I clicked thinking this would be super controversial / combative but the amount of logic she provided behind her stand point left me with a high level of respect for her mentality. As a young black man striving to learn new skills to improve my position in this country I appreciate the message ! I’m studying to own a home inspection business .

Eboni, I agree 1000% with every single word you said. We as a people need to stop getting hurt "feelings" over some damn words especially when those words are coming from a real one and and rooted in love and best intentions. I admittedly haven't watched much of Eboni's content (and I need to change that!), but just from what I've watched thus far she's 100% and owns what she says...and I get down with people like that. Great interview and like many have said, a much needed conversation.

when eboni started mentioning statistics I FELT THAT. that’s what drove her point home for me. it’s about mindset. the cards been stacked against us. now we have google and we have social media. the opportunity to think outside the box is THERE. the opportunity to maximize your skill set is THERE. we have opportunities that other generations didn’t. knowledge is democratized bc of the internet, and knowledge is POWER. parents should keep expecting greatness from their kids without putting undue pressure on them. my parents didn’t play around about that and it was the discipline I NEEDED. i know my talented a$$ can’t work certain minimum wage jobs bc i care *more* about maximizing my skill set. i know there are systemic issues we’re still dealing w as a community, but it shouldn’t be an excuse for community-wide complacency.

People need to understand that your feelings are YOUR responsibility. The second we accept this to be true is the second we end so much suffering. We can be empathetic and understanding and kind...and STILL hurt someone's feelings. When we heal as a community, we won't be so susceptible to hurt feelings. @@pobj6723 the idea that you believe that sexual value and life value are equal speaks to the lack of education she pointed out using factual statistics. If saying “oh she’s not sexually attractive” makes you feel better about making 1/8 of what she makes, fine. But that doesn’t change the fact that you focus on the superficial because she has what men like you wish they had, which is money and status 😂😂😂. And you trying to brainwash women to equating the two will not be sustainable when the facts come into play.

We get our feelings hurt everyday by the people who want us to fail and stay at the bottom. Eboni wants us to not be complacent, I would rather hear and be hurt by the truth if it means I will reach MY highest skill set in life. Some people need a gentler approach and some just need it straight no chaser. Whatever resonates with you to reach your highest skill set in life (I'm with Eboni).

I agree with DJ Envy’s sentiment. The snippet was probably taken out of context but like he said, people were offended by it. And to all the people saying they agree with her, ownership doesn’t relieve you from mediocrity. It’s an internal thing. Mrs. Vanzant’s whole point was about searching inside. At the end of your life, what would have mattered most; your salary and material possessions or your character? All of our salaries, small or large, can be gone tomorrow. That doesn’t mean be complacent. It means remember what’s most important! I would say both sides made for a balanced conversation but Eboni seemed defensive most of the time. Like the other co-host said, “she didn’t stand 10 toes down”. She used the statistics that blacks died at a disproportionate rate to other groups during COVID because of our exposure as essential workers as a way to support her point but it just seemed like she was moving the goal post. None of that had anything to do with the broader narrative of her interview with Mrs. Vanzant. Like DJ Envy said, whether you meant to or not….you did offend the backbone of the US economy. Not Lawyers, doctors and accountants, but average workers, small businesses and blue collar workers, militia workers make it possible for her to “advocate” as she claimed. I was personally offended by the narrative notwithstanding how sensational it was.

I agree 100% with what she is saying. I say this all the time, the need for skills & certifications is essential. The only problem I have, it is assumed that Black Americans are okay with kids getting c’s & d’s in school; then, going to college and not excelling. Absolutely no way have I ever been okay with that, and it’s in poor taste, to think that most of us are okay with it. Life is like a circle: church, family, community, and education. All facets are important and must be aligned. When one is off, it affects the other. Not saying, there won’t be much success, but it’ll be harder to attain. For instance, Eboni comes from a single parent household; yet, her family life didn’t stop her from achieving anything. The biggest attainment out of the four is education. There won’t be much skill set without it. Not only just education, but people need to UNDERSTAND the importance of it, and understand WHY it’s needed or conceptualism. It’s like learning math. It would be hard to learn the different lessons of math, without learning the concepts first. Some people may not know the importance of understanding why skill sets are needed.

Eboni is on point 100%. Everyone has to enter somewhere in the workforce, however, you shouldn't end you work life in the same place you started. There are 24hrs. in a day, 8hrs. working, 8hrs. sleeping what about the other 8hrs.? What are you doing to excel? The excuse everyone wants to use is, "they can't afford to get educated in other skillsets". That's BS. There are platforms now where you can learn skills without spending $50k for a degree. Udemy, Skillshare, Coursera, KZbin, and dozens of other inexpensive eLearning platforms where you can learn anything from coding, mechanics, music theory, and thousands of other skills. Some of us get it, because didn't want to be "mediocre" so we've been through that journey to stop driving the bus, and become a career professional without having tens of thousands of dollars for degrees. Keep spreading that message. People get triggered because they know they're not doing everything they could be doing to move up. So, instead of addressing it and doing the work they feel better when they point fingers finding fault in others who are doing better than themselves. Haters. ❤

This is the problem with Black America we want to be pacified into greatness. When in actuality obtaining the excellence that Eboni is speaking to that we want to see happen collectively takes fucking GRIT. To exercise that muscle you have to put your feelings aside and, take accountability and sit in the conviction that we can do better in order to move from mediocracy into our true highest individual potential. Then construct a plan to execute. If you have any inkling about wealth you know that high earning skill sets and ownership is apart of the blueprint. All Eboni did was give us the medicine without the candy. It was a perspective I needed to hear for sure.

I used to work as a Steel Fabricator in West Point, MS making $9.50 an hour with a high school education. I am now a Data Scientist with an MBA making almost six times that amount. I think what should have been said: Do what you are passionate about and satisfied with. If you think you are worth more, then go get it. If you are satisfied with "driving a bus" so, be it. Love shouldn't be based on how much money you make; it should be based who that person is. Nothing against Eboni, sometimes words are better spoken inside your head. That comment should have been an inside the head conversation. Words are powerful, and I didn't have someone convince me to want more in my life. I had to want it myself.

She *LIED* about the dictionary definition of *mediocre/mediocrity* Here is what the Merriam-Webster says: Did you know? People interested in words always point out that mediocrity doesn't mean quite what its main root would indicate: Why doesn't it describe something that's right in the middle of the pack, exactly what you would expect? Instead the words mediocrity and mediocre always suggest disappointment. A mediocre play is one you wish you hadn't wasted an evening on, and the mediocre actor in it should probably find another profession. A person can even be called a mediocrity, though it isn't very nice and you'd never do it to his face.

What Envy said was powerful. A lot of black people are starting from such a place of disadvantage that the best thing they can do is work their asses off so that they can pass the baton to their children; so their children actually get a fair shot. We grow by operating as a community, not just thinking about what is best for us as individuals and optimizing our individual potential. Just like on a basketball team, it's not for everyone to score. Sometimes you need to set a screen. You won't be presenting yourself in the best light individually, but if you really care about what's best for the collective, you'll do it.
