Last November, being a 20+year bicycle commuter, I was just starting to experiment with e-bikes -- and it happened. I was watching a video here on KZbin that featured a massive group ride on all sorts of electric rideables. There were e-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards, and.... what the heck are those? These single wheels - those look so futuristic! How are they staying up on those things? How are they ...working??? Oh those are so cool! This is the transportation of 2022 that I dreamed of as a kid. I MUST HAVE ONE. I MUST LEARN IT. Now, I have 4 wheels, 4000+ miles, and just learned to ride backwards, and did part of my 32 mile commute backwards. EUC stole the e-bike's thunder.

Literally exact same situation here. I'm also a 20+ year commuter on bikes, and I too got an EUC last November for the exact same reason after seeing this dude cruise by on the road at around 60kmph. I was originally set on an escooter, cause I had the chance to play around on a rental city's escooter during one of my road trip. But while browsing online I came across euc and was instantly reminded of said dude mentioned above. Not to mention the range on these things are far far better for the price.

Excellent and fun video! I think one of the categories that is missing is the perception of the rest of society when you are on the street. Pedestrians and drivers are not used to see EUCs and when they see you their brain cant process fast enough a person standing and traveling 20 mph and they start crossing the street as you are not even there, almost causing an accident. Happened me twice on my town where are almost not EUCs at all. When it comes to bicycles everyone knows what is is and how interact on the street with it.

I have both - a Begode RS (HS) and an e-MTB with Bafang Ultra motor (160nm torque) and 1512Wh worth of battery (2 batteries - one in down tube and one above down tube). I like the e-MTB the best - for some things, there are things that the EUC is better for too. I like having both available so that I can use whichever is best for any particular task. It is really good to have smaller transport options as I'm living in an RV and it is surprising that for getting around the city an 11M long RV isn't always the best option. My e-MTB came with a rear carrier and saddlebags, combined with a backpack I can do a decent amount of shopping and bring it home. Right now it is nearing spring in this part of the world, I am looking forward to improving weather so I can do more riding of each of my PEVs.

I've ridden bikes since I was about 3 years old, and I feel very safe and confident, whether it's off-road or through the city. I've been riding an EUC since November 2021, and a few days ago I upgraded my V10F to a V12 HT. I am loving the challenge of riding an EUC, but I have nowhere near the confidence as I have on a bike. But it's fun learning something new, I am absolutely addicted!

Love the detailed comparison, Adam. I really enjoyed it very much. and it helps with your great editing skills (I can tell Taba was having a bit of difficulty trying to get his message across in english freestyle, but he did great). You and Taba covered most there is to know about each ride's strength/weaknesses and advantages/disadvantages. I've watched the whole video but I didn't see/hear, yours and Taba's thoughts, on your talking points, the comparison on weight of a fully kitted out e-bike vs fully kitted out EUC, just so it gives us a visual idea of the weight of each devices. I understand that on an e-bike, you can put a bigger battery pack, beefier brakes, etc, so the weight will vary considerably, which would affect the performance either positive or negative way (wrong way? haha) but I'm looking more into the kits that are used on a 'daily driver' kind of deal for a fair comparision. Anyways, thank you for this very informative video. CHEERS!

Nice video, Adam! Yeah, the EUC may never be truly widespread, but I hope that manufacturers keep introducing more redundant systems (like the V13, according to their presentation) and that legislators allow EUC in all countries with permissive laws. The thing that shocked me most of this video was the need to have a fundraiser to get proper medical care (21:50).

Speaking of safety when it comes to the EUC. I've had my InMotion V8F for almost two months now, and I had my first crash. Now, I had an animal run out in-front of me so I had to break suddenly (which is fine), but what made me "crash", is when I braked, I had done it next to the road / grass and had turned into the grass, which was wet, which caused me to slip. The EUC is completely fine, but I fell on my left side and so did my EUC, which had my feet locked in due to me braking. I ended up breaking my left big-toe (Today makes a week) and had to ride home on it. It's been a week now, and the 4th day the swelling had gone down considerably and I was able to start walking (albeit with my foot at an angle to not put any pressure on my toe so it can heal), and now I'm able to ride again, but I obviously can't take my right-turns as hard as I can with my left, due to not wanting to put too much pressure on my foot during the process. Riding has been fine for me and I take extra precaution as to not hurt my foot 🤭 but I can stand perfectly fine and not have my toe hurt, just have to slightly angle it! I love my EUC a lot and will definitely be upgrading late on down the road 🥰

Don't matter how many wheels you got, I love PEVs I think an Ebike is a better universally, but considering how you probably only have 1 or 2 use cases for your PEV, I really prefer the small for factor of EUCs. Just being able to take it wherever is soooo convenient and removes that anxiety of it being stolen while parked. Ebikes are cool if you like cycling. I'd prefer at that point to just get an electric motorcycle, but those are kinda wack still... Nothing like those old Alta dirtbikes on the market...

I'd disagree that if you can ride a bike, you can ride an e-bike. Most casual cyclists haven't even heard about counter-steering cause they don't reach speeds at which their light commuter bikes will heavily require it. And if they try to turn at an e-bike speed, well, gonna go straight into oncoming traffic. Many are even afraid of the front brake.

Sleeping Policeman in the UK as well, or speed bumps, speed humps if you like :-) Amazing braking on the EUC, the most I have even seen, you live and learn :-) Interesting video this against an eBike, I never would have thought the EUC would do so well, especially since he is no slouch on that bike. The EUC no work for your arms, comfort, upright, go all sorts of places a bike would be awkward, easier transport in the car, and you can go backwards of course :-) Darwin Awards are more appropriate to EUC's, if you want to take to discount the risks and ride accordingly. I think everything you want to do on an EUC has to be practiced, an EUC doesn't give anything away for free. At 64 I took a bit longer but, as your said just the same. Cost on an EUC will be much higher because, and I kid you not, you will end up with more than one, several in fact - well who am I telling this too :-)
@HungrySpinz2 жыл бұрын
Saying that crashing on an EUC is a lot better is a long stretch. Yes Kelly screwed herself on a Surron but can't they go like 100km/h or something? Also saying you can run out of the fall on an EUC.... The other guy that tried to run out when he fell on that race some months or a year ago had his ankle give in. Just watch out for that biased comments. Both suck crashing I'm more afraid to fall on an EUC tbh specially if it's a cutout

Very iteresting comparison. It would be even more apples-to-apples, and more maybe more informative, to compare a throttle-only e-bike, or e-moped, with an equally nominally powered motor. That would take pedalling out of the comparison. In the safety comparison, you neglect the fact that bikes can coast after a motor failure, whereas EUCs dump you. The extra wheel and differing physics of a bike vs. the inherent differences of a unicycle are a fascinating subject. Thanks for the video comparison that was free of fan-boy shenanigans. The primary practical advantage of EUCs is that you can keep them with you whereas bikes are just thefts waiting to happen, which sucks but is so far unsolveable.
@znail46752 жыл бұрын
