Jfc I know that I often joke about how Keith Baker’s body is a machine that churns out best selling Eberron sourcebooks at a breakneck pace but in this case it’s incredibly accurate. Since the release of Rising from the Last War he’s made at least one sourcebook a year which is astounding given the fact that he’s not even using the power and accessibility of WotC to do it like with Rising.

Since Keith already created mechanics for Dragonmarks as feats in Frontiers of Eberron, and that wasn't official but this new book will be, he can reuse a lot of material. He just needs to make a few fixes here and there now that he'll have access to more playtesting. Personally, I think the Mark of Passage should just give +5 to movement like it used to. That Orien Step cantrip was kinda meh.

I find that image in the Eberron section VERY interesting. The guy on the left is clearly a Battle Smith, followed by an Alchemist and an Armorer in the middle. On the other end is an Artillerist. That just leaves the guy in the trench coat. Odd to have a group of Artificers in a lineup, with some random dude just hanging out. I think we might be getting a fifth Artificer subclass, and if so, I'm so stoked to see what direction they go with it.

OHHH DUH, I didn't realize those were subclass arts! I kind of assumed they were just generic concept arts. That being said, I can't see how bowtie and trenchcoat nerd who isn't holding anything corresponds to any potential subclasses either...the other 4 though obviously are as you point out.

Judging from the trench coat and what I believe is a spyglass in their hand, I'm going to assume its some sort of detective/inquisitive subclass. Maybe taking inspiration from the inquisitive rogue and making it an Artificer? Idk but the art of all of them is incredible. The flying familiar/homunculus has me intrigued

@@AveryPowers77 The object he's holding is a magnifying glass. A spyglass would be a small telescope (pirate style). But yes, that would imply some kind of detective vibe (I initially saw it as a pocket watch, but it's definitely a magnifying glass now that I look again). As for the flying homunculus, what is it that has you intrigued? It's just the normal homunculus servant (now as a spell instead of an infusion). They say it can take whatever form you want, and Tasha's showed a few examples. This one just fits the Alchemist vibe better, since it's got a flask of chemicals as it's lower half.

@@Aligariusful To me that's far less believable than it being a new subclass. Why have him shown standing next to himself when his identity outside the suit has nothing to do with the subclass. And it assumes the image isn't trying to show them all lined up in person, as in he can't be in two places at once.

On the subclasses that will be in the Forgotten Realms book, I could also see what they did in the PHB - just pull a subclass option in from Tasha's with minor tweaks. My guesses: Wild Magic Barbarian, Spores Druid, Astral Monk, and Genie Warlock (would tie into the Genie Paladin)

@3:40 "Permanent Haste" LOLOL, no, I can pretty much guarantee that will not be there. More likely it would be for spells like "Mighty Fortress" "Passwall" and "Private Sanctum" Things that would become permanent in an RP situation. To suggest Haste would be permanent is just asking for players to break your game balance.

The "permanent" spells won't be player buffs. It will be things like wards.

That'd still be nice. Hopefully it lets you create permanent versions of guards and wards, teleportation circle, and druid Grove in less than a year

@@skippy9273 It'll be interesting to see the requirements for something like that, if its a one and done casting of Guards and Wards that is permanent. Is there a minimum number of casters, do they all have to have the spell prepared, etc. Excited for it though.

I really hope Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion is an option for a permanent spell - I’m about to kick off a campaign starting with The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces, and it would be so cool if it could come full circle and have the players learn how to do the very thing they start out investigating.

Khoravar are Eberron Half-elves (p26 Rising from the Last War)... at least that would make the half-elf specific dragon marks functional rather than having to fudge the 2024 "they're X with a bit of Y but functionally X" rules for mixed species characters rules

Based on the artwork: Dapper fellow with the metal hound: Battlesmith Lady with the green potion vials: Alchemist Hulking Warforged: Armorer Lady with the lightning gun: Artillerist …so WHO is that mundane-looking fellow with the pocket watch!? Is this some new Artificer subclass not yet featured in a UA? Is the pocket watch indicative of some time-warp shenanigans? Or perhaps some other kind of Artificer…? Dunno, it just fascinates me.

