I actually find their shield strength to be perfect. It goes down pretty easily with Plasma weapons, as it should, but you'd be surprised how much gunfire a basic Elite can tank from a weapon like the Battle Rifle on higher difficulties. It's not so much that you can't use those weapons, but it does make those quick pops with a Plasma weapon followed by a shot to the head super satisfying.

@Texel76 They’re the exact same, both have 320 Shield and 180 Health on normal, 370 and 250 on Legendary. Halo 4 had Zealots with the Same Vitality as Reach Officers and Halo 2 had Spec Ops with the same Vitality as Majors. Spec Ops could have a different shield material that makes them more resistant to Melee, but those can’t be checked yet.

7:10 i actually think of this as one of the best improvements to the elite AI in infinite's campaign, it adds a level of stealth advantage that wasn't there before

Personally, I think the downsides you pointed out are fine. Energy weapons are supposed to tear through shielding, and it held up well against ballistic weapons. Not having their shield up when out of combat add realism. Like why waste their armor's energy to constantly sustain their shield when it may run out when they need it? It not a gameplay feature, but make sense in-universe. Also, it makes ambushing them *feel* like an ambush. In previous games, it is a little unsatisfying whenever you snuck up on an Elite, Snipe his head...only for him to just turn around and start shooting back. The undisciplined nature of the Mercenaries also make sense, these aren't the same Elites who serve the Covenant or their homeworld's army and are...well, Mercenaries. They would be more prone to violence, impatient, and lack discipline.

Mercenaries or at least private contractors are generally some of the most disciplined individuals you can find. Most of them are seasoned combat veterans and a large portion of them are spec ops. So they are very capable and highly valuable. In Halo, most of these Elites are probably veterans of the Human-Covenant War and have many combat deployments under their belt. I doubt they are as undisciplined as you say

While the armor gathered inspiration from Reach, I think the overall design is more heavily inspired by Halo 2 Anniversary, and I love it. A rather interesting point is the energy shield being off when there's no enemies nearby, I mean, it makes a lot of sense and it is really interesting to see this piece of realism in there, also it makes you try to sneak on them and take them down before going full monke in a frontal attack, and the fact that it works that way instead of them just screaming and taking cover again makes it more satisfying in my opinion. Just a final thought, yes... it is absolutely amazing to have proper elites back into the series

I love infinite elites! and I wonder if there's a DLC infinite campaign where we fight with arbiter and good elites I would love them to have their halo 3 armor and not the 5th one. minors look like the combat armor seen in 3's campaign majors will look like the commando armor seen in 3's elite armor customization spec ops elites will look like the Assult armor as well seen in 3's campaign zealot elites will maybe look like the ascetic armor I guess and hope to god we get to see not just arbiter and the shipmaster as well! I know it may or may not happen but it's just a what if moment

they had to pick between making the elites reminiscent of the originals (which was a huge drive in the art direction of infinite) or have them all variations of red I prefer the former - as much as the latter would tie them into the banished aesthetic more thats what the red elites/officers now convey, elites have their own culture parts of which was allowed in the covenant, same with the banished I see what you're saying, but their final decision makes more sense to me. Halo 4 and 5 art direction was abysmal, doing it this way is the only one that made sense ultimately besides, overuse of red and black is an artistic sin

@@rambo-cambo3581 I also thought the Officers were the "red banished" elites . But sadly they're not. Their red is a whole different shade of red then the actual red of the banished seen in Infinite. It's literally just an elite rank . I agree with the commenter , I wish the banished in this game looked banished . I get what you're saying about design but I disagree , I think they could've made it work . I just literally doesn't make any sense why banished elites and brutes are blue , purple, yellow and white. Like no sense at all. If they had to do Banished vs Covenant , how would that look ? It would look like the Covenant fighting itself. They should've gone with the entire red/black design to stay true to the lore.

@@FrostbiteDigitalpart of the complaints with the other 343 games was how hard it was to distinguish between enemy ranks due to the color pallet(especially with forerunners) I think if they were all banished colors it would again be very difficult upon first glance to tell which elite is which rank. The reason that works in halo wars 2 is because you don’t fight elites individually with different ranks at a first person perspective. The top down nature of halo wars 2 means multiple types of enemies can be the same color

8:13 My only complaint about their aesthetic is that you can see where they share a similarity with Spartan chest rig, probably from shared assist from development. My honest opinion is that they should be more rounded with a different choice in shape and color of the lights. Unless there is lore that it’s a Elite’s armor made by banish fabricators/manufacturer then I can see that this is some of the brute’s aesthetic fitting in as they are scavengers and raiders. Otherwise (in lore) they should mostly have covenants era armor. Still a hella lot better then 4 and 5

I would say that these are among my favorite Elites of the series both in gameplay and designs. Though I personally would've love to see a little more of the Elite classes and armor designs like Rangers, Zealot, Commando, Ascetic, Honor Guard, etc. And this is just a personal nitpick, but I would've like to see a more Banished look to the ranks like having some hints of gray like in Halo Wars 2 and their concept art pieces.

