A few answers to the frequently asked questions I'm seeing: 1) How much did the government pay you? Answer: Nothing, I was paid $0 to make this video. I just took a private trip to China and brought my cameras. 2) Was this a government-sponsored trip? Answer: No, I chose the factories I wanted to visit and a Florida-based bicycle trade group helped me with connections. I'm just a private guy with a few cameras. 3) What if the factories hid the stuff they didn't want you to see? Answer: They probably did. 4) Why aren't you eating meat? Answer: Health and environmental reasons. Why does what I eat bother you so much? 5) Why didn't you go to a labor camp? Answer: Because my channel is about bikes so that's what I went to see. When I visit the US for videos, I don't go film the child labor abuses or lack of affordable health care. 6) Why do you support the CCP? Answer: I don't. I ride bikes. I hope this helped answer any burning questions!

Over 15 years ago, I completed my MBA. Much of it was spent studying the emerging Chinese economic miracle. It left me so curious that I quit my management job with a top U.S. corporation and moved there. I spent about 2 years in China on a business visa. During that time, I traveled to all of the major factory cities on the east coast, including Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. I was expecting to find a series of dirty, badly-run operations that put out junk. What I found instead was closer to what was shown in this video. The reason for most of the bad impression about Chinese goods is mostly due to the American entrepreneurs who tend to only import the junk that they can make the most money on. Example: I went to several Chinese furniture stores in average shopping centers and malls, in multiple cities. These stores catered to the Chinese middle class. What I saw was stunning, ultra-high quality furniture that was sturdier, more elegant, and made of better materials than anything I'd seen in the U.S.. It was also NOT cheap. With respect to the local purchasing power parity (PPP), it was on par with the premium stuff you buy in the West. The point is that a Westerner would NEVER know this, unless they actually went to China and really saw this stuff up-close and in multiple places. I'm all for bringing manufacturing back to America, but be aware that 1) we have no monopoly on brains and hard work and 2) the Chinese work damn hard! The average 21st century Chinese worker has the work ethic of an early-20th century American. In other words, they believe a job is not a right, but a privilege. Yeah, there have been worker protests in places like Foxconn, but in the majority of Chinese blue collar workers (some of whom I knew socially) were damned proud of their work, their companies, and their country. China ain't perfect, but its also not North Korea. They can manufacturer some pretty great stuff. It's no surprise that BYD has surpassed Tesla in the EV market. While the U.S. raises tariffs to keep the products out, BYD is going to be building factories in other parts of the Americas.

I’m a 72-year old grandma and have absolutely no interest in e-bikes. However, I was curious about your visit to China and your overall experience while you were there. Western media has fed us so many negative aspects of China and from what I saw in this video, nothing could be further from the truth. China is a very modern and innovative country. It is way ahead with the use of its high speed trains or bullet trains, the factories, the treatment of its employees, the cleanliness, etc. . . Those factories sure did not look like sweat-shops to me. In any event, I was very impressed with the content of this video and your overall experience in China.
You haven't even BE THERE. And you talk this positively about China. There are good and bad sides. You also just believe this type of media. Factories always have this "show factory" which is a small part where everything looks nice for western consumers to visit. The real factory is hidden, and do look like sweat-shops. They never show that to western visitors.

This was a first time visit to China but not the Orient for me. My BF went for 3mo to visit her parents so they could meet their 18mo granddaughter. My 2.5 wk stay was a great experience. I certainly was the odd one out & many asked if I was from Russia being closer to it's boarder there. The food and people were fantastic, many went out of their way to help. Like every country, you have the good & bad found with it's people (behavior) or government (things often seen in the infrastructure & maintenance that give the impression of poverty). However, I'd return again to visit if given an opportunity. 😇

My best friend is Chinese. I started doing business with China in 1984. I was in the electronics business and one of the largest distributor of computer hardware in the state of Indiana. I sold that business and later became a licensed exporter of acholic beverages, exhibiting American wines at Wine and Spirits Exhibits in major cities in China. The people are incredible considerate and extremely generous. Although, they will push and shove to get to the front of the line. Their business practice is unethical and difficult to deal with. It is customary to lie, exaggerate and renege on an agreement. That is their standard procedure. In my Electronic business, I often would receive counterfeit Microsoft Software and hardware and turn it into Microsoft. China does not abide by international patents. You must file an additional patent in China and it still won't stop the counterfeiting. Their government subsides many of their manufacturers and levy unfair taxes and import duties on foreign competition. USA wine producers must pay over 100% duty, plus taxes and fees. To get influence in Chile, they are charged 0%. China still receives developing nation status, even though they are the largest exporter in the world. They are not required to meet pollution standards and are the largest polluters in the world today. Their GDP is fake and they abuse the financial system and utilize their borrowed money to loan-shark and buy influence throughout the world. It is now coming to a head and they are desperate because they are exposed. Their economy is spiraling down and it's too late to make any meaningful changes to save it. Foreign investment has dried up and manufacturing is relocating to business friendly countries. If you travel there, you should consider what you eat. They have found that the slaughter houses employees are taking organs that are not for consumption and selling it to restaurants. Sanitary conditions are lacking. China is in economic decline and won't recover for decades if at all.