Not to rain on your parade but I'm thinking base on the matching color scheme, stiffness of the armor pose(like it's turned off), shoe style feet as opposed to Warforged two toes, five fingered hands as opposed to Warforged three fingers, and the look of goggles/visor on the face that the guy with the brown coat IS the Armorer and that it is his armor suit not a Warforged standing next to him.

@@WoofDaLock I think I disagree, I think the "Hulking Warforged" is the Armorer and the armor is occupied by the Armorer in the artwork. Seems a strange choice to have the armor beside the person when its like a lineup of different subclasses, and it seems like the forehead area is their skin poking through (though, if so, I hope this is with their helmet off otherwise that's kinda crazy design). Plus with how we are getting more subclasses for FR I would assume we would get a new one for Eberron too. Though I could be mistaken.

I'm confused. Members of any race could already work for any of the houses, they just couldn't be dragonmarked members as they wouldn't manifest the dragonmark of said house.

Let make one point about adding subclasses. WOTC is treating the 2024 rules as an update. And all previous subclasses are still usable. For official material the subclass count is currently Barbarian 10, Bard 9, Cleric 14, Druid 8, Fighter 10, Monk 10, Paladin 9, Ranger 8, Rogue 9, Sorcerer 8, warlock 9 and Wizard 13. So, the disparity does still exist, especially for players that are just both sources as intended. After the frpg only the druid will have 8 all others will have 9 or more.

The Tile system sounds like what Critical Role is doing with DaggerHeart. I've experimented with something like it for one-shots: you have a sheet with a Class abilities, and cards with Species / Heritages and an ability. Players then choose their Class and what Species they are, and bam, you start playing. It's a good way to introduce new people to the game: they get to "build" a character while not having to go through ALL of the options.

Looking at the character lineup for the Eberron art, theres 5 PCs. Left to right they'd be Battle Smith, Alchemist, Armorer, ???, and Artillerist. That feels like confirmation of a new subclass. He's holding a pocket watch, so maybe chronurgy based? The Armorer is occupied so it is just him out of suit.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is a "companion book" to E:RFLW. expands on different parts of the setting. Khoravor (half-elves) will be introduced as a new species along with 2024 revisions of previous Eberron species. also, dragonmarks will be feats available to any species. set to release August 19, 2025.

I'd rather have 8 thought out sub classes that have had time & effort put into them then 12 sub classes where some of them are meh that no one's ever going to use, pages that may as well be blank in a relatively expensive book. My guess is they probably wanted to do 12, got 8 done but then ran out of time on their productions schedule & just moved forward with what they had.

Yeah, because circle of spell casters all casting at the same time was never an idea before hand. I was shocked when druids started suddenly gathering at Stonehenge at the Summer Solstice to do rituals, prayers and spells. I didn't realise so many people read the Wheel of Time.

Feels strange that Dragonmarks are can now be non-traditional species, but I feel like most invested DMs will treat these cases as first-of-a-kind instances. That said, I'm very glad to see marked subspecies move aside for feat based marks. Optimizers will grab Sentinel Mark for Shield on non-Humans but I only care if it happens at my table if it's handled with the correct gravitas.

I’m disappointed that they didn’t make a new subclass for each of the core classes and you hit on many of the reasons why they should have. I know it’s foolish of me to hope but maybe the reason they don’t have a subclass for those four classes is because they will be in another book like the mystery book or the Eberon book. Though this is highly unlikely to happen.

If the Eberron book wasn’t coming as early as August I think I would agree that they’d have a chance being in there. Since that date was given though idk if that’s enough time to test them all in UA, fine tune them, and then get it all organized and out to print.

@@trexdrew Unfortunately, I agree. I don't think the article actually states "there will be new subclasses for the base 12 classes too." Most likely, it'll just be mainly Artificer, its 4 base subclasses we saw again last UA, 4 or so Eberron races, and dragonmark stuff along with the short adventure ideas chapters. If I had to guess, the "unique" book size and prize point will be a very slim book at a reduced cost (that cost not being fair how much smaller the book is, of course).

10:10 I mean they’ve never done it for a setting book before. Tasha’s and Xanathar’s did but they’re not settings. Player options is the point. And even then Xanathar’s didn’t give the same amount of subclasses to every class. It was uneven. I honestly didn’t even expect 8 subclasses from the new Forgotten Realms book necessarily. I thought there might be less.