Awesome stuff! I love that the elites have returned to the badass Noble, honorable, and agile warriors they've been in the past! I love em! They remind me halo 2's elites in combat and dialogue! Also, 3:28 "SUP" That elite Ultra just chillin! 😆👍🏻 Love the ai in infinite! Them activating the shields only when in combat is interesting. I saw all the other enemies do that too. It's cool cause you can get a sneaky one shot kill from far away sometimes! I love when the elites get angry then cloak and pull their sword out! Only the elites do that and it's a cool and fitting little feature very true to the lore of elites and their combat characteristics!

I know Halo Infinite has gotten a lot of heat from the community and deservedly so in some aspects, but 343 definitely gave their best effort thus far towards a campaign with Infinite. The Elites are such a good example because they feel much more close to how they originally were in Bungie’s games. Cunning and agile warriors who have a much different presence on the battlefield from the Brutes they fight alongside with. So much better art style wise and gameplay wise from their 4 and 5 counterparts.

Also an interesting note about Elites using human weaponry in Infinite, from a story / lore perspective you can tell that they only do it out of necessity. During the era of the Covenant, Elites would never even consider touching a human weapon, but in Halo Infinite I had an Elite scoff at me "I will use this if I must." as he picked up a human-made more powerful weapon. Just thought it was interesting that their hatred for human weapons is still on display

Infinite was definitely refreshing seeing the old designs come back. Gameplay wise it is nice that elites are now acting like elites again since the brutes are back to be well you know brutes. Really bummed that the brute armor still breaks as you're attacking them and it doesn't stay on but overall I think they look great. Feel like they're lacking just a little bit though compared to the Halo wars 2 brutes that look like they are from Mordor.

Another trait i noticed in infinite was elites tend to stay back if they can, especially with brutes pushing forward. As well, they tend to have their heads pitched slightly down, causing the long ovular helmets to look like colored eggs in the distance. Help with silohetts but also looks funny

Honestly, as a great fan of 'original halo' (Halo CE & 2) and getting progressively more cynical of each instalment since, Halo Infinite's strange and delightful 'return to the roots' has significantly sold me on the game. By Halo 5, stuff was so far redesigned that I just couldn't feel the 'Halo' in it, it just felt like a spin-off title and my subconscious just dismissed it as cannon. But Halo Infinite has really subverted by low expectations and at least as far as visual design is concerned (and that is one of the things that drew my into the early Halos), it probably ranks 3rd in my favourite Halo's as far as 'Covenant' (err... Banished) species designs are concerned. I hate the look of the Brutes though, they just look like weird humans, but Elites, Jackals and Grunts have really had a glow-up on design. I genuinely love being ably to 'love' a design from the franchise again which really ended for me with Halo 3's decision to screw the Grunts over (and it was all down hill from there). These guys actually feel 'elite', in their elegant yet powerful stance and agile movements. I also strangely love that weird thing of them patrolling without their shields as it makes them feel 'real' like they're just soldiers out on their job, not just game objects to be neutralised (because that thing would use power non-stop, and a patrol might be on duty for day with no action). Its just a really nice attention to detail and realism and a fun exploit that changes up combat. Overall, I think they deserve the praise.

The only thing I found a little odd is when you said the lower ranking elites are don't have much shield strength compared to other games , for me at least it was the exact opposite. Correct me if I'm wrong these are the strongest sheilds elite minors and majors had have so far if you don't use plasma, I mean the minor sheilds can survive a sniper headshot on normal and majors take three melees to break there Shields on just normal and that's the same amount of melees an ultras sheilds on legendary in Halo reach take, but the problem I have is with the higher ranks there sheilds have a very little difference in strength compared to the lower ranks like an infinite legendary difficulty warlords sheilds taking the same amount of melees to break as a normal difficulty major is ridiculous. Good video tho 👍

When you talk about classic you mean halo reach, right? because in no way those are the classic halo 2 and halo 3 elites, they lack their amphibian characteristics and their humps, its feet are not divided into two hoof toes, their eyes are too centered , the same with the jackals, when everyone says they went back to their iconic design they mean that they now look like the jackals from halo reach and halo 3, not the ones from combat evolved.

I think that they are the best elites yet! It was a great comeback after Halo 4/5. Also just thought I would point out that you made one mistake. The red elites are enforcers not officers LOL!

I wish that the elite warlords have a small time limit of being invincible when their shields get low enough, like the brute chieftains from halo 3 instead of going cloak. It would make both the ultras and warlords work differently.

Finally someone addresses the shield effect. I always thought the permanent flared up shields are quite intrusive, hiding most of the model's textures and details. Plus it gives a similar detached from the background look like the MP player outlines. Aside from that, the rest of their design is absolutely perfect.
