Man, I can watch this over and over again. You really demystified this process for me. I'm a lifelong guitar player and recently got into woodworking. This could make my two worlds come together. Fantastic job!

Same here, man! Lifelong musician, so when I got into woodworking, I knew I wanted to try making instruments at some point. Took me 7 years to finally jump in and make my first guitar, an acoustic. Wish I would’ve jumped in much earlier. I appreciate the view and the comment. Thanks for watching!

I bought the routing templates from a luthier supply house. I’ve made my own molds for acoustic guitars, but for the tele, I really wanted to make sure it looked just like a Tele, so I ended up just buying the templates, which were made on a cnc.

If you forget the truss rod and you already have glued the fingerboard onto the neck...it's no big deal...the truss channel and the truss rod are square and parallel allowing you to slide it back into the neck...am i missing something here that would prevent you from do that.

Thanks for watching! The stain is by a company called TransTint. I believe the color I used is called Honey Amber. I diluted it in water and applied it with a shop towel.

Hello! May I ask two questions? What kind of drill bit is it that you have used to thicken out the sidewalls on the drill press and what kind of finish did you apply 17 times 😊? Thanks and great work - by the way!!!
@CMRWoodworks
@CMRWoodworks Ай бұрын
Thanks! The attachment for the drill press that I used to thin down the sides is called a Safe-T Planer. For the finish, I thinned down some Tru Oil with mineral spirits and applied that 18 times. Took a while!

Do you buy a pattern?
@CMRWoodworks
@CMRWoodworks Ай бұрын
Yes. The thing I was using to cut the frets has a pin that you slide in and out which aligns with some slots on a template. So you just lock it down, cut the fret, the slide the pin out, slide the fretboard down until the pin locks into the next slot and then just keep going.

I appreciate it man! I didn’t buy everything all at once and did a lot of research before each part so it ended up taking me 6 months. I think that if I had everything I needed and knew what I was doing at each step, I can easily build one in a couple of months (or less since a Tele is about as basic as you can get). Good luck!

Hint: forget about the 2mm spacing.. you will have to custom fit it later anyway.. so just cut it the same outline as the mold (tou'll be surprised just how well it will fit already), and theb just sand it to fit . Saves lots of time because the contour is going to be closer than you think ..
@CMRWoodworks

Great work.. but was that a template? I thought it was built from scratch..
@CMRWoodworks
@CMRWoodworks Ай бұрын
The scratch part is the wooden parts of the guitar not being made out of anything premade. A lot of people make the body, but then buy a premade neck or something like that, for example. The template to me is kinda like a bundt pan or a cupcake pan or something. Someone can make a cake or cupcakes from scratch and you wouldn’t discount them for using a bundt pan to shape a cake or a cupcake tin to shape the batter into a cupcake shape. At least that’s how I see it. When I started looking into building electric guitars, I found that templates are just a way of life for most electric guitar makers, even pros. Same for acoustic guitars. I make them as well and you have to use a mold to keep the bent shape of the sides. I have used a premade mold and I have also built my own, but the guitars I make with them both are still all considered handmade guitars built from scratch in my mind. I appreciate your viewpoint, however, and I’m glad you left a comment. Thanks for watching!

Regarding the solder, not sure what you used but I find the leaded stuff flows much better than the lead free. I use 60/40 leaded and do everything with a cheap old 30 watt iron. Guitars sounds and looks good bud, looking forward to the next one. Cheers
