Best bike I own (and I own a lot of bikes). Don't think about this as an expensive bike, it's a 2nd car that you don't have to pay road tax, fossil fuel, parking costs etc. It fits on my tow bar bike rack. I've ridden it up a 18% hill with a kid on the back. Great review.

Thanks for the convenient overview. A drawback of the derailleur is that it’s very close to the ground because of the small wheels. This makes it more vulnerable for instance when you are using bike gutters to go down stairs.

Rectangular thin piece of nylon encased foam with Velcro mounting? "A bit under designed", is a bit understated. More like a kludge or an afterthought.

Great review of the bikes. On the 200 kilo capacity though. That's the gross vehicle weight limit, not the cargo capacity, so it includes the bike's weight. So the cargo/cyclist capacity is 200 minus the weight of the bike.

Thanks for the helpful review. May I ask for advice ? I am currently hesitating between the HSD P9 and the Vektron S10. The S10 is 300 euros more in the shop (3699), but according to spec it is 3kg lighter, a wee bit shorter, and has a performance motion vs active line for the P9. I don't care for the folding that much but the motor and ligntess (I will need to carry it up one flight of stairs) are big plusses. On the other hand, the P9 seems to be a smoother ride with suspension and form factor. Do you have an opinion by any chance ? I could test drive the S10 but sadly not the P9 that is in back order.

I can't answer to all your questions but I can tell you this: the difference between a performance or an active bosch engine is huge. I have used a bike with a performance engine to push a trailer and fully loaded bike and could do even the steepest hills with it. With the active engine, though, I would never dare to use the trailer. Bottom line, the active engine is not suitable for cargo.

Is it easy to change the seat on the GSD? I have a favorite bike seat (Serfas saddle with deep groove for genital protection) and will want to use it on the bike. Is the attachment mechanism compatible with regular seat rails or is it a unique kind of setup?

it's just a standard seatpost clamp, so any standard saddle should be fine

So, I bought a Tern GSD and it is still within it's warranty period. There was a problem with the lights (lights switched off every time I pressed the brakes) and the bike had to be sent back to Tern for repair. 1 month later, the bike is still at Tern. I called the distributor for Tern in Belgium (Hartje) and the guy pretty much asked me why I was calling and what did he expect me to do about my bike being in service. He also said that I shouldn't expect my bike back before some time next year because they are busy and have a lot of bikes to repair. HE WOULD NOT EVEN TELL ME WHEN NEXT YEAR I COULD EXPECT MY BIKE BACK. This is a bike that cost Euro 6500, still in warranty and which we used to use daily fro dropping our kids at school. It should not take 2+ months to repair - especially since apparently what is needed is to replace the internal wiring. I didn't pay this money just to have it sitting in a repair facility in Germany.

How did you get on with sidewinds and the clubhouse thing? Better or worse than an box bike with a passenger cover.

there's plenty of side area for sure. the clubhouse is higher up than a box bike so could affect the handling more, the top section isn't solid - it's a tent, basically - so can deform when the wind hits it. we didn't have any storm-force winds during testing with the clubhouse fort but it wasn't a problem in moderate windy conditions

The way it pedals bothers me. It looks like there is no resistance and they pedals are just spinning. My husband likes the exercise. Can you turn assistance off? Why does everyone look like the wheels are just spinning with their feet on the pedals?

Helmets are not that effective. Safe bike infrastructure is way more important, helmet is a last resort option for the insanity that is cycling in the US. If you are going at low speeds (which cargo bikes are), you are riding upright, and you have safe bike infrastructure, you don't really need a helmet.

@@lighthunter1980 Compare cycling deaths in the netherlands to the US. You'll also notice that people rarely wear helmets there. It turns out that cars are the biggest dangers to cyclist, remove cars and bicycles are just about the safest mode of transportation there is. Up-right, step-through bikes are also way safer than road bikes that put you on an aggressive riding position.
