@@MexicanMovie Who hates this man and why? Why would a video of a 1.5 year old buck browsing drive people crazy? Human scent on that trail is GONE within 10 minutes as long as you don't get oil on vegetation from touching something. Your plume of stench is consumed and gone in 10 minutes so there is no way for any deer to recognize your ground disturbance as human.

I wish there was more corn where I'm from. In Southern NJ it's all blueberries. Plenty of public land on the edges but they don't really attract deer too well. Also they don't provide nearly the amount of security and nutrition of standing corn.

Hey John love the video. I was a K-9 officer for 8 years and the dogs are trained to track ground disturbance. The true test would be doing a area search with a man wearing scent lok. I’ve been wearing scent lok since it came out and never used it right until your help. I had a 100 inch buck the other night pass by me at 10 yards on the ground with the wind swirling and he never new I was there. I would be willing to bet that the dogs would have the same affect. I appreciate everything you’re doing and you have educated me way more than watching the so called actors 💯 % so keep it.

Seeing your hunts helps clarify what you discuss in the informational videos. Application/demonstration is always great. I've watched most of your videos (many multiple times) since discovering you a year ago. Your book is on my Christmas wish list. I've boiled down your methods of focus as follows - Be soundless, scent free, and unseen while getting to, and being in, the the right place at the right time. This include preplanned entry and exit. I now understand why I could easily harvest venison, but seldom saw a mature buck.

I’ve been hunting Michigan for 16 seasons and this looks like a 1.5 year old buck acting as normal. Most hunters who actually get a lot of time in the woods will have this happen every season. I had it happen about a week ago with a 100 inch 8 point. I was wearing a flannel shirt, carpenter pants, merino base layers, leather boots and a stormy kromer. He ended up picking me after hanging out for about a half hour but I attribute that to being miserably uncomfortable in my saddle and having to adjust. The comments about not being a serious hunter because people don’t wear your favorite brand of clothes is just silly. The reality is that you are the only guy I know of still trying to peddle scent control clothing that has a presence in the industry. Some of the best killers in the hunting industry right now are Cody and andrae d'acquisto, the whitetail adrenaline gang, The hunting public, Dan infalt and a few others and they are all hunting in cotton hoodies and flannel shirts. None of them have a clothing sponsor either so they can wear whatever they choose. I wore scentlok from 2007-2012 because it was heavily marketed by hunting media at the time. It was a miserable failure just like the other stuff the hunting show guys all advertised. The clothing was loud, fit poorly, commonly had zipper failures and I was always cold as hell wearing it. I’m sure the quality had improved a bit over time but in my mind and the mind of many other hunters it will always be mass marketed junk from the early 2000’s just like all of the other brands on TV at the time like Scentblocker, rage broadheads, ozonics, buck bomb, tinks, Easton FMJ arrows, dead down wind, Nikon, bushnell, muck boots etc…. Everything they advertised was junk so that’s how most people will associate it in their head.

This is exactly the way i see it too. That's just a young deer being a deer. I've seen that exact behavior 100 times from young bucks. He didn't come to the rattling either. Filmed a short clip of me in the tree today hunting the edge of public standing corn (with a persimmon tree on the runway that had been getting hit) in my ESS and ring of steps. Large trail coming out of corn to the persimmon tree. Didn't notice till i got down tonight lots of new empty water bottles and trash lying around that other hunters had left behind.... no wonder i didn't rattle anything in. Looking tonight to shorten the bottom of my Timbertall Brute Lite lower climber portion so i can shimmy up 15 feet or so real quick till i hit a branch, tie it off and use sticks to get the other 12-15 to get close to 30 feet when i need to. Sticks + strap on steps combo kinda sucks, i worked up a big sweat and took way too long for my liking. Aiders are hurting my foot that i broke last year. LOVE that ESS saddle though, I even used it to rappel down at the end of my hunt with my Madrock Safeguard, worked friggin fantastic !

A guy standing on the highway said it was the biggest buck ever. We did find some drops of blood. My grampa picked up the trail and barked on it. Everyone spread out trying to cross the monsters path.....the monster won. That buck was never seen before or after. We had to drive him out. It was an exciting hunt.