You know I would have been real hyped for this. If it had come out before 2022. Maybe I'll still get it and it'll be one of the only 5.5 books I buy. But it's probably mostly just going to be for the artificer stuff. I don't like that they're changing lore features of the setting. The rules should conform to the setting. I understand the impulse to not have things species locked for the setting neutral main books. But I feel like it should be more than okay once you start getting into specific settings. Things like unique subclasses and the like. Are one of the things that helps make settings unique. Not to mention that by not doing this you are also forcing changes to the lore.

I think we're stuck with the 8 subclasses in the Forgotten Realms Player's guide. I think its very likely that each new player's guide style book like the upcoming one for Eberron are going to have 8 subclasses each. The FRpg is missing 4 classes, the barbarian, druid, monk, warlock. The new artificer is likely going to appear in the Eberron book with at least 4 sublclasses, so it makes sense they would round out those 8 subclasses with the missing ones. I would love to be wrong with this but I feel like Wizards are going to do everything in their power to milk this.

I guess Keith isn't done with wotc after all? He said he'd be done but I haven't kept up on all things KB. Regardless I love eberron and appreciate more love. I imagine one of the bastions would be based on the moving fortress as part of Breland. Probably a talenta plains caravan type thing with dinosaur riders. There's so many ways they can take this idea in eberron. Having your own flying ship or nautical ship fleet.

While it's kinda true everything is backwards compatible, I'd say from my point of view that applies far more to adventures, stat blocks and expansion rules then it ever has applied to player options Like true you could use an old background or species but it seems pretty clear that 2024 has entirely overthrown player options and it designs them so differently At all my tables players are restricted exclusively to content post 2024, but we still regularly visit the 2014 rules for adventures and some of the extra rules in Xanathars or Tasha's I look forward to them slowly updating all the old player options to the new rules over time and I hope we eventually get a 2024 version of all the interesting ones... Though on the flipside of that coin there's plenty of old player options I'm pretty happy to say good riddance to

Dont know why there is another eberron source book when there is already 3 of them for 5e. Would much rather have a spelljammer or ravenloft source book. Both need expanded on, especially spelljammer. The unnounced book.is definitely a player companion with the missing subclasses. Otherwise they would have anounced it. That or a compagn book

Have set 100% disagree about your take on having conforming art in a book.I think the different art will give DMs more inspiration and possible connections to an art form they like. It helps the art in DnD stay alive imo, don’t want it to become semi-soulless like Magic the Gathering. At least a few books should have some diverse art to draw inspiration from. If folks want to support Eberron and Kieth Baker he has a Patreon and books for 5e on the Dungeon Masters Guild. Already full of lore, subclasses and more ^_^

Sad to see wotc doing the same thing as last time and splitting up all the new player character content amongst as many different books as possible. * subclasses in 1 book, artificer, four more species updates and circle spells in another etc. Gods knows how many more books before all the subclasses and race updates are finally out. I wish each book was themed better. This is a book of all the species and sub-classes updated for 2024 rules, while these books over here are for individual campaigns, campaign settings and anything else not directly related the the core character building options. But sadly hasbro demands their pound of flesh, so we have to fork out for almost every book (in THIS economy?) *sigh*

I mean wizards ruined 5th edition. Never touching the 2024 version garbage. They had a nearly perfect system and ruined it. If anything I'll grab a setting book here or there but none of the new garbage is being used.

Can anyone tell me or at least give their best guest as to what the heck the Forgetton Realm's Player's Guide is going to have in it if it's only going to have a measly 8 subclasses (not even 2 subclasses for each base class like I was reasonably assuming)? What, are they going to add new species? It's not like FR is eberron with various awesome and setting-specific species that weren't already in the PHB. More player backgrounds? How many pages can those possibly be, 10 pages at most which is a huge estimate. Feats? Sure, that's another...5 or 10 (10 is a LOT of feats) pages? I am at my wits end figuring out how they're going to fill out the other 200 or so pages. I know they will, obvously, but how..

The Anniversary was last year. It did suck. This year's releases - except the Monster Manual - are not part of the Anniversary.
