Ebony alternative for guitar building from Thermalwood Canada

I mentioned in the video that I had never worked with maple before except for the bridge patch of my 2nd guitar. Well, I completely forgot about the flame maple binding of my first guitar and the flame maple sides of my carved mandolin build! So, I can say that I absolutely did not notice any medicinal scent working with those, so the smell must be from some part of the process they used to thermally modify the wood. Just wanted to clear that up.

Very cool Chris, I had just ordered 2 of those before seeing your vid. On your Bubinga build You are going to be Amazed at the tone of that wood, I had some bubinga in my shop from at least 20yrs ago when I was building custom furniture. I used the bubinga for the 2 parlor guitars I built for my Sons, Its an Amazing tonewood but it does have alot of natural resins so I would highly recommend wiping down with mineral spirits wherever you are gluing something too it. Got it. They only sent me the fingerboard and that‘s it. So I‘m not partnered or in a deal with them or anything. But, please mention me anyway! I do have a question about the royal blackwood. Does it smell like wood when you cut it?

@@CMRWoodworks Hey Chris sorry I didn’t see your question. No the royal blackwood has no smell (at least to me). That is kinda weird that composite wood has a medicinal smell ? I have never heard of anything like that in my 40+yrs of woodworking.

Hi! Thanks for snother nice video. A spmehow tangential comment: I know some people like ebony for the color and such, but i have found that one can make pretty nice sounding bridges with pau ferru at a fraction of the cost.

I’m not sure of the price as they sent this one to me free of charge to try out. I think they have to be contacted through their website for purchase. I think they are working on a way to make online ordering an option, but I haven’t seen that yet. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help regarding this!
