Who else opened the fall of the samurai campaign menu to listen to this music? It's so good.

I do that a lot; open FotS and just quietly listen to this song before playing. It's quite a song, to say the least

When listening to this piece, I always imagine a tranquil Japanese town in peacetime. Black ships start rolling in the background, and the landscape begins to change frame by frame: telegraph wires appear, new buildings rise and old dissapear, railway is being constructed and shops are filled with foreign goods. By the time black ships roll by, there stands the same town, just as peaceful and tranquil, but modern and westernised.

Westernized. More like civilized. Gosh I wish I could have been a European in the late 19th century participating in stuff like forcing Japan open, bring Qing China to its knees, or the scramble for Africa.
@WelkinMason
@WelkinMason Ай бұрын
But during the swift from tradition to modern, blood and tears were shed. Alongside the construction of a westernized Japan, ideas and ideas were ignited and were thrown into conflicts. I think that's more like the picture of Japan at that time, which is why the tune of the music is also slightly imbuded with sadness.

@@WelkinMason Sort of true but historically the Boshin war was actually rather bloodless compared to other revolutions, even including the satsuma rebellion 10 years later. In most total war games the scale of the fighting and casualties are much lower in game compared to reality, but in Shogun 2 FOTS the casualties in a typical campaign way exceed the deaths that actually occurred, hell you can get more deaths in a single battle in FOTS than in the whole real war.

This song really captures the epic feeling that one is standing on the threshold of taking part in and the creating of events that will not only change your future but that of a whole country for better or worse. Personally I found it to be perfect for the music playing during when you pick which clan you'll be leading for the single player campaign. I've only ever finished FOS single player campaign with the Satsuma clan and even that took me 3 hard fought tries to pull off. I confess having beat the plain Shogun 2 beforehand with Oda I felt a bit overconfident the first time I started FOS and I paid for it dearly. New infantry units and the new tactics they required to use effectively aside FOS adds lot of game changing features I had not expect to encounter. For example, unlike in plain Shogun 2 where you can pretty much ignore sea trade routes and get by pretty well using inland resources, FOS makes sea trade almost vital. This means unlike in plain Shogun 2, having a powerful navy was no longer a trivial matter. At least in FOS I didn't have to worry about the Shogun spreading lies about me to all other clans be they friend or foe and thus having the whole country turn against my clan just because I fairly nabbed more provinces then the Shogun liked me to have even if it was through only because I was winning a clan war I was forced into by another clan.

+TheRougeSky Naval supremacy is the key to victory in that game, since you depend on trade with the western powers. I try to get Ironclads and Iron plating as soon as possible, and I recommend you build your fleets with 2 frigates, 2 Ironclads, and 3 Kasugas. and I try to have no less than 5 fleets. Use your corvettes for blockades (or raiding, if they have coastal artillery) while your bigger ships bombard the coastal settlements and mop up any small fleets (if any) lingering around in open waters. Also, if you have a full fleet, you can call down 4 bombardments during battles with 44 shells per volley. It makes storming well defended castles a lot easier. Not to mention bombarding your enemy's settlements on the campaign map is a good way to keep the pressure on during the winter months.

I was thinking about this song and how it captures the feel of the boshin war and thinking about how transformative of an era it was. That everyone knew their society was on the cusp of irreversible change, for better or worse, but didnt know exactly how that would take form Then i realized, shit, WE are living in such an era. Technology and culture is rapidly changing by the decade with new forms of warfare and tech and AI emerging.. ladies and gents.. stay safe out there. You almost certainly will witness the world change unrecognizably if you live to old age. We might even live to find out about aliens one day.. and WE will be products of an ignorant bygone past.

Don't think it's physically possible for them to be able to outdo what they've already done in Shogun 2. Even if they tried, it'll probably just be a rehash of what we've already seen, except with *slightly* better graphics, filled with DLCs, and filled with other problems they'll have to fix.