The trip was mostly cultural (thousand years old temples, historic cities and sites) but I also visited a huge production facility for traditional Chinese spirits, sold in all of Asia and worldwide (bringing in good currency). The degree of automatisation and robotisation was amazing, with robot driven huge warehouses. And the capacity of the company is targeted to double in the coming year or so. Doubling capacity seems a smooth process : a lot of space available, land and grains for the raw materials, lots of suppliers around for the equipments and easily customised standardised blueprints for chains and warehousing (like the train stations that are modern, spacious and very similar from one place to another). Not to mention the rate at which the country visibly adopts and scales digital techs and also AI, in big cities , in stores, on new cars, phones and televisions . Impressive.

Thank you. it is interesting to note that Chinese factories are not like the backyard junk shops after the communists took control of the country. Not only did it learn from foreign countries, but improved on what they learned. It seems the world is split into two, one driven by traditional Internal Combustion Engines, and an electrified one like what is shown in the video, and in China. The US is determined to hang on to the traditional way, as demonstrated by Joe Biden who is desperate to retain jobs for the auto workers, all for political expediency. Judging by the electrified vehicles in China, it is obvious that China is not waiting around for the US, or Europe, to see the benefits of EV. The west can go their own way, and who knows if they might finally become "born again EV" users.

You should not be surprised. Things are different in China. Companies are mostly government-owned but management-operated. The Managers are treated well by the government - they trust them with running the factories. These "bosses" (managers) treat run their departments as if the department were their own factory. Family-oriented, often located hours away from civilization. Therefore, being part of a sports team, and other recreational activities is a must for everybody. 10 years ago, I was invited for a month in China, living with a family. I stayed in tiny cities, Taiyuan and Linfen (respectively, only ≈5 million people and ≈3 million people - that's why you never heard of them). It was obvious that I was the only white guy there by the reactions of some people. For example, we decided to go to a nephew’s kung-fu competition. As soon as I entered in the venue, nobody cared about the kung-fu anymore, they were interested by me, so we wisely decided that perhaps it wasn’t the best idea… I was impressed that at least 90% of vehicles even back then were electric. 10 years prior, Linfen was one of the 10 most polluted city on Earth, and I was impressed at the air quality after years of work (they closed 50,000 - yes thousands - of clandestine coal mines) to the point I would actually live there. It was a trip full of beauty and strange things, and what I liked the most were the Chinese themselves. They are a fun-loving people who love a good life and good food. You go out at night and the streets are full of people enjoying life. Watching this film made me miss China a lot… Thanks!

Isn't communism all about treating workers better than owners? I am confused. Why you guys think other way around? Actually back to 60s their workers were happier because they literally own those industries. The problem is treating workers too good is bad for the economy and innovation, that is why US is still the world engine of tech innovation. Basically every piece of tech showed in this video is originated from U.S. Americans just do not fabricate them anymore, but still invent, design and manage them. Also provide China the tooling for fabrication. I think majority of the public looks this in a wrong way. China works for U.S. not other way a round. China takes the job that Americans do not want. Like Latino take most of the heavy labor jobs. I know literally 0 Americans want to take those jobs. It seems you guys want those jobs back to U.S. but deep down you guys just want other fellows do the hard work for you and you earn the salary which is ridiculous. It had never happened and is not going to happen ever. Think about the Luddite Movement, etc, Contra torrentem niti! few possible solutions: - for those, actually want to take those jobs move to China, I think they will be more than happy to take you - for those, want to climb up the ladder, try to use your experience to build up a business that collaborating with Chinese factories, for example, provide better tooling for them, do consulting service for them, etc. I actually know some Japanese engineers doing this who earned a fortune. - for those, do not have the skill to work in modern factory, get back to school get retrained for something else. - for those, do not have any useful skill in any industry and do not want to learn anything new, then I do not know, practice your shooting skills maybe?

