you.

If you look at my reply I pulled both items off the auction. on Monday because Ebay slapped me two fictitious , very low shipping charges that I did not place on my auctions. If I would of left the two auctions up and sold them I probably would of lost at least $70.00 in shipping charges for both items. As you can tell this is very confusing and I cant even put anymore items up until I get this figured out. Thank you for your help 🙂
