Thanks for showing these, I've been planning to install one of these on my boiler control box so I can see the draw and voltage of my transformer at a glance. I'm a service plumber and I work on heating boilers all the time. My #1 check on a service call is to check for proper voltage and current draw at the transformer('s). I wouldn't install this for a customer due to risk exposure, but it would sure be nice on my system. I've also been looking at the round button style due to the fact that they can fit into a knockout without case modification. Thanks again for demonstrating this, you answered some of my questions. I know this was an older video but it still applies today!

I bought some of these for a custom power panel I built for my RV trailer. For the AC I ordered one of the bigger DIN rail mounted ones like Big Clive reviewed and ordered these smaller ones for the DC side (battery, charger and solar panels) of the system. It all works nicely and I even implemented an arduino based controller that will send data via wifi to my computer or smartphone if a circuit trips or just to stream live power usage..

Bought some of these and spent forever looking for videos with info on hooking them up. Never found anything for this style meter. Finally got it to work by trial and error. FINALLY a video on the damn things. I find it ridiculous that the Chinese child labor techs don't include a diagram for their convoluted, commie, mostly fire hazard electronics very often. Maybe it slips their memory with the 16 hour work days and all. I am happy to pay more and buy American whenever practical, or at least from a US supplier I can actually contact. 'Merica

Fell foul of one of these only yesterday, big poof of smoke! One side of the ammeter being connected to the 0V of the power in, it has to be wired as you say. I.e. current measurement after the load, referenced to 0V. Totally impractical for the application i purchased it for, which was to keep an eye on in tank fuel pump current draw (the pumps ground wire disappears into the loom to where i don't know). Have wondered if a little 1W isolated dc-dc converter to power the meter would get around this. But surely loosing true 0v reference would lead to no or inaccurate voltage measurements. Great video.

Hello - I started watching your channel a few weeks back and have subscribed, and now that im old broke and retired and seeing all the great new (cheap!) beginner kits and modules available now, ive decided to start beginner electronics as a hobby with breadboard, stock of cheap asian components, kit build, fresh multimeter collection, etc.-lol-after seeing your AN8008 review I bought it then later the updated AN8009, and wow these little guys have great functionality and accuracy for the money-! The 8009 has some minor changes, temp. function in place of square wave and the addition of the NCV feature among others. I built some kits back in high school many years ago but that was a loong time ago. Anyway, I already know how to solder so my first kit project is the 0 - 30 volt power supply kit you built in a recent video for giveaway, it will make a good basic supply for my beginner benchwork and be a useful item instead of some pointless blinky light siren gadget. The issue im having is I ordered the 0 - 33volt / 3amp red/blue LED display with built in current shunt to monitor both voltage and amperage variation using two upgraded 10K precision ten turn pots to control the power supplies output and show readings on the LED panel - but I wasnt sure this wiring schematic you gave here would be the same for my version of this LED readout. I need a clearer understanding on just how to wire the darn P-Sup and LED panel from a single power source (24 volt transformer) and there are so many variations on the net that dont all wire the same it appears. The 0 - 33 volt / 3A LED display I chose unlike yours does not have the "V" and "A" printed on front right, and it has a built in shunt, one plug with red black and yellow (thin) wires, and the other plug with two (thick) red and black wires. If you can spare the time for an old duffer I would appreciate it, I have a brand new (RIB TR75VA001) 120v / 24 volt / 3.1amp AC power transformer to power the whole thing from one source to hopefully give max available output from the PS. I just want to be able to use this led panel (or one like it) to monitor the power supply kits volt and amp output. I have considered maybe I should have gotten the 100volt/10amp led panel like yours instead-?? Is there a different diagram for my particular situation-? Thanks again so much for any help - - I tried to copy and paste the link to the ebay page I got the display from but YT of course wont allow it.... Thanks again, really liking your videos.

One of the things you didn't mention that you did, but that makes a big difference: if you're sharing a supply with the load do NOT hook up the thin black wire. If you do the current reading will be off by about 30%. I was pulling my non-existent hair out trying to figure out why my bench power supply would show 0.20A, and the meter would show 0.27A. If you use it with an independent power supply then you connect red and black thin wires to that.

It's been 3 years since this video was posted and you can still find these things on eBay! It's probably a better idea to run it from a separate power supply if possible, I have some of these that I'm planning to use on a project soon, I'm wondering what their power consumption is so that maybe I can figure out a way to power them but not from the load battery. I'm also wondering how much current it could take before going into meltdown, actually I'm going to have a look on eBay for other current sense resistors to replace the one fitted if it's just not enough for what I need it for! Great video!

I have a model railroad that uses dcc. I don't know if you are familiar. I have a controller that has a 12v dc power supply, the controller output is 12 to 14 volts that voltage is supplied to my track. So if bought one of these, im not sure how I would hook it up exactly to read volts and amps from my track.

Man, I was so close to throwing this cheap thing away, until I found out it had adjusters for the inaccurate volts and amps readings. Quick question: if I use this in an older transformer & rectifier style car battery charger, will the voltage ripples affect the reading from this panel gauge? Is there anything I could do to overcome that without affecting the battery charging, such as adding a filtering capacitor to the panel meter?

So I am doing a 40v power supply. Seeing as though the meter can’t handle that. I was dropping the voltage with dual resistors or voltage divider as I should call it. Is that going to effect anything going from meter - divider - load+. Thanks for any insight. Love the channel thank you. I should also add I’m using a lm317 to variate the voltage. Where would you plug that in.

I have a simple set up, a 200 watts wind turbine, the regulator that comes with the turbine, two 6v batteries in series to get 12volts, and a power inverter charge controller that connects to the batteries with small jumper cables that come with the inverter. My question is how do I connect my similar looking volt amp meter to keep track of the battery voltage and the amount of amps the inverter is using? I don't know if a shunt is necessary, but I do have one.

Nice tutorial you have, covers most of what you can do with it. the display can function with or without power source depending on how you set it up. a question though: what do you call that white plastic the light automotive bulb is placed on? looks way more convenient than just tying wires together.

at 6:11 you stated the panel meter read .43mA vs .469mA that the psu was showing, implying a difference of only about 4mA between the two. In actuality the meter is reading out in amps, not milliamps so the comparison is between 469mA on one vs 430mA on the other, a difference of about 40mA. That's nearly a 10% discrepency , which is what I am seeing in my own testing of these units. Personally I was a little disappointed in how inaccurate the current readings are, even despite their low cost. The three I have all are showing the same behavior, so they do appear to be consistent from unit to unit.

I see that the issue was already mentioned once I read further down the comments, as Maxwell Smart was fond of saying....sorry about that :) I also reworked my test setup , using a separate 9V (isolated) supply for the panel meter itself & the results are much more to my liking. The discrepancy between my bench ammeter & the panel meter now only around 2%, more than acceptable imo considering the cost tradeoff.

Per my diatribe below, does it require a different diagram to use this display with the bangood power supply kit you built-? Seems like it might not power the display from zero output, do I have to hook the led panel up separately to my transformer power source instead of the power supply boards output or--???? Thanks, Mike

I want to measure down to 1 volt and need to separate the measuring part and LED's and the actual input pin to the voltmeter. Where and how can I separate these two lines?

Hello, how would you go about wiring the ebay red & blue panel meter so that with a 24 volt power source to be able to show the voltage from the 24 volt power source But also show the load from the same 24 volt battery?