In UK you cannot send LI battery items just like that. Depending on battery size (who knows how much?) it must have officially a UN3481 label ... never seen them to buy at Royal Mail. Here in the rail nobody checks for power banks or x-rays your luggage (nor sure about the Euro tunnel). Here they only complain at certain times if you enter the train with 2 pieces of luggage, not that that was made clear before booking the ticket, because they want to make you pay more ... Only on the planes there is a size limit, about 20000mAh. Above that better read the details. And in general, LI batteries are not really safe. Hence these rules. OOPS.

You are supposed to be in a country that the US politicians called a police state but you seem to be having an unlimited freedom of movement for a foreigner throughout your trip. You may not even get the same kind of VVIP treatment in your home country. .Your intense schedule involves so many high speed train rides on time and with ease is really a shocker to your countrymen.Your trips to so many gigantic factories in China has endowed China as the factory of the world. So many factories have " overcapacity" of robots that Janet Yellen would complain for being unfair trade practices by China towards the US. Good luck and enjoy your trip to China and smells the countryside fresh air and the less noise polluted Shanghai..

In China, the fact is that the government does not control the behavior of foreigners, as long as everything is legal. It is interesting that Westerners often believe in the media propaganda that the Chinese government controls everything, which is absurd. Is the CPC a god? Is there nothing it cannot do? Does it have magic? Are we living in a Harry Potter world? I watched another video where a foreign student in China visited a factory and was shown around the facilities and then treated to a Hot Pot meal. Is this VVIP treatment? Yes. Is it related to the government? Not at all. It is simply the Chinese way of hospitality. If any foreigner approaches us with goodwill willing to understand us, we are happy to receive them well. Clearing misunderstandings is a spontaneous behavior of all Chinese people. We have been misled by fake news for too long in the world. In China, if a high-speed train is delayed, it is considered a serious operational accident, and any displeased passengers will immediately dial 12306 (railway customer service) to lodge complaints. As for overcapacity being a joke, Janet Yellen should give herself a slap. Instead of complaining about our overcapacity, she should reflect on how she and the Western world have shifted the so-called "high-polluting outdated industries" to Third World countries over the past half-century, letting the entire Western world benefit by controlling market pricing and making Third World countries bear the negative effects of industrialization. Facing these negative impacts, such as environmental issues, Westerners suddenly come out with a noble sense of morality to blame China or other countries. China spent at least two decades overcoming the environmental problems of industrialization and currently possesses the world's only complete industrial system, which is why we have become the world's factory. While the Western world has been busy removing its industrial capabilities in the past half-century, some Western countries are now struggling even with basic industrial production. At this point, those self-righteous Western politicians jump out and blame China's overcapacity for causing the West's difficulties. Doesn't this seem ridiculous? The West's problem lies within the West themselves, so Westerns should not act like saints.

In fact, most of the media we have seen since childhood is belittling China and appreciating Japan, Europe and the United States, especially the "we media". The Chinese government does not say that China is the best. About one-third of the news we see every day is the trivia of celebrities, one-third is what is happening in China, and one-third is what international countries are doing. When I was a kid I thought we were the worst country, other countries were noble and kind, didn't steal, everyone was good at learning, I really thought corruption was only in China. In fact, when I went to college and used a VPN to come to KZbin, I was really surprised by how much negative Chinese news was overwhelming. When the summer floods happen then the government comes to the rescue, as it has for decades. But on KZbin it was narrated that the CPC had evil changed the climate and caused the floods, then the government abandoned the people and the people lived in hell. I don't know if the Chinese are portrayed as more evil on other platforms of your daily media. A lot of people see Chinese people speaking and reply to Chinese robots, I don't know if it's us being brainwashed or them being brainwashed.

This was a fascinating video that I felt took me into the heart of China’s industrial heart. China really took on the work of industrialising its economy and has done a really great job. I feel the whole country is well on its way to the next level of services based economy and beyond. China will surely succesfully launch space factories to manufacture exotic products that will enhance and extend our biological life, I’m very sure of that. As for China’s seemingly beligerance in the South China Sea, it appears to be a distrust of known, and unknown, cultures lurking there. Frankly, a joint US- China collaboration like the Up ride(?) company Micah visited would conquer the world. China is already so powerful they really don’t need to bully anyone. Lastly, I like the way China has stamped out old, outdated beliefs from its population and actively guards against extremists.

Some altruistic people in the west donate their organs when they die and even more courageously give organs to strangers while they are alive. The "harvesting" of organs is so bad in my opinion just as the treatment of exotic animals for use is some ridiculous traditional medicine makes me sick to my stomach.
