you can cook it on high in a crock pot of antifreeze for a couple days, that gets it like new, also you can blast it with a map gas torch down into the holes, if it smokes there's carbon, if it's red hot and not smoking anymore it's gtg for another winter 🔥

The issue is a wrong fuel to air mix by either a wrong tune, or air or exhaust restrictions

Chinese heaters Hint: Use a 625RR not 625ZZ at the brush end as the dust from the brushes contaminates the bearings. Also if you cut a washer from the lid of a Chinese Takeaway Food container 13.5 mm OD and 4.5mm ID and place this between the brushes and the bearing, and use commutator lubricant or lanolin. The motor shaft slips which ends up with the brown compressor fan inside hitting the plate, or the Black fan hitting the sensor package. When the motor slows it creates a rich burn, more Carbon Monoxide , more fuel used for the heat setting, and Smokey star up and shutdown, and deposits in the heater. So when you pull the motor apart superglue it in the correct place .

You can clean them out with a propane torch. Heating it red hot will burn out the carbon.

Hydrochloric acid tuns all that build into sludge and it can be rinsed out with water, Don't know how many times this can be done before it corrodes the mesh but it seems to clean it up good, just be sure to rinse all the muck out and run it as soon as possible to burn away any corrosive stuff left behind.

Hi there! Great videos, clear explanations, very helpful - Thank you for posting! Now my problem with an Eberspächer airtronic D4 plus is the following: Starts, heats, runs for about 12 minutes - and stops abruptly, without the cooling process afterwards. Fault can be reproduced. - Maybe this has something top do with the control unit? or with the thermostat? I am not able to do a electric testing and diagnosis myself. - What to do??
@DIYHelper
@DIYHelper 2 жыл бұрын
Sudden stops are not from the Thermostat, even if the Thermostat reaches the set temperature it should do a cool down. I had only one case in 5 years when a heater did this and it was the ECU. No faults were shown either just a sudden stop.
@foryoutosee6997
@foryoutosee6997 2 жыл бұрын
@@DIYHelper Thanks! So you would recommend to take out the ECU, have it checked at an EBERSPÄCHER service point and maybe replace it, correct?
@DIYHelper

It would be my first guess if power supply to the heater is fine, I am presuming it is fine since the biggest power draw is at start when the glow plug is on not after 12 minutes of running.

But to be sure I would go with the car as is, it would be easier for them check everything.

i have one question about the clones from cina airtronic. so the length fof the intake and exhaust pipe must not be longer that 2m each 2+2=4m total lenght. my question is if my intake pipe is only 0.5m can i make the exhaust pipe 3.5m long 0.5+3.5=4m ?
@DIYHelper
@DIYHelper Жыл бұрын
Good question but no in my opinion. The only way to lengthen the exhaust is by using a bigger diameter.

The heater is basically a diesel engine. Why not just use Sea Foam in the fuel and let it clean itself as it runs? No muss, no fuss, never soots up.

The spiral glow plug is about 3/4 of a inch . unless you completely modify it it won't fit . and the modern ones work on 9 volt , the spiral on 12 .

I have a Chinese heater with a burner that has a replaceable mesh. Instead of being welded together it screws together. New mesh strips can be found on eBay for about $3 each. Unfortunately the Chinese burners use 4 mounting holes where the Espars appear to use 3.

@DIYHelper
@DIYHelper 2 жыл бұрын
Chinese are copies of these heaters, the burners of Espar have 3 holes foe the 2 kW and 4 holes for 4kw so you probably have the 5-8kw version which is the copy of the 4 kW Espar, that is why you have 4 mounting holes.

Hi, wondering if you know about the ventilation mode that pushes in outside air, and wether the vent from the outside air intake into the cabin is always open or controlled open and close? I'm getting some exhaust in the cabin and investigating/ruling out all possible routes and wondered about this one.
@DIYHelper
@DIYHelper Жыл бұрын
Is the heatead air taken from outside? If you are recycling the air in your cabin even on ventilation mode is the same inside air recycled.
@TheAllSeeingAye
@TheAllSeeingAye Жыл бұрын
@@DIYHelper Heated air is recycled, yes, but in the 2020 install manual it says here indicated it gets air from the outside intake thought a "louvres" I assume it opens and closes but I can't be sure, it's possible that is always open, with no lever. It would explain why I smell a good surge of stronger exhaust when the heater stops and starts as they have more incomplete combustion. 5.5.2 Ventilate "In this operating mode, the heater supplies the vehicle interior with fresh outdoor air via the ventilation louvres. This operating mode is only possible if the function is supported by the heater version (see also Technical Description of the Heater)." I have the S2 D2 model that has this function.
@DIYHelper
@DIYHelper Жыл бұрын
The ventilation function is there but there is nothing in the heater that can open or close to switch between fresh or recycled air. The manual asumes that the heater is supplied with fresh air all the time I guess. If you smell exhaust there are only a few ways to get in. Heater is supplied with fresh air, the flange gasket is not sealing between the heater and vehicle floor, the glow plug rubber grommet is misplaced or broken. Other ways are related to the vehicle, ventilation holes, gaskets not sealing around doors, over pressure flaps stuck on open, the exhaust of the heater is not routed to the outside of the vehicle and gases get trapped under the car.
@TheAllSeeingAye
@TheAllSeeingAye Жыл бұрын
@@DIYHelper I suspect there isn't a open/close and it's just always open - will ask Espar on Monday to confirm. Tha'ts the only other way I suspect it could get in since the C-clamp for exhaust does let a little escape and get sucked in a little through the air intake calmp - cause of the hoses and the C-clamp it doesn't provide an air tight fit. Or the stop/re-start fumes leaves exhaust and blown into air intake itself. Glow plug and air chamber seal looks good and I couldn't smell anything after stopping heat and pulling the cover off to give it a good sniff but who knows if that tells me anything. Mount floor seal is good. I did extend the exhaust out past the side of my van a bit yesteraday and that helped tremendously with the fumes. (I had underestimated how much exhaust could pool under the van and how much can get in. But I'm still getting that whiff of strong smell when it stops or re-starts heating from the cabin vent. I am using the max 2m length exhaust allowed so it could increase back pressure and leakage at the c-clamp. I will have to put some strong peppermint oil at the intake end and turn on the heat to see if I can smell it through the cabin vent, that will tell me if it's always pushing some outside air in. It's not a lot because I have a CO2 meter when I use ventilation mode and it does reduce it by much in 10 minutes, - I confirmed ventilation mode pushes air out of the exhaust as well.