Good video footage. One of my hunting locations is a 10 acre tract of corps land that serves as a funnel between two very large tracts. The east parcel is private and the west parcel is state park and no hunting- it's alot of grass land. This spot is like yours, with a road parallel to the corps tract. All hard wood Oak and pine in the middle. I use "Dead Down Wind" for scent control.I have moved my stand three times in 9 years,it the same direction closer to the fence line. To my left from my stand I have been baiting it with corn for a month without incident, corn is gone when I replace it every 4 days.Deer tracts are in the spot of the corn plot. Ok,this morning at day break I buck snorted very quick and mild.5 min.later a buck enters my area to my left,15 yards from the plot,I never stepped there. He sniffs around for about 15 seconds and darts out the direction he came from. 2 hours later around 9 am,a very nice 10-12 point enters my area to my right, without detection,he passes me,then stops between me and two Oak trees, blocking him,I had to stand and turn to prep. for the shot,he blows a quick blow and darts forward about 15 yards, past the point that I walk to my stand ( my trail) He stops right there and instead of walking toward me he went away to his right. The winds were north, north west and I'm down wind of him,so he must have noticed or scented that trail.... Don't know about buck 1 or if it was the same deer. I have killed 15 deer at this location 11 were bucks, one monster that I couldn't locate. Good reality hunting video.Alot of the channel's give enormous amounts of information but don't film their results. Thanks.

Not a serious deer hunter? If scent control does in fact work you’re just proving that you’re not a very good hunter. Guys like Dan Infalt don’t need to strip the deer of any advantage they may have just to get a shot. People who learn nothing about terrain, wind, thermals, etc and are only fixated on scent control are the ones who aren’t serious.

John hunted the wind for many years before he moved to Scentlok and was still number one, I'm pretty sure he knows it all. Playing the wind is also stripping deer of their advantage. John moved to Scentlok so that he could hunt the spots that were ready for action that particular day, not just whenever the wind allows him too. And John didn't get a lot of his bucks from his buddies farm like Dan has on Dave's farm (r.i.p. Dave). Dan was great back in the old days, but he's been replaced by a lot of newer and better hunters. Dan struggles just as much as anybody else on public land.

The reason others shit on your sent control method is because they know they don't have the discipline to do it properly. It's hard for some to admit that they don't know how to do some things, it's easier to drag others down to their level

John I see you are using the ropeman, have you had any noise issues with it? I was using a ropeman will my tether but it always made noise until I had it hooked up, so reverted back to my rope prusik because it is silent.

Doesn't really prove anything..... I'm seeing lots of photos on the huntingbeast forum of nice bucks being killed currently with 0 scent control other than playing the wind. Scent lok suits are not cheap. I think I could use that money other places. Just saying..... I do enjoy your videos and hunting knowledge though. Keep em coming.

He’s not on public land, he’s lying. There’s no public land in Michigan where you can walk through a cornfield then rattle said bucks out of the cornfield. People need to stop listening to this scam artist.

I like the information in these videos and can’t argue your success, but name dropping other companies and putting them down publicly isn’t the right thing to do. For someone in the hunting industry this is unprecedented. There are a lot of people in this industry that have different views and sponsors. But I can’t recall anyone ever badmouthing another company.

I really don’t think you have to go to the extreme ls they you do, but you do you I guess. I wear a scent loc coat and pants, wear a regular face mask, and muck boots. I keep everything in my garage…dog going in and out all the time, girlfriend perfume from walking by etc. I have yet to be scented by a deer. Matter of fact just yesterday I had a six point brute 15’ from me directly down wind…even after grunting at him TWICE, he didn’t know what the heck I was. I didn’t get him because when I grunted at him to stop, he did stop, but his vitals were perfectly covered by two small trees growing next to eachother. He looked and sniffed and just gave up and walked off so all I could see was his ass. When their senses fail them, dumb luck takes over. BTW, I hunt from a saddle no more than 8’ from boot to ground at all times. One time I had three does walk right under me…couldn’t believe it! Just shower with scent free soap, wear a scent loc outfit, and SIT STILL/USE THE TREE. No need to go overboard with your scent regimen, but again….you do you.

Fraud. Where in Michigan is there corn on public land that you can walk through and doesn’t get absolutely pounded by other hunters, much less hold that many bucks?

Exactly right. I don’t use scent control because my life doesn’t allow me to be that exact( work kids ect.) it’s either all or nothing. What I do gain from JE is how deer behave on pressured public land.

Don't sweat it. I do nothing beyond using scent free soaps and playing the wind and have plenty of deer come in close. Good scouting and playing the wind will get you deer and it's practically free. If you need a confidence boost watch/listen to Dan Infalt and the The Hunting Public. Those guys all don't give a rats ass about scent control products and still kill plenty of old/big bucks.

You doing these videos is a game changer. I get tired of the high production pro videos out there where guys wear face paint and don't have to cover their scent. You are the real deal. This is relatable. Keep filming, we love it!
